I just opened an Instagram account. What next?

Take pictures of yourself in adorable outfits against a fake exotic background and fun music, and make sure you look like you're having more fun than any real person ever has. Under your name, post "Here's what you are looking for" and two downward pointing hand emojis, below which is a link to your link page, and on that page insert the Literotica link.

Seriously, I don't think IG is a good forum to promote this. I have a Twitter/X account, and I don't think it's done much. But then, I don't promote myself on it frequently.

Instagram isn't like Playboy. People don't go there for the stories.

Not sure about IG (don’t have one), Twitter seem like a good place if you either plan to run ads; or constantly engage with audience by posting jokes, memes, (controversial?) opinions, and then mix that with your story announcements or outtakes.

No matter the network, you’ll have to constantly do something, or The Algorithm will bury you.

The hard thing for Insta is you need a photo or video really to go with the story?
It works when I am doing my model stories. I put a picture of them and link to reddit with their story. They reshare it. Loads of likes.
My stories...well...yeah I am lucky to get 1 or 2 likes and maybe 2 or 3 clicks.
Twitter is useful because Laurel/Manu whoever runs their Twitter account will retweet. Which means a lot more viewers.

This thread motivates me to use twitter more. Hopefully can get some more feedback.

Even though you're using that site to link back here, Xitter (pronounced shitter) is definitely a 'commercial site' and is loaded with harmful content.
Tag in the @Literotica account?

Well, here's an update on X/Twitter...

I was locked out and had to reverify myself as an actual person. I have a tiny handful of followers and I have followed those people back (mostly erotic literature authors or fans). I think I posted two things (maybe only one? Just a basic "hello" and a link to my first story on Literotica). And now I have a "label" that they told me will significantly impact who can see my account. I read through all of the information and can't see where I went wrong. I'm not spamming, I'm not doing anything with malware or phishing or any of that, I have not purchased followers, I'm not fraudulently inflating my followers, I'm not editing content...

Ugh...

I guess everyone was right when they told me it's really becoming a cesspool. Oh, well. I don't think the time and effort versus any benefits is something that I care to engage in. Is it just me or is it becoming increasingly difficult to promote anything creative online? ☹️

In other words, you opened a brand new account and:
  • didn't present as a real person
  • posted little to no original content on the platform
  • immediately began posting external links
  • fell into a content category (sex etc.) that is guaranteed to generate inflated levels of engagement
You've checked off basically every item on the "Is this a potential bot account?" checklist.

I know that it all looks benign from your point of view, but all that the bot and spam detection systems have are usage patterns. If something walks and quacks like a duck, it will be shot and cooked for dinner. This is not at all specific to X; every large online platform copes with the millions of bitters and spammers in similar ways.

Oh. Yeah. Good points. I guess I'm just too naive for social media. I have almost no online presence of my own and I've been working in the creative field for most of my life (and should know better by now). Good thing that in the real world, I have someone else handling all of my marketing. I suck at this.

It was the Literotica link most likely.

Engage with other accounts in conversation and you might get the restrictions lifted, but if you keep posting erotica links it'll likely stay.

The limitations are mostly about people who have adult content blocked. Your account most likely has an "adult content" label attached, which is basically a shadow ban.

Welcome to the club!
