He thought for a minute then looked up at her from under his hair. He had a boyish expression sitting their holding his expensive camera full of gadgets.
"You know, I'm not sure I want to encourage you to make-believe any more. I want to see the real you, I want you to be ... you."
Tom leant sideways on the bench, resting his shoulder against Sophia's bare arm so he could show her the camera display.
"You were virtually dancing in those spiked heels just then, lighter than air, joyful. Cheeky. It made me feel good to see you light up like that, but then I wondered if it was really you, or whether you were being someone else."
He looked at her sideways and raised his eyebrows. Then he gently offered her his hand to lead her off the bench and back inside.
