Okay, everyone's got their talents. What're you the best at? (writing related or not, whichever!)

Dear Chickie,
I was going to post the same question, but ask what folks on here are good at and knowledgable about other than their work or writing.

As for me, I know quite a lot about:
Baseball
Numismatics
Aircraft
Pharmacology

Hmmm...... Not very feminine, are they. I know lots more about earned run averages and cholinesterase inhibitors than about cooking or babies.
MG

Very impressive list, MG = )

My boyfriend says I'm an expert on "true crime" (I love reading true crime and I love forensics stuff...and amazingly the facts about it actually stick to me!)

I'm also an expert thing-finder. If something's lost, I can find it.

I'm excellent at remembering unimportant stuff. I can tell you who England's last rugby one cap wonder was (Steve Hanley, 1 cap, 1 try vs Wales in 1997), which US state actually felt it necessary to have a law stating that it was illegal to detonate an atomic bomb (Ohio) and where the world's smallest nightclub is (The Miniscule of Sound in London, 2.4m by 16m by 1.8m).

I'm excellent at forgetting important things, like to buy rubbish bags, to phone the vets to make an appointment for my dog and what days I'm working this week.

Ironic isn't it?

The Earl

I don't think I'm an "expert" at anything, but I do a few things really well (judging by outside opinions mostly):

Reading, sewing/tailoring, drawing, painting and photography, visual design & composition, listening, parenting (judged by others predominantly), taking advantage of spurs of moments, and last but not least bitching and wh'oring.

I have a broad range of knowledge—more extensive in some subjects than others. They include: art history, music theory, drama, sewing, crocheting, politics, golf, tennis, movie trivia, the works of Jane Austin, contemporary romance, "Chick-lit," fiction in general, and bullshit (I only have my BS in this, but I'm working towards my doctorate).

Technically, this is ironic. It's not shit happens, but more of a case of something happens, but something else doesn't so the former is completely useless.

I'm good at being pedantic too.

The Earl

I'm easy, but it's very low irony (if that ;) )

pedantically, Pear

It's definitely not like rain on your wedding day.
Or a free ride, when you've already paid.
It's probably not like good advice, that you just can't take.

But who would have thought it figured?

Dear Earl,
That may be true insofar as it goes. Let us not lose sight, however, of the fact that shit very definitely DOES happen. On a regular basis, too.

I'm an expert at drawing, with hand or with mouse, and I've got the artwork to prove it!:)

I'm an expert at giving blow jobs.

I'm an expert at writing nice stories.

And I'm really, really good at making an impression of "stranded-whale-on-beach".;)

I'm sort of curious about this one...

I am very good at writing and running RPGs. My main strengths, which apply to both, are creating interesting characters and compelling storylines.

I make great Christmas cookies.

I'm good at various crafts, particularly in the medium of puffballs, pipe cleaners, and felt.

I have a natural empathy with animals (small mammals in particular, such as cats, squirrels, and rats).

We haven't heard from the physical types yet. Well, we know Earl is a rugger, but he'll outgrow that. Where are the mountain climbers, olympic gymnasts, alligator wrestlers, Channel swimmers, weight lifters, amateur sleuths, sumo wrestlers, pickpockets, mule skinners, Gran Prix drivers, etc.?
MG
Ps. Any golfers? It's the world's dumbest thing to talk about, I know. I did break eighty last week, though.

Good point MG. I kill the ball well in rugby. And you are right, shit does happen. Usually when I try to dye my hair blonde. :D

Dear Earl,
Believe me, there's nothing special about being a blonde. People never wonder whether brunettes' hair is their real color.

I make a habit of doing it every time I come home to my apartment, on the third floor, no elevator. I sort of Collapse, on my bed, and lie there like a... blob. Then I breathe as if I'm running out of air, which is actually what I AM doing, after walking those stairs.

Forgot about the physical. I studied classical ballet, beginning at 36, for about 6 years (twice-weekly private lessons from a master teacher), and do my barre still (though irregularly). I did not (nor do) have a dancer's body but studied mainly to learn about the physical technique. Madame K. said she would teach me ballet well enough that I would be able to teach it. She was right. I'm not interested in teaching children (no patience), but I haven't met an adult who wants to learn, so the secrets live in my muscle memory. (My turnout and extension have proven valuable in bed. ;) )

Re: oh, and i forgot

Don't read Terry Pratchett's books. All mime artists and folk singers are thrown into the scorpion pit.

I'm an expert Cake on the Head wearer and:

Fount of useless information
Purveyor of books no one wants to read
Collector of:
clockwork tin trains; folding cameras; Viewmaster (remember the reels of 7 stereo pictures?) and formerly of sewing machines, pre-war bicycles; and all sorts of toy trains - until I ran out of space.

Operator of machines IBM has junked years ago (1401 mainframe of early 1960s) and I still have my XT with its massive 20mb hard disk and 360K floppy floppies.
