Illusion Vale (OOC)

well it looks like in anglicized form it may be. the words for angel and death in irish gaelic anyway are aingeal and bUs respectively, so i believe angel of death would be something like aingeal de bUs and pronounced aHngil devUs. from there its easy to see where an anglicization could have rendered it Angelus.

Wow. I can see where it would come from. Just because the old English went "Huh?" when they heard it the first time...

Not really. You just have to listen carefully like with every other language in this world.... otherwise you stand there scratching your head and going "What did you say" or finding yourself in a very bad situation....

It would be an interesting world trip though. :D

Not yet but I plan on it in the not too distant future.... as well as the rest of the world, well not all of it but as much as I can fit in with the time that I have left in this world. I have a lot of good years left in me so I can do a lot of travelling.

youll love ireland my friend. are you an irishman? youll love it even if you arent, but if you are the spirits of the land will speak to you in ways that are impossible to explain.

I'm sure that I will when I get there. My ancestors came from Ireland and I have a great grandfather who was Irish. I think that's why I want to go there, to see where they all came from.

most beautiful place in the world my friend, i am confident. the people are amazingly friendly and the beer really is better. there will most likely be some form of precipitation every day, but its nice anyway. whereabouts were your people from?

I'm not sure exactly. That's part of the reason I want to go there, to find out just where they came from. It would be a good trip to undertake, to find out just where you came from.

Aye it would, my people came from Donegal, Inis Eoghain to be exact, and my clan had the last ruling Gaelic Chieftain. Cahir Rua O'Doherty was killed thirty minutes into his final battle with the English at Doon Rock, Kilmacrenan defending our clans lands from the english in 1609 i believe it was. he was shot in the head. I have in my posession a poem written about him, that i did not pen myself. would you care to read it?

weep, weep, the lost chieftain
the noble and brave
who in youth's early morn' has
gone down to the grave
weep, weep the young warrior,
whose prowess has thrown
a glory unfading o'er old Inishowen
in the battle the bravest,
the first in the fight,
his foes trembling fled from his sword
flashing bright
And his tall, waving plume
was a terror to all
From the borders of Dublin,
to dark Donegal

Wow.... that.... I have no words for that.

The only thing that I can truly say is that I'm speechless.

he was freshly twenty one when he led his rebellion and died in battle, after burning londonderry and beheading the english mayor

Nice, that is achieving a lot so early in life. At least he didn't go down without a fight either.

I would have to agree with Angelus, ren. It must make you feel good to know of your ancestors.

Aye it is, it gives me a feeling of being rooted in something. even though i have alot to live up to. My clan was known for being great warriors and our ancestral land for breeding hard, steely men. O'Dochartaighs always go down swinging.

I'm sorry Wolfsister is under the weather, and hope she feels better soon.

I'm not currently ill in anway, but wait a day or so....I'm sure someone will sneeze on me or sommwot ;)

I was in a car accident in my mispent youth and ripped out all the muscles in my lower back as we cartwheeled 8 times between the road we went flying off of and the raised rails that stopped us and couldn't walk for several weeks after as they healed. Muscles torn like that never really heal and it still locks up on me at times.

It was exactly one week after I'd moved out on my own.

Irish, I'm jealous that you have such a rich personal family history. My family hasn't got such a exciting personal history, tho we do have two bank robbers and a safecrack...but that's not poem worthy.

the only peom that I ever heard was one my grand mother taught me, I guess it as was made up after her parents got married, an Irishman and PA Dutch woman,

The Irish and Dutch put them together and they don't make much.

i also have a number of IRA members and general ne'er do wells. but thank you, it has taken me ten years to find out as much as i have about my family history, im glad it was so worth it. My back is onyl screwed up from being fat and fighting and doing stupid shit for no reason. Like when i jumped off the apple tree near my grandmothers house just to see how much it would hurt when i hit the ground.

yea i was a right prodigy i was
