Epstein’s alleged pedophile ring first came to light in 2005 when Palm Beach police received a report that he had paid a 14-year-old girl to have sex with him, the Guardian reported in 2015. Detectives in Palm Beach identified five girls who claimed Epstein lured them into sex, and federal authorities would eventually identify 40 victims, the Daily Beast reported.

In 2008, Epstein secured what has since been criticized as a lenient plea deal. The U.S. government allowed him to plead guilty to just one count of soliciting prostitution from an underage girl. In the end, he served just 13 months of an 18-month jail sentence.

Despite Epstein’s conviction, Andrew was still willing to hang out with him, being spotted meeting with him in New York’s Central Park in 2011, the Guardian reported. Andrew’s friendship with Epstein reportedly went back to the 1990s.

Unsavory details began to emerge about Andrew’s three contacts with one of Epstein’s reported “sex slaves,” who identified herself in a 2011 Daily Mail interview as Virginia Roberts. As was revealed in the interview and in lawsuits and other court filings over the years, the contacts occurred in the early 2000s when Roberts was 17 years old, according to the Daily Mail and the Guardian.


“Epstein’s purposes in ‘lending’ (young girls) to such powerful people were to ingratiate himself with them for business, personal, political, and financial gain,” the document alleged, “as well as to obtain potential blackmail information.”
The Sacramento-born Roberts, now in her mid-30s, also told the Daily Mail that she was 15 when she was first swept up in Epstein’s world. Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort was the setting for her recruitment, she said.
