IC Not so normal day

"From what I've seen the female dorms might be our best bet, I killed two of the creatures on the second floor of the one male dorm. Who knows how many still lurk downstairs."

He glanced at the two girls,

"It is starting to get dark so I think we have to make a decision if we want to get to saveish place."

Lily gently pushed past Mazie, "Female dorms we have been there already, me and Mazie pretty much know the layout of it. That is probably our safe bet once more."

She looked to Mazie for support, smiling she continued whilst walking behind Andrew. "We can get there by going back to the control room and running as before, the locks should be still holding in the south building so most of those things should be still there."

she could still hear the distant ringing of the fire alarm bells, but they were easy enough to turn off, all she needed was, if they did get to the dorm there had to be a laptop, and then she could turn it off, hack once more into the system then they can get some sort of idea on the situation whilst regaining their energy and hopefully finding that last security card.

"If for some reason the dorm is no longer safe, after all the door was unlocked when we left, we could just camp out on the roof of a building. but then again i didn't see the weather forecast either."

Lily sighed as she once again brushed the loose strands of her hair from her face, all of a sudden her legs felt heavy, her body tired. shaking herself mentally she smiled at the others, "so...whats next?"

"Normally I'd say that the weather isn't a problem. My tent has survived some nasty storms. But there's no place to anchor it on a roof. If the girls' dorms are a no-go, then there's a chance we won't be getting any sleep tonight unless we luck out and find somewhere else that's still safe."

Mazie could sense that Lily was starting to feel tired but didn't think it was her place to out the girl. If Lily was willing to power through her exhaustion, then Mazie had nothing but respect for her. Andrew didn't seem to be tired yet, or if he was, then he was good at hiding it. Mazie was still holding strong for now but knew that eventually they would all need to get some rest. If the girls' dorms turned out to be unsafe, then things were surely going downhill for them.

"Well so far every place we have been or seen is infected. The best would then to find a smaller building that we can defend easily if needed. Clear it out and settle in for the night. We need the rest, it's been a hectic day so far."

He went up the stairs to the room the computer stood in, he looked over the map, then pointed,

"How about the groundskeeper's apartment? It's stand-alone and not very big."

Lily looked over Andrews shoulder at the map, "Sounds good we could make a run for it, its not that far."

She turned and look at the computer screen bringing up the CCTV, "Seems we are in luck." she muttered, pointing to the screen she could see that most of them things were still contained in the south building which just left maybe a few wondering around the campus.

Turning she sat on the edge of the desk crossing her arms, "I'm ready when your ready." she smiled at both of them.

"I'm ready."

He turned around to face the two of them,

"We really need to find some transport as well, if we get out of here we can't run all the time. And what if we're caught in the countryside? We will not make that."

"As far as transport goes, I know of two options that are right here on campus. There are the security patrol carts in the storage building on the far side of the grounds or the bike racks all over the place. Even if we steal one of the carts, we could still take a couple of the bikes just in case."

Mazie pointed on the map to the building she mentioned and gestured broadly over the map to indicate the location of the bike racks.

"I think the carts will be easiest since we already have the security keys to get into the building. Chances are most of the bikes would be chained and then we'd just have to waste time cutting them free."

"Cart? I think they will not work. We could try the bikes when we are ready to head out. Think we will need speed for now, perhaps later if we can find a SUV or Jeep, Hummer or something like that we can go for protection and power."

He ran his fingers through his hair,

"Right, point of exit the normal route and run like hell? Sound like a plan?"

Lily listened in a moment and coughed... "erm.. you could just use my SUV." she blushed a little, her parents loved to show off and well they wanted their daughter to be the same, she had argued non stop for a month about driving the horrid thing, but no, their daughter had to have this and this. She mentally shook herself this isn't time for memory lane.

Sighing she stood readjusting the rucksack, "Ok we should focus on camping out somewhere tonight, plan in the morning then our minds won't be cluttered."

Grabbing the baseball bat once more she grinned, "I'm ready."

"You could've mentioned the car earlier. That probably would've helped."

Mazie took out her knife and adjusted the blade, just in case they ran into more of the monsters.

"Anyway, I'm all set. I guess we should get going then."

He nodded,

"A SUV will come in handy."

He headed for the door that Mazie and he had slipped out earlier, he cracked it open, the coast looked clear. He slipped out, there was no creature in evidence, so he started to slowly make his way along the building, the lengthening shadows aiding their concealment. Adjusting the bag, he slid one sword out of it's sheath, he wanted to make sure he was ready if the did run into anything. He glanced at the girls behind him,

"OK, let's hope this is the last run for the day."

Lily chuckled nervously, "sorry i know i should have but its parked about a block away, its a hideous big thing and well... i didn't think we would be in this situation." she shook her head standing up, she smiled, "Anyways lets concentrate on one thing at a time shall we?"

She watched as Andrew opened the door she couldn't help but hold her breath as she watched him go outside, seeing him give the signal to come as well, she waited for Mazie to leave first and slowly clicked the door shut behind her.

Moving along the shadows, she looked around everywhere but it seemed to be no sign, which was a little reassuring but in the back of her mind the little voice was screaming that they could jump out at any time.

They turned a corner and saw the ground keepers apartment on the other side of the open central part of the campus. Sneaking past Mazie she bent down and whispered to both of them, "I'll run first as there doesn't seem to be any about, so if any jump out you both can have your fun." she grinned at both of them before nodding. Taking once last look around she ran first to the big old oak that sat up the side and hid behind, still looking around she took a two second breathing break, and then ran as fast as she could to the side of the gardener's apartment.
pinning herself against the wall, she got her cell from her pocket and prank called Mazie, knowing she would understand they were ok to move.

Peeking quickly around to the front of the apartment ... "Shit." she whispered there standing was two of the football team and they were big fella's ... but then again it only seemed two right? walking along the wall she peeked to the rear entrance and saw no one, but that was probably locked, hopefully they would get in.

The buzzing of Mazie's phone told Andrew that the coast was clear, he ran in half a crouch, sword at the ready for any surprises. He met up with Lily and waited for Mazie to join them, after Lily told him about the front door, he headedd to the back door, peeking into every window to see if he could make out anything, there wasn't any movement, but these things didn't seem to move a lot anyway.

He stopped at the backdoor, searched his jean's pocket and found what he was looking for, he withdrew a thin blade with a piece of wire attached to it from his pocket. Pushing the sword's point into the grass, he slipped the blade and wire into the keyhole and picked the lock. A soft click met his success and he pushed the door open a crack, before stowing his lockpick and pulling his sword out of the ground. He pushed the door open a bit wider and slipped inside.

Lily smiled when she saw Andrew slip in, following in his footsteps she quickly slipped inside also, making sure Mazie was not far behind, once they were all in she softly closed the door.

Looking around, it seemed no one had been in here for quite some time, there were cobwebs dusting every corner, rusty equipment scattered here and there, but what could she complain about they weren't outside with those things.

Tapping Andrew on the shoulder she pointed to the two football stud standing outside the front, you could see their shadows blurred through the dirty windows.
Tip toeing further in she looked around and found a set of stairs leading down, it must have been where they keep the back up generator, heaven knows why, for as long as she had been there they had never suffered a power cut or extreme weather, slowly peeling off her ruck sack she sat it down on the ground, the baseball bat still held tightly in her hand.

He nodded when Lily showed him the two creatures outside, he didn't know why, but he wasn't very comfortable with the term zombie, it sounded like science fiction or fantasy to him. He watched as Lily slid off her rucksack, clearly aiming to head downstairs. He pushed the door closed, he engaged the deadbolt and grinned at her.

"Let's make sure the ground area is safe, then head downstairs."

His whisper was soft and low, so that only Lily and Mazie could hear him, the two things outside didn't move, so at least they did not have super hearing. He headed for the adjoining two rooms, wanting to make sure the place was clear before they could think of baricading the doors and windows and get some rest.

Lily nodded and checked the other room whilst Andrew checked the next one over and Mazie stood guard watching the two outside.
Walking back out she shook her head mouthing, "Nothing." keeping an eye on the two at the front she walked back to her rucksack and slowly walked down the stairs, testing the door she smiled when it creaked softly open.
Looking to Andrew she whispered, "They moving or not?" as she opened the door a little further, "I think we should camp out down here for now, then we don't risk them seeing us if they look through the window."
Some how she knew they were never going to be that clever but sometimes fate was a bitch and Lily did not want to risk it at all. Creeping into the spare generator room she smiled as around the corner it opened into what could only be called a basement / shelter. putting her rucksack down gently once more she checked all the corners of the room, and gave Andrew and Mazie the thumbs up sign, everything was clear.

He went down into the sub terrain room, he looked around and nodded,

"It should do, those guys are oblivious to us in here, but why they're just standing there I would like to know."

He went up the stairs, pulling the door close, but making sure not to engage the dead bolts accidentally. He looked down at Mazie and Lily.

"We forgot one thing. Something to sleep on."

Lily look around before opening her rucksack, "I have a blanket." she held it up and frowned there had to be something here.
Searching around she stopped herself from screaming when a spider crawled across her hand, shaking it away she took a deep breath and continued searching. She was about to give up her search when behind the generator she found what seemed to be a stack of bed cots.

Turning back she whispered to Andrew, she didn't know if they would hear the normal voices, "Come round here, there seems to be bed cots of some sort but i cant get them or whatever they are from behind the generator."

She knew it would probably be junk, but hopefully their luck hadn't ran out yet.

He first listened for any motion from the small scream, then he went over to where Lily had pointed. He peered at the staple and could make out rusted springs, broken legs and splintered wood.

"I really don't think I would like to trust my life on that."

He motioned up the stairs,

"Wasn't there anything in the room you searched? I saw a sofa, I think we can cannibalize the cushions for something to sleep on."

Lily nudged him with her elbow, "It was just an idea." she muttered before smiling, "Sure the cushions will do maybe we can scrape together some more things."
She pushed her rucksack and blanket to the edge of the room and put it against the wall.
Rubbing her hands down her jeans, she pulled her ponytail out before redoing it, "Ok shall we go searching." she grinned and made her way upstairs as quietly as she could.

Opening the door she peeked outside, it was still empty the two jocks no longer at the window, taking a further step in she looked through one of the windows turning she shook her head, "Nothing." she mouthed to Andrew, unsure if the jocks had just wondered further along the building but she didnt want to make too much noise to bring them back.

He nodded and followed her, inside he drew one sword and started to cut the cushions loose from the wooden frame. He listened as low moaning sounds came from outside, it was moving. Apparently they have heard the scream and was now looking for the origin as a scream meant food.

After cutting the cushions loose, he started looking around, the shed had turned out to be one that was used for storage. Where the groundskeeper stayed was something he did not know. He found a threadbare blanket, it was dusty, but clean otherwise. He shook the most dust off, folded the blanket and took it to the cushions, he carried the cushions towards the door and waited to see if Mazie and Lily found anything else.

Lily searched as quietly as she could but most of the stuff were gardening tools, some old desks were propped up against the wall giving her an idea. Picking one up she silently placed it against the door where the two jocks had been waiting previously.
Sneaking back she put one of the desk chairs underneath the back doors handle, either way if something or someone was to come in they would hear either the desk or chair.
Rubbing the dust off her jeans she looked around once more and shrugged, shaking her head she followed Andrew back to the basement were the generator was.
Walking over to it she bit her lip, "I just hope this thing doesn't kick start, they make a terrible noise." she looked up at the small light bulb hanging from the ceiling, it shouldn't kick in anytime soon, but then again they hardly knew what was happening outside the school grounds.
Grabbing a cushion from Andrew she placed it down on the floor and sat crossed leg, with the baseball bat at her feet she began opening her rucksack, "Drink anyone?" she asked pulling out a bottle of water.

"I'd kill for a drink."

He paused,

"Oh wait, I already have."

He grinned and took a bottle from Lily, he sat down on a cushion, legs out in front of him, crossed at the ankles.

"I think it has a manual control."

He pointed at the switchbox on the wall, a large knob next to it,

"It should be pressed in and then the genie started using that button on the box next to the fuel tank."

Lily nodded and took another sip of her water, looking around she sighed, "how the hell did we end up trying to survive?" she asked.

Putting the bottle down at her feet she stretched her arms above her head, "So whats the plan, we sleep? we escape?"

Then thinking aloud she muttered, "Wonder if anyone else has survived?"

"I guess we are the lucky ones, or at least I hope so. I can't really think that being dead and yet be alive can make one lucky."

He leaned against the wall and nodded,

"I think it is the best, sleep and then get the hell out of Dodge. I just hope that outside there is survivors, we really can't be the only three alive in the world."
