IC Not so normal day

Lily took one last drink out of the water bottle before placing it down. She pulled the blanket over her, bringing her rucksack to her head and using it as a pillow.

"I doubt sweet dreams will be appropriate." she chuckled before yawning. "See you in a couple of hours." she stretched before closing her eyes, hoping she would at least get some kind of decent sleep.

"Sleep well."

He watched as the girls settled in, he laid down on one of the cushions, found it uncomfortable and switched to the floor, which was much better. He cushioned his head on the makeshift matress and closed his eyes, not really sleeping, but resting his body.

Lily knew she wouldn't get a good nights sleep and she was right, it seemed every few seconds something creaked, or she thought she heard a footstep upstairs. After what seemed hours she opened her eyes and stared at the ceiling feeling beside her she smiled as the coldness of the metal baseball bat met her skin.
Stretching a little she looked to her side and saw Mazie sleeping away like a baby, she held her chuckle back maybe one day she would sleep like that, that's if they survived. She shook that mental thought out of her mind straight away, positive thinking she repeated to herself over and over.
She froze as she heard a scrap of a foot against concrete, slowly sitting up she realized it was only Andrew who seemed to have decided the floor would be more comfortable, she could only look on in confusion, was he human??
Sitting up fully she stretched her feet, not the worst nights sleep she ever had, but could of been better. Opening her rucksack she took a bottle of water out and began to have a few sips when she heard the scrapping sound coming from upstairs. Frozen in place she listened in for a few moments 'shit.'
Crawling over to Andrew as quietly as she could she nudged his shoulder once, with no reply she shoved him even harder, once he was awake she pointed upstairs and put her finger to her lips telling him to be quiet, and there it was again the scrapping, was someone up there?

He woke up, he had fallen asleep? He looked at Lily, then upstairs, the door was closed. But if something could get in they had to open something. He got to his feet, drawing one of the knives Mazie had given him and only then stretched, hearing the satisfying pops of joints settling, he was sure that he could creep up without the nasty surprise of a joint popping on the wrong moment. He moved up the stairs and placed his head to the door, listening

Lily followed closely behind Andrew with Mazie behind her, she waited nervously as she watched him place his head against the door. Without thinking she grabbed the back of his jacket just so she could pull him back if anything did try and grab him.
Closing her eyes she steadied her breathing, who knew if these creatures could hear anything as small as a breath, she doubted it but she wasn't going to take that chance.
Looking up to the ceiling still holding onto Andrew she listened, straining her ears to see if any more sound came from above.
A silly thought entered her mind at that very moment, what if it was just a mouse? it was too loud for a mouse she thought maybe a rat, after all they were in the maintenance shed.

There was no sound other than their own breathing, how did it come in if it was one of the creatures? He quickly pulled his clawed gloves from his bag and slipped it on, just in case. He reached for the door handle, pushing it open slowly, knife held at the ready, he got his foot forward, pushing the door further open, one hand up in a defense position, knife held just in front of him. He scanned their immediate surroundings and saw nothing, making sure that the door pushed against the wall he stepped out of the doorway, constantly scanning his surroundings.

Lily knelt at the door watching Andrew as he entered the room further. It didn't make sense for all of them to go out into the room searching as for one they didn't know if was one of those things or as Lily had thought just a rat or something.
Lily moved further into the room after Mazie told her she would stand at the door, nodding she tip toed in, looking around she searched also.

"Nothing." she mouthed to Andrew when she saw him looking her way, had they just imagined it? or was it just because she hadn't had enough sleep and her nerves were jumping all over the place.

He shrugged at Lily, then there was a movement to his left, more a scuffing sound, he whirled and threw the knife, it sunk into something with a loud thud and the scuffing noise became a scurry as a rat who got startled out of is foraging beat a hasty retreat. Andrew frowned, the figure remained upright and he was sure that he had hit the head. He moved slowly forward only to find that the knife was sticking out of a dummy, he withdrew the knife and smiled sheepishly, he had to get a grip, he was throwing weapons at shadows now. He moved over to Lily,

"That was a rat."

Lily began giggling but covered her mouth to try and muffle the sound.

"I think we have stayed in this school too long." Looking to the window she shrugged her shoulders, "Lets go pack up our stuff and get the hell out of here, my SUV should be just a block away not to far, still looks early so we have time before it gets dark again."

He glanced at the window,

"Perhaps just wait until it's light enough to see, don't want to go blundering into a group of these things."

"True." she nodded before walking back to the door,

"How about we check our supplies see what we still have, if we need anything new that we haven't thought about before and plan the next step of the plan. That should pass the time till it is light enough."

She thought for a moment looking at her rucksack, "My SUV is big enough for extra supplies so I can pick stuff up, but that can wait don't want to be planning too far ahead, when we don't really know the situation outside the school."

"We seem to be between two fires, either prepare for the worse, or don't prepare too much. I think more is better, we should gather what supplies and weapons we can find, if on the outside it's not as bad as this, then we can just sell the supplies for some cash..."

He grinned suddenly,

"A student always needs cash."

Lily smiled and laughed, placing her rucksack on her shoulder she looked around making sure she had not left anything, "Well that is true..." she bit her lip.

She knew once they saw the SUV they would know she hadn't been in that kind of situation, having to sell stuff for money but her life wasn't at all good, she was always alone and it was true money couldn't buy happiness.

Pulling her other arm through the rucksack handle she adjusted it on her back, tying it tightly so it did not slip and grabbed her baseball bat, "Time to go." she grinned, gripping the baseball bat tightly.

Andrew slid his bag over his shoulder, cinching it tight,

"By now it should be time to..."

A clatter upstairs reminded him of the chair and desk that Lily had placed in front of the front door. He looked over at her,

"We never checked if the front door was actually locked."

"Shit." lily muttered whilst grabbing her baseball bat and headed to the door, she closed it quietly and listened, holding up her fingers whilst her ear was against the door she pointed out two.
She looked to Andrew and Mazie, "I think our jocks are back." she whispered still listening, the audible scrapping of the desk could be heard from above.
Stepping back abit she held her baseball bat tightly, looking to both of them she shrugged her shoulders, "What's the plan? rambo style it? or lead them down here and jump?"
Lily could feel the nerves beginning to grow inside her stomach but taking a few deep breaths she calmed herself and her mind, they would get out of this, they had too.

Andrew grinned and drew two throwing darts from his bag,

"How about we just kill them and move? I'm up for some running today, I feel that I need the exercise, been getting a bit flabby."

He patted his thin waist.

Lily muffled her laughter, trying to put on a serious face she looked to Andrew,

"Be my guest..." she smiled bowing slightly at the door.

Waiting till her was near she nodded to each of them before opening the door slowly, the shuffling from above was more audible now the door was open, gripping the baseball bat she moved to the other side of the door and motioned for Andrew to go ahead, after all throwing those things would be alot quieter then her bashing the brains out,

As the door moved open, he rushed out, his eyes taking in the two jocks who seemed to stand stupidly at the door, like something had drawn them into the building but they did not know what. They seemed to sense him rushing up the stairs and turned slowly, his wrists flicked and the two darts embedded themselves in the brains of the walking dead. They fell to the ground, dead once again. He bent over them to retrieve the darts, then he moved out of the door, darts held ready for any attack.

Lily waited till Andrew gave the all clear so her and Mazie could join him upstairs. True enough the two jocks lay on the floor motionless, stepping over them Lily tightened her grip on the bat. Nodding to Mazie and Andrew she looked out of the door which was now opened.
It seemed clear but she knew there had to be some wondering around, the south building's locks were still in place and would be unless the power went out, but looking at the windows the lights were still shining brightly so they were still in luck on that aspect.
Looking to Andrew, Lily smiled, "Ok my SUV is one block away on Anderson Road. We can get there quick enough, should be try the cards or I have the code to shut down the electric fence."
She held up her cell proudly as the screen showed the passwords ready to enter.

He nodded,

"Good job, so now we are doubly certain that we can get out."

He scanned the outside, wiped the darts on the lawn and slipped them back into his bag, from the cilindric holder on his lower back he drew another weapon, it looked like a sickle when he flicked his wrist to open the blade which was housed inside the metal pipe, it locked into position with a click.

"Right, let's creep to that gate and see if we can open it and then work our way to your SUV."

Lily gave him a quick thumbs up before running towards the outer fence. She didn't want to touch it as even from the distance she was, she could hear the humming of the of electricity as it ran through the metal.
Taking a deep breath she crouched down and was lucky to mostly be concealed by some bushes, seeing the coast was clear she motioned for Andrew and Mazie to join her.
Moving slowly to the other side of the bush she peered round and saw one of those things standing just outside the east building, if they were quick enough the would not be seen.
Looking to Andrew she pointed to the east building and held up one finger. Scanning the area again she found none.
It took her a few minutes to realize she still had access to the CCTV camera's from her cell, bringing it out of her pocket she watched as the small images flickered on the screen, sliding her finger along she checked each CCTV in the surrounding area.
Her face went pale as she stopped at one of the camera's beyond the east building, showing it to Andrew she whispered, "Looks like they have been waiting." she could only stare at the screen as it showed a huddle of those things, at least ten.

He looked at the screen,

"From the amount of shadows there could be even more."

He thoughtfully chewed his lip, he knew that they could take on ten, these walking corpses weren't tough opposition, but more might become tricky.

"Let me go check."

He slid his bag off and slipped away, sickle in one hand, low and almost out of sight. He made his way to the building and checked out the group from the roof, there were a total of twelve, still managble odd. He slipped away and made his way back to Lily and Mazie,

"Twelve, that is all there is."

Lily nodded, "No problem, need some morning exercise." she grinned before chuckling, handing Andrew back his rucksack she grabbed the baseball bat she had placed on the grass.

"So i think we should plan our attack so we are not surrounded at any time, one from each side? or just make a path through. Either way we need to attack fast and get to that gate."

Taking a deep breath she moved from one foot to another, it was time to concentrate and keep a calm head.

He took the bag and slipped it back on over his shoulder,

"Silent and fast will be the key, I can wade in, killing what I can and you two follow up and hit them from behind while I keep them busy. We should be able to handle that."

Lily agreed before watching Andrew do his job. She waited crouched for a couple of seconds before running towards his location, bringing the bat up above her shoulder she swung, smiling when she heard the bat connect with the skull of one of those things. Bringing it up once more she battered the skull once more, watching as the blood splattered across the grass.
Running forward once more she batted one off Andrew, pushing the rest away, looking over her shoulder she shouted, "Cover me."
Kicking one of those things away she ran into the security box, looking around quickly she brought out her cell phone, checking that Andrew and Mazie were holding up, she bent down and opened up codes on her phone whilst getting the computer running.
It seemed to take forever then it burst into life, smiling she typed in the codes and was about to give the thumbs up to Andrew and Mazie when the gate shuttered closed once more, "Your fucking joking!" she screamed kicking the desk. "Shit shit shit!" she repeated placing the cell back into her jeans pocket, running out she brought the bat up again and hit one of them next to Andrew, "Codes won't work need the last card." she shouted, looking around for her next victim.
