How Old Are You?

The US has various different "legal" ages. Sex, voting, smoking, driving, drinking... It can get confusing sometimes.

To post at Lit, though, or to have sex in a Lit story, you must be 18 or older.

Looks like I get the designation.......

Dirty "old" man........51

I remain, (suddenly old)

As WH mentioned in his post, I turned 75 in September. My wife, who has posted some stories, will be 75 next month. Altho she reads over my sholder, she very rarely posts to the boards.

She has reverted from teacher(retired) to student at one of the local Jr. Collages. To; as she says; keep the grey cells active.

Well, of all those who have commented so far, it looks as though The_Old_Man and his wife are the only ones older than me. I'm seventy two, closing on seventy three and having a ball. Like a few others, I had guessed the average would have been a bit higher - closer to mid-forties, I guess.

I'll raise the average a little for the men. 60 next birthday, but who's counting? Life is for living, whatever the age.

UK Legal is sixteen.

For some strange reason I thought US legal was unanimously 18?

I'm 20... ooh now theres a thought, did I have illegal sex when I was in the US two years ago? *vbeg*
It isn't that difficult to have illegal sex in parts of the U.S., depending on the type of sex you participate in.

In some areas, same sex coupling is illegal, as is oral sex and sodomy. Yes, it is sad. Some laws are still on the books in smaller municipalities just because nobody thought to have them taken off.

Yes, many of us are living in sin, and loving it!

That is why I advocate that all laws have a five year expiration date on them. If the law-making bodies don't repass them, then they fall off the books and are no longer laws by default.

Not only would this help get rid of rediculous laws, but it would keep our congresspersons busy enough they might not have time to think up so many ways to screw up our lives. A win-win situation.

You mean there's another way of living???

Seriously, I heard that in Minnesota, a man can get arrested for trying to kiss his wife after he has eaten fish and onions...

I think it's kinda silly to have different laws in different states. If USA is one country, then it should have the same laws everywhere. That would make it much easier for its citizens to remember them, too...

(Maybe that's why the crime rate is so high over there? People don't MEAN to break the law, they just got confused and thought they were in another state?)

Though I shouldn't come off so high and mighty about this. Sweden used to have the exact same problem. The country was divided into counties, and each county had its own set of laws. But then, the clever king Magnus Eriksson changed all that, by making it so that the entire country had to obey the same laws. This was in 1200...something, something.

Don't worry, you'll get there.;)

It must be my age damnit!

40 is fading in the rearview mirror, but I haven't seen the street signs for 50 yet. Depends on who you talk to, the kids see me as a ripe old age to shoot for and most others wonder if I'll ever actually catch up to my age. 41 seemed so old just a few years ago but it seems awful young now damnit!

I meant to point out earlier but forgot to do it, that when addressing many of you folks, I would frequently start out, "You kids, etc....." There are one or two disadvantages to aging, I guess.

Real mature, Charm_brights. I did not "troll" Just. I asked him what age was "UK legal". Sheesh.

Wow. I don't really know what I was expecting, but I thought we'd definitely be older than this. From the responses here, the average age of the board is 28 y/o.

Questions have to occur: Am I the youngest on the board (19 in August) and who is the oldest?

The Earl

I guess I will have to speak up and raise the average.
I am 45

I am so looking forward to being an old lady because I am determined to be as eccentric as my addled imagination will allow me to be!

I'm going to wear a big brimmed hat with plastic cherries stuck to it, I'm going to go round talking to everyone about anything and I am going to be one of those people who is "Aunty" to every kid in the neighbourhood. I might even keep a snake or a rat or some other strange creature.

I am going to be a crazy OAP!

OH great! I already have the snake! I had a rat but I was just rat sitting for a friend.

Suddenly I'm feeling much older

Every since I was 19 I've had the nickname "Mom". In college there was even a complicated and twisted pusdeo family tree. Currently I have about 30 pusdeo children to go along with my one real teen between the ages of 12 and 21 (will be 22 this month) whom often spend the night, come for parties, call for advice etc.

Just recently they had a surprized BD party for me Friday the 3ed, and I finally got rid of the last guest bye Sunday the 5th...

But it's lovely, really, we go camping and things as a group and I think it's what keeps me young, a refusal to grow "old". My grandmother when she was in her late 50's would go white water rafting, and that's the kind of life I aspire to.

The kind where age brings freedom not from responsiablity, but from needed to bow to convention.

Hanging out with younger people does keep one young. My grandmother is close to 80, but she's as full of life as a 50-year-old. Her sister is about 15 years younger than her, but acts like she was in her late 80'ies.

My grandmother hang out with her daughter and her grandchildren daily, her sister sits isolated in her apartment.

Nuff said.

WIWYA - When I Was Your Age...

...which I - gasp! - has caught myself saying a couple of times.

To me time is liquid. It greatly annoys some folks when I say "The other day" and they are like "That was ten years ago!" And I"m like "Ya, that's the other day. . . It's not THIS day."

I never say "When I was younger." Usually I tell just tell the story.

And the only times I compare Now with Then is when I say things like "When I moved to Anchorage, Muldoon was a two lane road." and "They built a bank over my fave buleberry picking spot." For some of these kids the way it is now is the way it's always been.

Frist: Greymouse, Wizards was a kick ass movie, one of my personal faves!

Ha, I'm glad I'm not the only person who knows what that's from. The sad thing is, I grew up watching that movie and only later came to realize things like 1) How big Eleanor's boobs are 2) How transparent her outfit is 3) How chronic her case of THO (titty hard-on) seems to be.

You know, maybe if my parents had been more attentive to the things I was watching when I was seven, I wouldn't be frequenting porn sites now . . . hmm . . . :)

too true

ROFLMAO....

and what about "petticoat junction"... how did any adults watch that with a straight face?

and people look horrified when i tell them we don't watch tv... go figure...

and yes, this is relevant to the thread... a reference to "Petticoat Junction" indicates my age :D

:rose:

omg i remember Petticoat Junction!
and Green Acres, and Noddy and Big Ears and Gollywog. darn, where's that hole gone when i need it? ;)

Hey! i know where Green Acres is! If i remember the show right, anyway. i was pretty little when they quit airing the reruns. ;)

i'm 25 as of the beginning of the month and looking forward to 45-ish. The kids should be out of the house by then, and i can sell it, buy an RV, and GO! i suppose the younguns might be able to tag along every once in a while, though. Just to be nice. Maybe. (Just kidding, folks. i love my kids and would always let them come along. As long as they brought their own RV/tent/whatever and fed themselves.)
