Dixiecrat is also used as a term for the southern democrats that migrated to the GOP. Yes it was a party in 1948 - that is not the only way the term is used historically, in the media or in common vernacular.

I don't believe I have ever seen the term used unless it referred specifically to the breakaway Dems in 1948. "Southern Democrats" was widely used, but even that term is not as common as it was forty years ago. For instance, were Carter and Clinton referred to as "Southern Democrats?"

I absolutely defy anybody to find a riot anywhere in the USA, with arson and violence and vandalism, that is started by people on the right in protest of left wing speakers, etc.

I'm not a yank and make no claim to any in depth knowledge of it's history, but it seems to me that there were a few riots lead by the "right" through the 60's when those pesky afro Americans (is that the current PC description) wanted to peacefully sit in buses. That involved all of the above including murder.

None of you are ever going to change the others views and yet you expend a huge amount of time on Inanities. I'd encourage this myself, time you spend here is wasted, but you'd probably have more fun commenting on Stormfront or Breitbart.

Hey, gotta do something in the middle of the night when ER gets quiet. Coffee alone doesn't do it. Stormfront is a bit more of a challenge tho. They moderate the posts for real and it's hard to get posts thru when you have a username like Tzang. They get worked up pretty easily tho. Try it, it's fun.

I see and hear it used quite frequently. Especially in relation to the immigration of the racist Democrats in the south to the republican party when JFK accepted and championed civil rights.

Both Clinton and Carter were after JFK. The transition had already occurred.

Strom Thurmond switched parties because the Democrats weren't racist enough for him anymore...in 1964.
