Last movie you watched

Phantom of the Opera...a guilty pleasure movie, that guilty pleasure mainly being a delectable young Emmy Rossum.

Okay, a few I've seen recently:

Night At The Museum 2 (thanks LL!) - ***

Superbad - *** 1/2

Transformers - ***

Bridge To Terrabithia - ****

Up in 3D

It was good, but really, the saddest Pixar movie I've ever seen. It brought me to tears twice. Not something I want to do when watching a cartoon!

Dr. Horrible's Sing-along Blog. Ok, not really a movie, but it was the last DVD I've watched, Hilarious.

I guess I'm one of the few people on Lit who enjoy Clockwork Orange. The movie is sure as hell easier to enjoy than the book.

Hardly.

I'm sure that if you conducted a poll in the Author's Hangout, you'd find that a much larger swath of posters--if not most--consider it among their favorite films.

Thank You For Smoking ***½

This is a thoroughly entertaining satire, in which Aaron Eckhart masterfully rehashes the "In The Company Of Men" corporate douche-bag shtick that made him a minor celebrity. He received a lot of attention for this performance, but if you really want to see him shine, see a little indie-flick called "Conversations with Other Women." He is brilliant starring opposite the HBC.

Son of Rambow ***1/2

Very good, funny, and even sad at points. Quite a good movie. Enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian ½

What a steaming pile of shit. It's just embarrassingly awful.
Hank Azaria is particularly annoying as an Egyptian Pharaoh who--in a ill conceived homage to "The Mummy" (1932)--sounds like Boris Karloff. Amelia Earhart is equally annoying. However, the Jonas Douche-Bags take the cake with regard to things I hate about this horrid movie.

Star Trek: surprisingly good. Maybe it's because I expected it to be bad.

I felt the same way. All things considered--especially the exceptionally banal state of contemporary American pop culture--it could have been much worse.

The Last Days of Disco - a fave

An indie from the 90's starring Chloe Sevigny and Kate Beckinsale who are friends/coworkers spending their nights at club, loosely based on Studio 54.

That is a fabulous film. If you haven't already seen the other two movies in Stillman's Doomed Bourgeois In Love trilogy ("Metropolitan" and "Barcelona",) you'll likely enjoy them.

The Transporter 3.

I've got a thing for pointless ass kickin movies. It wasn't that good though
