I am Music

We have pretty similar tastes in rock and roll, I've noticed. :)
Age thing, m'dear. I've read that your taste in music is set by age 15.

Which can't be right, or I would like nothing better than Lou Christie or Dion and the Belmonts.
How do you feel about The Youngbloods?
Still have the LP of Elephant Mountain,. My band used to play "Sunlight," though badly, and "Get Together" even more badly (I was the rhythm part).

Reminiscing, I am overwhelmed by a feeling of peace and love.
No, actually. Always more Jefferson Airplane, Big Brother (with Janis, though didn't care for Janis solo), Quicksilver.
Hasn't been anything to match this stuff in years, years I tell you! (My daughter always says, "Face it Mom. You'll always be a hippie.) :D
There's always stuff to match it. We're just too old to see (or hear).
PS My Buffalo Springfield choices are likely a reflection of my decades long crush on Stephen Stills. I've always loved this one, too.
When I was young (like, oh, 14-15 when I got Buffalo Springfield Again as a Christmas present), I preferred Stephen Stills. But I also always loved Neil Young, and that kind of came to the foreground once the band broke up.

Both wrote and performed some great music. For me, Neil--crotchety old rock star that he is--kept something that Stills gave up.

But I understand both, I guess.

I wonder. I grew up with classical music, supposedly talking about Jockey Bear (Jaques Ibert) as a little kid. I'm back there now. Maybe 15 years of rock and roll.

Jefferson Airplane yes, but not so much for Jefferson Starship. Later Beetles, like late 60's.

All so long ago. Good memories and otherwise.

Ever hear of the Sons of Champlain? They were a late 60s San Fran band that apparently were mostly popular on the West Coast? I only knew of them because one of my friends had an album by them. But I fell in love with them, which if you know them, you'll get cause they were very jazzy.

One of the first times ee and I talked here at Lit we were discussing music and I mentioned how great The Sons were. He (being from San Fran) was shocked that I'd even heard of them and thrilled cause he loved them, too (saw them perform a bunch of times). I think that was the beginning of our great and glorious love for each other. That and that we both love Laura Nyro and Neil Young (which I agree with you, T-Zed, is much much talented overall than Stills--I just love Stills' voice), and erm other stuff.

One last story: best concert I ever went to was a be-in type thingy in Sheep's Meadow in Central Park with Jefferson Airplane right around when the Volunteers album came out. They had played the Filmore East that weekend and did this free concert that Sunday afternoon. It was an amazing experience: thousands of people dancing and singing along and um passing things around and being in. Hey, I had an older sister and my parents always made her drag me along. I was around 13 at the time. If they'd known what I was doing they'd never have let her take me anywhere!

Throw Your Arms Around Me by the Hunters and Collectors

I was listening to this song last night after many years of not having done so. It is the best hymn to the one night stand ever written and I feel in love with it after having several emotionally satisfying one night stands. Has one of the best lines ever in it (shed your skin and lets get started) and I think it stands as a poem.

Lucinda

Been listening to Lucinda Williams a lot lately. Anyone else a fan? She's such a strong woman, a realy hard rocker and her lyrics are literate and powerful.

Atonement

Unsuffer Me What a lyric! ~

Unlock my love
and set me free
come fill me up
with ecstasy

surround my heartbeat
with your fingertips
unbound my feet
untie my wrists

come in to my world
of loneliness
and wickedness
and bitterness
Unlock my love

Unsuffer me
Take away the pain
Unbruise unbloody
Wash away the stain
Anoint my head
With your sweet kiss
My joy is dead
I long for bliss

I long for knowledge
Whisper in my ear
Undo my logic,
undo my fear
Unsuffer me

Right in Time

Never heard of her until now but I certainly will be listening to more of her. Thanks for the buzzz

She's amazing. She comes out of the country genre but has crossed over to rock and blues and she plays with spoken word and goes all over the place. Her father is (was?) a poetry and literature professor and they lived all over the south and southwest when she was young: I think it all shows in her music. I'd check out songs from three of her (imo) best releases: Car Wheels on a Gravel Road, World Without Tears, and West.

I had never heard of her till I met eagleyez who has a chronic case of hots for her: I can see why. And she just played in my town about a week ago. We were going to see her but the tickets sold out in an hour or so, dernit.

damn it

4 months or so ...and today another call just to keep that foot in my door and to recall this one...

Can't believe I've never heard of her! Thank you, both. Saw Ricky Lee Jones recently at City Winery. Seeing Ben Lee tomorrow. :rose:

Adele's my latest musical crush. A breathtaking voice.

...even better version

I like her, too. She's very jazzy. I'd love to see her do some Gershwin or other jazz standards. She really has the voice for it.

I've been listening to a lot of Harry Nilsson lately, who I've always loved. Saw a great documentary of Netflix called Who is Harry Nilsson and Why is Everybody Talkin About Him?. That link takes you to the whole thing on YouTube. It's a great flick if you're a Nilsson fan.

He had the most wonderful voice and I loved the way he wrote.
