I am out of Lit now , need to carpe diem and buy a new bed. I am not spending another single night on the lounge ( couch ). I think I have decided finally on the french provincial style sleigh, completely un kink friendly , then again just sometimes so am I.

I'll bore you with the details late night crew styling later Thor :smiles: x

Online serendipity strikes again..........

Quietly downloading a reward audiobook for the little emperor before retiring here I decided to treat myself to a few singles from the iTunes store.

A 'conversation' earlier in my evening reminded me of how fond I was of Piaf at certain times in my life so I decided to download a copy of " Non je ne regrette rien" to listen to before retiring. (listening to her now she is magnificent....purrss )

Savouring a little more time looking up a few other old songs . Several years ago there was this local Pub/Bar jukebox and we nearly killed it playing 'Lean on me' over and over one brilliant summer . It's a Bill Withers song and I scanned the list of singles presented. I impulse purchased 'Ain't no sunshine' another title that also presented caught my eye.... 'Use Me'.

Well I just couldn't resist acquainting myself with at least the lyrics now could I..............

Use Me ~ Bill Withers

My friends feel it's their appointed duty
They keep trying to tell me all you want to do is use me
But my answer yeah to all that use me stuff
Is I wanna spread the news that if it feels this good getting used
Oh you just keep on using me until you use me up
Until you use me up

My brother sit me right down and he talked to me
He told me that I ought not to let you just walk on me
And I'm sure he meant well yeah but when our talk was through
I said brother if you only knew you'd wish that you were in my shoes
You just keep on using me until you use me up
Until you use me up

Oh sometimes yeah it's true you really do abuse me
You get in a crowd of high class people and then you act real rude to me
But oh baby baby baby baby when you love me I can't get enough
I and I wanna spread the news that if it feels this good getting used
Oh you just keep on using me until you use me up
Until you use me up

Talking about you using me but it all depends on what you do
It ain't too bad the way you're using me
Cause I sure am using you to do the things you do
Ah ha to do the things you do

Ahuh it's downloading :smiles:

I may be bankrupt and up all night at this rate.

Never fear I will make sure to punish myself later .

most of the time I'm all sweet and panty-like, but once in a while I'm just mean - and the only thing around to be mean to is that thingy of mine....

Whenever I hear Piaf sing I just want to cry. I love the idea behind "Non je ne regrette rien" as well as the sound if it being sung, however it's political history is hard for me the deal with - it was used as a French "Fuck you" to Algiers

so

I'll stick with "La vie en rose". :rose:

"croissant and cappuccino for one, if you please...."

Interesting when I listen to Piaf I feel dignified resilience and I soar .

Leonard Cohen on the other hand , deep embracing poignant grief . Also good stuff :winks:

Honestly Cat I had no idea until I read your post here and then my brain went straight to Ian Thorpe and wondered what tragedy had befallen him. I just did a quick News search and discovered it was Billy Thorpe. Still a tragedy and 60 is just to young to 'retire' from life.

Here is one for the road and a song even I am familiar with.

Definately is sad. As my sisters were 8 & 9 years older than me, I was raised by the younger of the 2 on Billy Thorpe and other such music of the era, and then continued through my own youth. Faves have to be Poison Ivy and Over The Rainbow. Was just checking out what videos were out there of his a week ago...strange coincidences once again.

Well I have racked my brain to source my original knowledge of the Billy's music and the source it turns out to be the Owner of a venue in Oxford Street ( yes the infamous Sydney Mardi Gras one ) that I managed quite some time ago. This particular venue had boasted the origins of many of the now famous 'pub bands' in local culture. He was always very proud that bands like the Oils etc had all at some stage graced the stage there. I did an online search and did find some obscure blog references from the Sydney Morning Herald archives to support that errant memory so there you go. Obviously a far cry from the young bohemians that we were when it was under my jurisdiction , the 'good old days' were bands only , no underground night club combined live venue then . Couldn't sleep last night for the memories, thanks Cat. I am ruined today , busier than sin and blaming you .......:smiles:
