The lights flashing inside the late-night club were beginning to bug me. I never could stand it - though whenever I found myself in a tight spot, I needed to find some relief... and there was something in the air or inside of me that simply made me want to party all night. I couldn't believe myself as I made my way outside and alone, at 11 PM at night. This, absolutely had to be, the worst thing that I have ever done in my life. It was so sneaky, so unfaithful, so dreadful - and yet, the very idea of it seemed attractive, somehow. "What, I'm not doing anything wrong." I tried to convince myself as I got my purse "He's out of town and I just want to party a bit, no big deal."
But of course, I should have known. I should have known that just a temporary feeling of anger could get my blood boiling so. This was a weakness of mine - the tendency of overreacting due to accumulating trivial manners. See - I was in a relationship with a man called Robert Lee. We were peer at school, both studying under criminology. We hit it off rather quickly, and been committed to each other for two years.
So then, why was I acting so? Simply put, because I was seriously at the bottom of his priorities on every opportunity. We'd miss out on planned dates, movies and much more, if some of his buddies would just drop a call over going to the bar or whatnot. Robert was also a very jealous type - so whenever he would go out, he would leave me behind. And yet, he didn't give me an ounce of space if I was to go out with some friends. So, you could imagine my distraught when he decided to go to Las Vegas at the very last minute, missing out on our anniversary which was due in two days.
Whether it was trivial or not, Robert and I had a huge fight and he left in a huff with a few of his buddies, leaving me behind without so much as a call before boarding his plane. I constantly checked my phone and saw nothing. So, I left in the midst of the night into Chicago's hottest night club. The night was young and I probably could get over this by morning.
But before I left, paranoid from the numerous urban legends of a young woman going out on her own, I figured that I should at least call somebody. Most of my girl friends were doing their own thing and couldn't be bothered... That's when I remembered one individual - Thomas. He was a very close friend of Robert's and, quite frankly, was the only one of his friends to have actually met me. So then - why was I hesitate to call him? Because he wanted me and made sure to let me know whenever his friend was not around. He'd make remarks on my slim figure, plump backside and massive chest. He'd make remarks over my long brown hair and green eyes...and on how Robert was incredibly lucky. Certainly, if he saw me now in my tight black blouse, jeans and high heels, he would go ecstatic.
Nevertheless, I bit my lower lip as I called him. Surprisingly, he picked up the phone rather quickly:
"Hey Thomas...um...are you free tonight?" I ask "I wanted to go by a club, if you wanna join in."
