Last movie you watched

the heart is a lonely hunter

with Alan Arkin. Wonderful older movie. Humoresque. Girl on a bridge. Hairdresser's Husband....all wonderful

books and movies

Books are better than the movies made from them. There are exceptions I think; The Heart is a Lonely Hunter is one, To Kill a Mockingbird is another.

he's just not that into you...ok

public enemy/1931/Jimmy Cagney...just watched it on TCM...a classic.

That book (The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter) was wonderful.

Jinx, you owe me a soda, I was going to say the same thing!

The Changeling. I almost couldn't stand watching this because of the horrible way the Angelina Jolie character was treated by the police but it turned out to be a really good movie, good ending.

Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes...Hadn't seen it since it was in the theaters. If nothing else, the movie has some amazing make-up work by Rick Baker. However, I had forgotten who screwy the time traveling elements were and of course it does feature the ever wooden acting stylings of Marky-mark.

I've been playing the new Ghostbusters game lately, so I put the first movie on last night. That's my all time favorite movie!

Away We Go

Nicely done. Very likeable leads. An as usual hilarious turn from Allison Janey. Hampered by the indie quirkfest feel and an especially over the top episode involving Maggie Gyllenhall.

Some nice moments. Funny dialogue and generally entertaining.

Have to say I am by no means a movie snob. I LOVE huge movies. And they don't have to be smart or good. A few cool moments. Good dialogue. Nicely shot. Some interesting ideas. That's all I need. Doesn't all have to work.

But this summer I feel pummeled by the joyless mediocrity. It's one of those summers it seems ALL the sequels come out at once. Like 2 years ago when everything had a 3 behind it. Remakes. Or old tv shows redone.

I have been grateful for The Brothers Bloom, Away we go and my favorite Drag Me to Hell.

Looking forward to Moon.

Also on DVD, rewatching Shogun Assassin. Still kicks ass!

The Hangover..... has to be the funniest movie so far this year, and likely all year!
