I’m leaving

the site should just get rid of the Interracial and Nonconsent categories, and aside from the fact that this is obviously never going to happen, it's a terrible idea

💯

Feel like existence isn't the problem but the only a toe dip solution nature of the how its handled.

Interracial is home to both the fetishists and individuals seeking characters more like themselves/representation in erotic fiction. These are very divergent wants and I'm not suggesting the fetishist have less valid reasons for wanting what they want but their interest often are the antithesis of what their category roommates are dying to see (more honest, inclusive representation in art and culture)

But suggesting a split is flawed as you further shrink an already smallish category.

So friendly reminders of the benefits for both readers and authors of diligent use of significant and specific tagging could help but it's still up to the author, many don't want to bother or claim proper tagging ruins the suspense/surprise. ( properly done, I disagree.) And the site doesn't have the manpower to police tagging and even if they did it's an inefficient use of resources. Lean more teaching to fish versus handing out fish.

All valid thinking so solutions aren't easy and the desire and payoff might be lacking.

Non-con is hiding having dessert for breakfast. That Chocolate Explosion "whole grain" muffin you're frequently noshing on is sugar ladened cake in sheep's clothing.

There is an appetite for the subject (and its audience) but the swirling political and social winds make firm evidence of support fraught with possible risk and business disruption. Most of us see the game being played and the history of changing content guidelines and uneven enforcement of the guidelines. (legitimate concerns)

Some handle the "such is life" nature of this far better than others.

You tag well, hold yourself up to a standard, and recognize while the uneveness of the rules is problematic, whole sale liquidation of categories as a solution is likely worse (and a gateway to artistic creativity stifling in other areas of the site.)

These issues are persistent because they are complicated and they are cyclical because there will always be authors who creative motivation is fueled by pushing past the boundaries and guidelines.

Authors, readers, guidelines, and content reviewers all have a part in this terrible, terrible play.

I don't agree with that at all. If people are expressing a viewpoint you disagree with, it's fair to speak out against it. It may seem like shouting against the wind sometimes, but the reality is there are probably some people who don't have their minds made up, and if you let the other side have its say without having your own say then you give up the field of ideological battle to them. This forum, over the years, has gotten more and more kink-judgmental, a trend I deplore, and as long as people keep trying to move things in that direction, I'm going to speak out against it. Both Emily and Tilan have expressed the view, in the last couple of days, that the site should just get rid of the Interracial and Nonconsent categories, and aside from the fact that this is obviously never going to happen, it's a terrible idea. I'm going to say so as long as some people advocate the idea.

And to be clear, I don't irritate myself by engaging in a debate, and I don't really care if others "look at me with any sort of animosity on the basis of my opinion," because if they do, that speaks poorly for them and it's not my problem.
It's interesting that people make comparison between the themes of murder and rape, simply because they are both despicable crimes, as justification for writing a story depicting rape as no worse than murder. The typical Miss Marple 'found dead in the cloisters with a mortal axe wound' are invariably retrospective. The thrill and whole point of such stories is the chess game of hunting for clues, while the actual butchering is usually ignored.

When it comes to rape, there is seldom an interest in solving the crime but more in the salacious details of the setting, the motivation, the how and when, as if we needed to understand the mindset of a rapist and how the foolish woman obviously provoked him. Sexually graphic scenes of violence remain in the Director's Cut but are then edited for 'family viewing', but never omitted. We've all seen tv rape entertainment where the threadbare NY cop fights valiantly for justice, but stresses 'da jury ain't gonna believe a broad who wuz drunk cuz, lets face it, she had it comin.' We need look no further than last night's CNN's town hall charade letting Trump rubbish the verdict of the jury.

To compare murder and rape in film or writing, is apples and oranges: one appeals to the logic of Holmes, the other offers titillation.

I don't think rape stories should be banned because of free speech. Rape is too often a taboo subject that shames victims into silence, but there's a world of difference between Miss Marple and the lush on 15th Avenue. Sure, let the authors publish but let them be judged for their words.

I'm leaving on a jet plane
Don't know when I'll be back again
Oh babe, I hate to go
But I'm getting a kick out of letting everybody know about it.
This old airport's got me down, it's no earthly good to me
And I'm stuck here on the ground as cold and drunk as I can be.
You can't jump a jet plane like you can a freight train
So, I'd best be on my way in the early morning rain.

Here’s a big secret. Satire is actually spelled satyr. I know, right?

Em
Careful - a satyr is usually associated with bestiality and might see you banned rather than waving your embroidered hankerchief from the train window, your lover chewing manfully at his lip to fight back the tears of his desperate looming solitude, wandering like a ghost through the corridors of the AH for ever, bereft of solace and the comfort of your heaving bosoms.

I got my [faux] beastiality approved by Laurel, so 👅

I have had enough. I have had it up to here. This place has changed, or maybe it was never what I thought it was. Anyway there is a limit to how much any sane person can take and I’m way past it.

What is it that I object to? What is it that the people who claim to run this site know is a cancer eating away at the heart of the community, but refuse to act on?

Let me tell you.

It’s attention whores posting threads saying that they are leaving and why. I mean what’s up with that FFS?

I’ve had my fill. I’m out of here. Gone. Packing my bags and hitting the road. Don’t try to stop me, my mind is made up. No really it is. I can’t take just one more whiny, melodramatic leaving thread. Just leave won’t you, with dignity. And ideally silence.

Good bye forever cruel forum.

Emily
Are you shitting me?

Nice you didn't leave, and never really planned to leave, I like your posts, love to see you stay - you can still turn around and show your starable ass from time to time

I’m so sorry. I thought it was obvious satire.

Of course, it's an obvious take-off on GTO Racer's parallel thread. He keeps saying he's leaving, and he comes back to explain how wronged he has been. Unless, perhaps, he is a master satirist himself and the whole thing is a put-on.

If so, what a fucking pointless exercise.
