It won't. 40% will vote Democrat - even if it was Stalin running on the need for new and more extensive purges. 40% will vote Republican - even if Hitler the candidate and wants to kill another 6 million Jews. 8% will vote third party - just because we like hopeless causes. The remaining 12% decide who will fuck us for the next 4 years.

The sad thing is that only 53% of those who can vote - will vote.

Apart from the percentages and the fact we have more than two parties, it isn't so different here. The make up of Parliament, and hence the govt, is down to a handful of swing voters in marginal seats.
It's a very good argument for proportional representation.
