One idea that came to mind to find a reason for us all to work together -- could alter the story a bit to go Legends of Tomorrow and have us travel through time or to other galaxies or universes. Granted, that kind of defeats the idea of "the next Justice League," but it seems not everyone is on board with that particular story goal anyway, lol. We could still have the Reach invasion, with the villain players being members of the Suicide Squad who have been ordered by Amanda Waller to help fight off the alien invaders. They obey partly because she'll blow up the devices in their heads if they don't, but also because they don't want their world controlled by the Reach.
In the story that starts off the RP, we could have a joint team of young heroes and Suicide Squad members who raid a Reach science vessel where they are working on a prototype wormhole generator to bring the rest of their fleet to Earth in a fraction of the time. Shit goes down, we enjoy an epic battle, the Reach scientists activate the wormhole generator out of desperation, it malfunctions, causes an explosion that ruptures the fabric of spacetime, we all get swallowed into the rift and wake up in some other location in space and/or time. Where exactly we end up is open for discussion, but it would force us all to work together to find a way back home.
We could end up in the distant past, amidst a land of jungles and dinosaurs, or flung into the distant future where Earth is a dead wasteland. Maybe an alternate Earth where Ben 10 lives or one populated by Marvel characters. Maybe a completely different universe altogether where nothing is the same. Maybe a galaxy far, far away where Jedi and Sith battle or another planet where magic flourished instead of technology, such as Nirn or Norrath or Krynn. Now I'm getting a little carried away, but the possibilities are endless.
Of course, I am still perfectly fine if we stick with the original Justice League: Next idea, but I see nearly half our writers not wanting to officially join the JL, so one of these other ideas might work better.
