Knuckleball (Closed)

"Why don't you show me what you like?" She asked "it's always nice to see what someone else thinks... I'll show you what I like some other time. Alright?" She asked tucking a few stands of hair behind her ear and letting go of his arm "lead the way..."

"I haven't seen much so far," he said as he led her to the next room over. "Putting me on the spot though I guess I would have two answers."
He turned to her and leaned against a display case. "If I was just another baseball player trying to hit on a cute girl I would say you are the best thing I seen in this whole building." Flashing a smile with a bit of flirt he pointed below him, "but since you maybe more impressed with brains than sports ... I liked these Native American pots with the story of a hunt painted on them."

"Please don't lean in the display cases..." She said pulling him away "what is going on with you? You're a mess. Please tell me this is just nerves or something...." She sighed letting go of him and taking a few steps away.

He gave a long sigh, and the smile dropped a bit. "Yeah, your right. Nerves." He thought about just leaving this place. He thought about how easy things were back in school. He thought about getting out of here and never coming back to this city. It probably showed on his face but he did his damnedest to not look pathetic in front of this beautiful creature next to him.
Thinking he couldn't hit a new low he just blurted, "sorry, I ... Well ... I used to be better than this. I just .. Can't .. Get anyone out anymore."

"You're trying to hard. That's all you're focused on." She said "there's more to the game then that, you need to just relax. Focus on throwing the ball to the catcher not striking out the batter..." Bella said smoothing a wrinkle out on her dress. "Don't worry about the end goal just enjoy getting there. Don't let it bother you if things don't go perfectly all the time..."

He scoffed, "easy for you to say. You're like a batter, see?" He turned away from her crossing his arms. "You don't have to swing, you could just foul me off, or ..." He shrugs and huffs a little. "Look at you. You are gorgeous, you don't have to be standing here and hanging with a guy who can't get a ball over the plate."

"Fine! If that's how you feel have a nice life." She said clearly very insulted by what he had said "goodbye Mr. Cooper, and goodluck." She said before walking up hoping he didn't see her trying not to cry.

Immediately he worse. He chased after her catching her on the front step luckily empty of people. "Wait, Bella, please!" He pleaded. "I don't know what I said back there. It's just that, well ... You're nice to me and beautiful and you got to be smart to work here so you obviously could do a lot better than hang with me is all." He sighed heavily. "I don't mean to be a ... Whatever I'm being right now. Not to you at least."

"Let go of me." She said pulling her arm away "I tried. I did my best but you don't want to listen. Maybe that's why you're doing so badly.. You don't care what others think. You're just some hot shot who's just passing through right? You know everything and you're too good for this place, you're too good for me? Right? Unfortunately I have to stay here tonight and clean or I would just go home."

He gave a long sigh and shook his head. "I'm sorry if I let you think that. It's not that I think I am too good, if anything I think I'm not good enough for ..." He stopped and ran his hand through the short hair in his head. "Let me stick around and help you clean up. Maybe you can show me around the museum, show me what you like here. I'd like to know that about you, what you like here."

"Alright..." She said "but you're doing all the cleaning... And I want you to listen to me. I try to help you and you blow up..." Bella sighed "we should probably get back in there... People should start leaving soon and you've got a lot of work to do."

"Alright," he agreed and followed her back in. He nodded to some of the other guys as they headed out. She was right, the crowd was beginning to thin. Sticking close to her as they moved into the museum he said somewhat enthusiastically, "where do I start?"

"Depends... Do you want to start with cleaning? Or something else?" She asked going to the front desk and getting the cleaning supplies "if its cleaning you can start with the display case you had been leaning on earlier..." She said holding the stuff out for him "if its something else may I suggest that you just kiss me already?"

After sweating out the last few minutes her suggestion took him by surprise. Luckily, he listened to her this time. He took the cleaning supplies from her hands, then circled around her waist with them. "I should probably wait to start cleaning until after everyone leaves anyway," he said with a smirk. He leaned in close to her, smelling the sweetness if her perfume. Tilting his head he let his lips find hers.

Bella kissed him back wrapping her arms around him "took you long enough..." She said pulling away from him "I haven't completely forgiven you for earlier though. It's going to take a little more then that..."

He couldn't stop smiling, or for that matter get the feeling of her off his lips. Good kisser, she was. He followed her out to the exhibits heading to where he leaned on what he said was the favorite. "I can't wait to see what you suggest before mopping the floors." He got right to work, a fair bit of spring in his step now. "When we are done tonight, do you have any plans?"

"The janitors will mop the floors when we leave.." She said "and no... I don't have plans. I was just going to go home..." Bella watched him as he cleaned making sure he didn't miss a spot "why do you ask? Did you have something planned?"

He was careful with the towel, stopping to check his work many times. He could hear the crowd quiet as they left. "I've got nowhere to be." He moved from display to display cleaning as he went. "I'd still like to know what your favorite part of the museum was to be honest."

"This..." She said pointing to a very old wedding gown in a case across the room "all we know I'd how old it is, but we haven't been able to figure out where it came from or who it belonged to or if it was even ever actually worn by a bride..." She sighed "it's just a big mystery... I've been trying to do research on it since I've been here..."

He stepped over next to her and looked in on the dress. It was quite nice, that he could tell. "Hope someone wore it. Seems too pretty. Like whomever planned to wear it put love into making it or choosing it or ..." He turned his head, to look at her dress still elegant in its emerald beauty. "If it was never worn it probably has a sad story to it, right?"

"Most likely..." She said "I wish I knew what the story behind it was. It could be as simple as the dress was never sold and just ended up here years later... I really don't know what happened. It's been bothering me, it's like it just showed up."

He put the cleaning supplies in one hand and slid the other around her waist as they looked in on the dress. "How long have you worked here, or worked with this dress." He just wanted to get closer to her and hoped she didn't mind, but there was something about that dress that intrigued him.

"I've been working here a year, since I graduated... I've been researching the dress for two years. I started as part of my senior project for school." She moved a little bit closer to him "what are you thinking?"

"I'm thinking," he said dropping the cleaning supplies on the floor and turning in front if her, "that you have a good eye for something worth your time. And I am thinking I still have work to do to make up with you." He leaned in to kiss her again.

"Yes you do..." She said letting him kiss her "how where you thinking about doing?how are you going to make it up to me?" She asked wrapping her arms around him.
