how to resize pics

i want to do an amateur pic thread but the pics from my camera are too big....does anyone know how to resize them to fit on LIT?

for attachments, I just set the larger dimension to 600 pixels and quality/compression to medium. I use 600 for the larger dimension because while Lit will accept a 600x800 image as an attachment, it will not accept the same image in 800x600 orientation.
