Junk Shop - it's Simon, as ever in a ring

The world would be a better place,

I've a sense of anticipation:

I have three virgins in the garden. And some four hundred males eager and waiting. Some warm still day soon, each of the three will choose to fly - fly really high. The fit ones of the four hundred will manage to keep up with her and, all being well, around eighteen will take their turn. Each one exploding his sperm load into her so energetically that ... he will die.

Each Queen will return to her hive looking quite different, magnificently engorged with seed. She will use that over the next three years or more, taking her place among her sisters: the queen honey bees, the most prolific progenitors the planet has ever known, laying more than a thousand eggs a day through the Spring and Summer. Quite something. In fact awesome. :)

The pic: a 'nucleus box' containing just three frames of brood including one 'queen cell' - taken out of an about-to-swarm hive. Here's the newly emerged young bees on their first flight, getting oriented. Has her ladyship emerged yet? likely not.

odd combination, tee shirt and good jacket; off? ok for shopping?

no, I think it works-- it's very 'you'! the color contrast is terrific. I don't think many men could pull off that look, but you have an eye for what looks good on you, and a great sense of style. Handsome as always, Simon.

and that sexy scruff is the icing on the cake. ;)

Cheers, Honey!

As you see I'm into honey big time just at present. My girls are going crazy with their foraging and I don't have enough equipment to build the hives for more storage space - sweet problems! :)

Hey Si
Sweet pics darlin. :rose:

Aren't you a man of many talents with your bee keeping. I could never do that. I am a little scared of bees. I am curious to know what you plan on doing with all of that honey....selling any of it or all for your family?

Hi my lovely Canadian gal! xx

This is the first big year with the bees, as it was winter 2014 that I undertook a beekeeping course. I was given a 'nucleus' - queen and mini-colony - of bees that March. Last summer was a 'swarming year' for bees in the North of England so I ended the season with four queens and their colonies all of which survived the winter, two of them strongly, two of them with a need to build up from critically low numbers by the end of April. But they've made it! Meanwhile the two strong colonies have both prepared new queens while their 'mother' queens are still excellent lay-ers so I have split them in two, therefore six hives now!

I have discovered that our neighbourhood is a 'bee heaven' in terms of the quantity of excellent forage - both pollen and nectar - so that they store far in excess honey than what they need. My estimation is that there is already 60 pounds of honey in the 'supers' - the part of the hive from which we harvest the honey - and the principal harvesting months are July to September!

So ... we will be selling!

Being scared of bees is good. They will sting in defense. The key is to be so gentle in managing the hives that they seem un-aware of the potential risk to them of their hive being opened up. The guy who ran the course I undertook does not wear gloves when working with bees. While he did not recommend that we follow his practice, he explained that he keeps his hands bare in order to constrain his pace and attitude when working with the bees; one rushed action squashing the ladies and he would be stung by scores of them - but he works carefully and respectfully and is not. This guy has inspired me!

Enough! I have a grand daughter who said to me "Grandad, you're a bee geek aren't you!"

Thanks, Honey! and for all your lovely posts on this thread ...

And, yes, other lovely gals and fun guys who have posted here, I've felt hugely affirmed and I've enjoyed this run.

But ... I'm retiring from Am Pics. Here's a final pic of me dressed for a crazy fundraiser thing we did. I hope it speaks of the fun-loving easy-going fella I hope I am. I'm staying with Lit, but differently. Basically, I'll participate in discussions about fulfilling sex and generous loving and that will be it.

Those who have posted here a few times or often times, I do thank you.
In fact I love you. Simon. xx
