How Old Are You?

When I first started reading the replies on this thread, I was feeling every one of my 42 years. But now I feel better. I'm not the oldest replying!
I really do feel old, however. Shoot....I just vaguely recall my surprise 30th birthday party. And my twins will be 17 in 2 days. Boo hoo.
Oh...I, too, was surprised to find that The Earl is so young!

And you 'furriners'...don't try to understand the way we do things here in the US...you'll just go crazy. WE don't even understand us!

i imagine that the youngest wouldn't admit it, for fear of being kicked out.

My God, you're nineteen? They allow children on here! I, in contrast, turned twenty (20) last week.

I probably shouldn't have said that. Now, nobody will talk to me.

Older than dirt

Looks like I'm one of the very old around here: according to the Svenskaflicka rule I have been growing older for 37 years now. And I actually feel like I'm still developing, but that may be Alzheimer creating that impression ;)

I felt REALLY old the other day, when I had to explain to a teenager what "Ghostbuster" was...

Kids these days! They don't know ANYTHING!

Being a musician, it really bothers me to have kids not know who the Beatles were.

And, have you seen Jay Leno's Jaywalking segments?
If not, he goes to certain areas and asks people questions about our history.

Yes, I am sure they cut out the questions that people answer correctly, but even at that, the people that can't answer the basic questions of our American history is upsetting. And, when he goes to colleges, it's unbelievable how little the students know!

I just wonder what would happen if they were asked questions on world history!

Well, I for one, will not be talking to you, MathGirl. And it has nothing to do with your age. It is your name. Oh dear god....that word....*shiver*, *shudder*.....MATH! Ooohhh...I can't believe I actually typed that despised word.

Blue

(just kidding, hon. I'd talk to you, with "math" in your name or not. But I really don't like math! Well, I guess I might like it....if I could understand it. lol)

Don't get me started on those "Jaywalking" segments. Grrrr....how can anyone be so STUPID? Yeah, I know....they probably do cut out all the ones who answer correctly, but dang...I'm ashamed of those who can't answer such simple questions as when was the War of 1812, who was the first president of the U.S., etc. I know that it wouldn't be funny if they didn't do it that way, but if I was one of those idiots, I can't imagine I'd be so desperate to be on t.v. that I'd let it be broadcast like that. I'm not tremendously intelligent, but dang....ok....I'll shut up now.

I think those were actually a couple of the questions, or at least similar. How can anyone not know when the war of 1812 was? I think another was when was the civil war fought? One guy said 1960s! Maybe he thought the civil war had something to do with civil rights. Still, a college student should know this answer, hands down.

I agree it is suppose to be funny, and it is, but you can't help but be ashamed for these college kids who are going to be taking over our country some day. Something tells me I should hope I am dead and gone by then.

When I was in senior high school (something like year 12), we had a history class, and this little blonde asked our teacher between what years the second world war took place... She was 18. As if that wasn't sad enough, our teacher actually gave her a 5 in history, which was the highest grade you could get back then.
No wonder our entire Parliament consists of idiots...

Oh, so it's not just the U.S., then. But, somehow that doesn't make me feel any better.

DVS and BD - Any others too, I guess

Ever wonder why much of our first two years in college are devoted to a rehash of stuff we were supposed to have learned in high school. Or why we don't seem to get it the second time around either?
Sadly, much of the little I know about writing, I have acquired since I started posting stories here at Lit. Any who doubt that may take a look at some of my early posts. I have tried but have a weak stomach for stupid mistakes!

When I went to senior high (10th class), we had a test the first day in school, to see how much we had learned in our previous schools. The day after, the teacher handed them back to us, and said "OK, we're gonna start by repeating a little of what you have already learned" - and then he started teaching us the stuff I had learned from class 7...
And some people STILL didn't get it. How can you be polite to 17-year-old, who asks you what the... a verb is?

at a preschool i used to volunteer in, one of the teachers held up a pic of martin luther king (sp?) and asked if the kids knew who he was. one little girl offered "OJ Simpson"

Dear Earl,

There is one giveaway to your age, dear. It's that awful avathingie of yours. If that was the only clue, I'd think you were about twelve.

Oh, my God. What then does my Avatar say about my age?

Age, Smage

Dear DVS,

Your avacodo says nothing about your age. It merely shows that you know the difference between cute and gross.

Diane, Still the Judgemental

Mathgirl: Yeah, I'm changing my av as soon as I can find a decent idea. I just had that one to be funny for people who know their Red Dwarf.

I am 18 btw. 19 in August would make me 18 atm.

Svens: Ghostbuster? What's a ghostbuster? :D

Earl,
Yes, ANYTHING. And hurry.
My God, even I know about Ghostbusters. Dan Adroyd, John Candy, and the old SNL crew.

Well, i know i'm not the youngest by far on the BB after all. I'll be 25 next Wednesday. Heck, I'm looking forward to aging gracefully... if my gramma, aunts, and mom are any indication! :)

What's funny is I heard a country song called "19-somethin' " on the radio and realized most of the (younger) people that I work with don't remember the Rubik's Cube or Dukes of Hazard... *chuckles*

eh well...

WOW! A big oops!:D

it's just the sig line that is annoying

Earl-

Your AV doesn't bother me at all... it's just the long sig that is a bit tiresome.

Well, it bothers me, but not because of the picture. Because of how it must feel. Ouch! It's a man thing. You have to be there.
