I wasn't going to post to this discussion, but since my name was mentioned, I'm not gonna let it slide. I agree with KM on the issue of balance. There does seem to be a balance in the threads lately, and I am thankful for that. It's wonderful to see again.

WS, no offense taken. I admire you very much, but you're right about not much interaction. That's just the way of it, I think.

Now, as for the original subject, while I was unhappy with the state of the board, I tried to occupy myself with other things, and was mostly successful. Quite an eye-opening experience!

No not bitter at all, I was simply relaying a situation from the past as an example. My board persona is fine with me, if someone else does not like it so be it.

I have no axe to grind but I can say I am glad to see you making adult comments now and not resorting to the You Suck Go Away comments still. As for the bless my heart, why thank you that was very sweet of you to say.

And, even though this has been explained to you SEVERAL times, the reason whisper and Ambro didn't take their disagreement in the "Thank You Threads" to email was because there were SEVERAL people on both sides of the issue. It was a PUBLIC debate. The reason April jumped on you was because you were being tedious (kind of like now).

I think what CB doesn't like is when people (like myself) are sharp with our words. I respect that and understand that, but I am not going to stop pointing out that dimwits like you continually act dense and distort facts to vilify others like Whisper and April.

UH I did all for the nookie? No no it is all right here

I basically come here for 5 Reasons:

1) I like the SRP boards because there are so many fun people to write with and sometimes I get a charge out of some of the things my fellow writers write and the game of one upsmanship that I enjoy with other writers. There is a competitive groove that produces great chemistry between a group and when it hits it is a fun ride

2) The interesting converstaion. With so many different people on Lit, it is almost fun to see others point of view. It helps me see the world with my eyes wide open instead of wide shut (unlike a lot of other people)

3) The people, yup I can honestly say if it was not for the group I feel comfortable working with I would have quit a LONG time ago. I mean a lot of the people I have posted with over the past few month that I got the chance to connect with have been amazing people. Me and CB talk all the time, in threads me and Ren are ALWAYS trying to top each other and that is usually our best stuff, me and Rosethorn talk once and while if we actually catch each other and basically me and a lot of others had some passing thoughts to each other. It is these people that make me come back to Lit every single day no matter how many other people have decided to flame me.

4) I am addicted to Lit. Well I can say that is the common answer but hey fuck it. It is late and I can't find any pornos worth beating off to.(j/k) lol

5) UHHH the Devil makes me do it. ( the Classic)


What I can not stand is when people tell you stupid things like you suck without knowing any thing about you. For instance in an earlier thread I passingly said I was a journalist major and one asshole decided to dedicate a whole freaking post to my sentence structure. I mean come on now. You got to admit that is a trite bit on the anal retentive dickhead side


PS: CB does not mind sharp tongued people because we always post together and talk to each other and I am the sharpest tongued, most opinionated asshole at times and we always get a long. Maybe it depends on the person.

Basicly, I think it is that some people complain but stay is because the good things about Lit usualy outnumber the bad. It's just that there are always going to be bad qualitys about the board that some people will have the guts to say something about.

There was a time when I was going to leave because the bad qualitys were just getting to me. There were some people flaming me, a thread I put in the ORP board that I had wanted to try and help brighten things up over there got deleted, and basicly it wasn't alot of fun here. But, then I just remembered the good things about this board and I stayed around.

So my guess is that is why some people complain alot yet stay here. Although, I'm sure that it is not the same case with everyone that posts here.

Because they really don't hate it here, they just love to complain. Haven't you ever run into the type of person that can't be happy unless they are complaining about something? My father is one of those. He's been that way since I can remember. Nothing, I mean nothing in life is good to him. If that man didn't have something to bitch about he'd keel over and die the very next minute. As is he's made it 74 years, so I guess it works, for him anyway.
Actually if you want to get to it, I think the base question here is why do we put up with that type of behavior. Why let someone that uses the board as "their toilet" post?
My opinion? Let it be. let them say what they wish to say. Read, absorb, agree or disagree with it, but don't complain about the complainers, otherwise you risk becoming one. I'll enter those discussions, like this one, that I think are serious and thought provoking. I'll also jump into those that I think are pure fun. I'll laugh at those that are unadulterated cramp, then pass them by. And I will fire when fired upon. Yes a simple answer for a complex question, but for me, sometimes, simple is the best way.
Would I like to see a homogenous, mix where everyone agrees and nothing is resolved? To put it bluntly, not on your fucking life! Somebody has to stir the pot, keep the mix roiling. Even though some of it makes my blood boil, I'd spend my last breath defending their right to voice what ever idea or thought they are advocating.
Those people that I don't agree with and whose post's run toward the hysterical or obnoxious edge, I ignore them. How? Why? Simple.

When people say, "I hate Literotica because so-and-so called me a Loser," well, there's not a whole lot I can do about that. When people come to me and say, "I don't like the way this is laid out, and that could be done more nicely, and I'd like to have these categories made available," those are criticisms I can control. Because when people say, "Literotica is great, except for these three people who make silly/mean/stupid posts on the BB," that isn't a criticism of the site per se, but an acknowledgement that they don't get along with everyone on it.

More than once, two people have gotten into it with each other. Inevitably, one of them will leave and send me an email or post a message on the BB saying, "I hate Literotica!" And I sit here scratching my head, wondering what me or Manu ever did to him or her. It'd be nice if people could learn to separate the site from their interactions on the site - the former is something Manu and I can control, the latter is something only they as users can control.

I'm 100% behind anything that will improve Lit. However, I can't stop conflict, short of booting off any two people who disagree with each other (which runs very contrary to the idea behind Lit). If you choose to fight with people, that's YOUR choice, not ours. We all have control over how we act to fellow users and how we react to assholes. In a free society, the responsibility rests on the individual - not on Government, not on Mommy, not on the Webmaster/mistress.

You and you alone are responsible for your good time.

If there's something about the site itself that inhibits your good time, then it's your responsibility to email me with your concerns or post it here. If what you don't like about the site is something that I am willing and able to change, I will. If what you don't like about Lit is something I cannot or will not change - the name, the ability to post as a guest, the Free Speech focus - then I don't know what to say.

We all choose where we want to be, who we want to be, and with whom we want to be. It's all about personal responsibility. So go out there and have fun!

Yep, and I'm one of those Literotica Addicts. Although I don't post a whole lot, I'm always checking the BB to see if there are any new topics, discussions or altercations happening. And I admit that any time I see that Madame Pandora or Whisper Secret have posted, I rush right over to read it, knowing it'll be good. (In my next life I want to be as scathingly witty and dangerously expressive and accurate as MP.)

I think that posting aggressively to BB's is the Virtual equivilent to Road Rage. Instead of feeling safe inside the steel carapaces of our cars, we are anonymously safe behind our keyboards and monitors. And as Elvis Costello says: "Accidents will happen; it's only hit n' run."

Psst hey Whispersecret here is another example for you. You and I were having a civil discussion, with valid points, not arguing at all and Madame Pandora, who is not involved in it at all hops in and gets condescending and jumps on me for daring to respond to your request for an example.

I am a nice person in real life, there is just something about the pack feel of the attacks that went on while Laurel and Manu were gone that brought out the worst in me for which I am sorry, mainly to myself for dropping to that level and letting people I do not know piss me off that bad.

Flame away Madame Pandora, on this post or any others I post in the future, if you wish that is your right. I am going to become, as some of you put it one of the "shiney people" here, since that is how I am in real life.

CB, you I will address. I didn't "label" LacyCasy a dimwit. IMHO, she does that all by herself. In Italian, I'd call her a "noioso," but the closest English has is "dimwit." I would have called her "obtuse" but I didn't want her to have to look anything up. I'm sure you've caught on that I don't much care for her. I'm glad she did apologize to KM and WS, though. Shows she has AT LEAST the brains to realize at some point that she was in over her head.

As I have said previously, CB, I respect that you frown upon labeling/name calling. I call 'em like I see 'em. If I see a "dimwit" I say "she’s a dimwit." In this case, it is mostly because from her previous posting, I don't think she's capable of the logical presentation of a position on any issue other than to take shots at others.

I don't think everything has to be "all in good fun" but that's just me.

As for the topic of "cronies" that term doesn't really bother me. Like people tend to agree often - birds of a feather and all. People who have been labeled my "cronies" or whom I have been labeled a "crony" of, are all intelligent and independent people. I am honored to be lumped into any category that includes them, even when we are now humorously referred to as "the pound" (which, BTW, was not a name WE came up with). I really don't care one way or the other if I have a "dog pound" image. I am what and who I am. I don't need to be liked by everyone. Life is just too short for that.

As for why people don’t just say “agreed” I assume it’s because they have something to add in their agreement. The powerful play goes on and they want to contribute a verse. How boring is “yeah, what she said?” I’d rather read/hear a full account. That’s just me. But then, I’m not intimidated or turned off by long posts (obviously).

CB, I appreciate that you take a great deal of pride in what others think of you. I appreciate that you strive to be a caring, considerate person. I respect that. I do. But not everyone is motivated by those feelings. Do I hurt people intentionally? No. Will I express myself sharply if I feel the need? Yes. And, if I am ever convinced I was wrong, I will also apologize. I understand your feelings, and I respect them. I don't need or ask that you respect mine, but I’m not going to alter my behavior for you or anyone. I respect your right to ask. Whether or not you respect my right to deny your request…that is up to you.

For what it’s worth, I don't think respect should be automatic. I also don't think it's deliberate. If I walk into a room full of strangers, I am not thinking: "I respect everyone here." While I will maintain common courtesy, if I see someone showing their ass, I will say, "you are being an ass." It's just my way. If anyone looks upon that with distaste that is their prerogative. In my experience, IRL, more people are inclined to be grateful someone spoke up. But IRL and online are not always the same environment.

The point of this thread, Todd has said, was to vent a little about trolls. But, I think most trolls are board regulars who just don't have the gumption to attach a cyber name to their comments (this STILL blows my mind). I say what I mean. Period. I vent like anyone else. I have fun, too. But I don’t walk away from anything I feel is worth expressing.

Like Laurel said, it is not her (or the site's) responsibility for anyone's behavior.

It amuses me that so many people claim to "loathe" threads that contain "personal attacks" and yet so many people respond to them. I think it's like the Jerry Springer Show. Everyone says how shameful it is, but everyone watches it.

I make "personal attacks" when I feel it's warranted. And if you don't think I rein myself...trust me on this, I could be a lot crueler than "dimwit" but it isn't warranted. My goal isn't to hurt. It's just to say it as I see it. No malice intended.

I think the question more in debate in this thread is "why do people feel the need to argue" not "why don't people like it here?"

People who feel strongly will debate. Not everyone will do so nicely. There are several threads that say "Hi, I'm feeling cute today" and those people are free to play in them. They usually do so harmlessly and enjoy themselves. There are also several that are ONLY antagonistic "Bush/Clinton rapes sheep and drinks imported beer" and certain types respond to them. That's just life. I think of myself as somewhere in between. When I want to throw my hat into the ring, I will. Respect me, don't respect me...whatever. I'm me. You're you. (and so we are all together…goo goo ga joob)

But, that’s just my opinion, I could be wrong.

True Whispersecret, also I was just trying to put to use the semester of pyscology I took, I don't care if people don;t like the site or complain. I am just trying to figure out why people feel the inherent need to ctake the time and effort to complain about they don't like. It doesnt maeke it goe away, look nicer, sound better or look better by complaining. It seems more work to complain than to ignore or go away. Just like its takes more muscles to scowl or than it does to smile.

Literotica is a great site because of the bulletin board and the chat. I hadn't tried the chat, mainly because of the separate registration process. I know the only reason I come to this site three or four times a week is to read what's been posted on the bulletin board.
