"A place for writers and readers to socialize and discuss the craft of writing." [emphasis mine]

Everyone is free to post and respond as they wish but personally I'd like to see more posts and responses actually discussing writing and the related topic of submitting works to Literotica, rather than seemingly-endless threads where the same 2-5 people are doing nothing but telling each other how much the other person sucks and each of them trying to get in the last word/post.

A reminder that you can ignore whichever members you want to, for any reason that you want to. I recommend that over endless hate-filled responses. You are not obligated to participate in someone's online little soap opera.

Lastly -- and I struggle with this myself and I strive to be better -- when disagreeing with someone, don't make it personal. Most people here are good about that but not everyone. And if you really dislike another person, remember to ignore instead of respond.

For some time I thought twice about posting a thought not directly connected to writing, but it became clear that a lot of us look to AH not only to talk about writing, but to talk about virtually anything (but especially about things we wouldn't mention elsewhere) where we can count on smart people interested in discussion. So I don't think about it any more.

The ignore button is great for temporarily muting a spammer until the site can remove them. It's also, apparently, a god-send for those with egos like an overinflated balloon. Otherwise, it's typically a bad idea. Kind of like how sticking your fingers in your ears in grade school to indicate you weren't listening made you look like a fool twice. Once when you did it, and then again later when you didn't know what had been said.

A big thing to keep in mind is, nobody knows who you've ignored. So, if somebody, say me, was to say something inaccurate about somebody who had ignored them, say you, and that person didn't dispute what was said because they didn't even know it was said, other people are going to assume the statement was correct…

It will also leave gaps in threads started by other people, including yourself, so you'll be commenting in the blind. I get some good laughs from some of those comments, especially when they immediately follow a comment by somebody they've ignored, so their ignorance of what was already said is quite blatant.

Ignoring certain people is a generally good idea, but learn the active skill rather than using the inferior passive ability provided by the site.

Well, socialize is listed first in the purpose of this forum.

I thought the purpose of the AH was to organize pity parties about how unfair Lit is.
And that's always okay, its the people who call out pity parties and attention seeking antics that these posts are meant for, because obviously bad behavior is fine, pointing it out is the issue.

Because one such thread is always followed by one of these.

You guys should be writing.

Meows the cat who should also be writing.
I am nothing if not excellent at hypocrisy :) EDIT: also, I'm quite good at coming up with things (such as forum posting) to procrastinate from writing.

It's whatever we make it, but I do want to say that there are some threads that I've really appreciated lately. Good, wholesome threads about how to help people get their rocks off while reading quality erotic literature. Those threads will always generate less noise than the conflict-driven threads, but they are the ones that stay with us.

Hey,

Where have you been? New gig taking up your time?

"to socialize AND discuss the craft of writing."

To me the two are not mutually exclusive. We can talk about writing, sure. But we're not limited to ONLY talking about writing. And that leaves the forum open for all kinds of discussions.

Ah, but this is the internet, remember? Everyone here has an opinion and will damn well make sure everyone is aware of it. 🙄

Everyone is free to do a lot of things. Maybe you should think about that, hall monitor. You are free to express what you would personally like to see... and you did. You are free to lecture other adults, and you did. I'm free to respond, and I did. Look at us all enjoying freedom - ain't she great?

Do you know what I hate. I hate when Youtube interupts a [Cornflakes. Buy. Eat. Run out. Buy some more!] 13 minute music video twice to give you adverts, and justifies this by saying you need [My life has sucked, but now I'm going to tell you about this amazing way to turn your life around!] to pay to not get adverts... but if you do pay Youtube, who actually benefits from that?

Talking about, talking about writing, what are you are working on that you're not working on to play here?

I'm trying to edit a cheating husband to shared husband story, but I'm at the read aloud stage, so I can only work on it when I can put my headset on and not get in trouble for ignoring everybody else.

I'm also working on a longer sequel to one of my 750-word entries from this year, but it went, "Look! Squirrel!" So, now I have to decide if I want to keep chasing the squirrel or try to lure it back to where I thought the story was going.

There are others, but those are the two I'm most actively not working on.

I am currently taking a break from writing. A couple of days ago my non-erotic free verse La Braise went live. It's a nod to my favorite book, A Movable Feast by Hemingway. It took me 2 months to bring this free verse to life.
