Legends Begin

Tal Varsus shook his head, smiling at Hrothgar's question.

"Well, no," he answered, "I don't consort with such scum as these." Tal indicated the pirate corpse that Hrothgar had so neatly dispatched. "I had taken passage aboard a merchant ship bound for Bloodpool. See, some time ago, I contacted an old Elf named Boridor about an old inn he had for sale here. I reckoned on buying the inn, maybe making a tavern or something out of it. Long time coming, because I am weary of the labor of battle.

"But the merchant ship fell to attack by these pirates while I was sleeping. And, before I knew what was happening, I was bound and placed under spell, and taken aboard their vessel. Which reminds me, my weapons and armor were hidden away on the merchant ship. Might you have a smith nearby?"

Far outside the city of Bloodpool was the vast Iron sky Mountains which was said to cover half the known world.
Only a handful of Humans made they homes on the steps of the mountain and one such place was the Town of Nova point.
Sadly Nova point had been conquered by a Orc Warboss called Jankor Bloodside and had turn the town people into slaves to work in his ore mines.

Jankor Bloodside looked though the former lord mayor telescope at the outskirt of bloodpool suburb walls and smiled at the sight, pathetic pink skins and turn around to his bodyguard and low ranking lords of his tribe.

What did you see boss asked Klonter one of his loyalist followers.

Nothing interesting as usual he replied almost sarcastically back to him and grin his fangs as they looked disappointed.

Boss we been here for the last 8 moons and when do we march hissed sherman Yukunn.

Soon very soon as soon as we amass enough arms and troops to march on Bloodside replied Jankor and walked out of the ruin house with bodyguard.

And walked across the road as a large artillery gun past him and mounted his wyvern and flew into the sky.

The whole village was filled of orcs troops who where turning the town into a forward base for an massive attack on to bloodpool itself.
He still could not believe his own luck and victory would soon belong to him alone.

Hrothgar nodded at Tal's words. It seemed that all the pirates were either retreating, dead, or captured. Quite a short attack, all in all. Probably because they had next to no morale. Hrothgar put on a cheery face. "Well then, you're in luck Tal! We got three blacksmiths here, and you got the best guide in town right here" Looking back at the ships, a few pirates piled on board of one and left dock. "Of course, we also got 6 new ships with all their assorted cargo here too...." Several thaughts were running through Hrothgar's mind, most of them to do with how much loot there might be on those pirate ships

Now that the pirates were gone Seelky looked at the drunken wizard and the girl. well now that things are reletivly on the safe side again. My name is Seelky.. whats yours? she asked as she landed and walked with them rather than flying above them.

Tal looked out to the harbor. Yes, yes, the pirate ships. Perhaps his weapons and armor were among them somewhere?

"Hrothgar, my new friend, within one of those ships is a chest containing my personal belongings. And, within such, is a letter of draft to be deposited into my account with the holdings bank here. Unfortunately, for the pirates, the letter is useless without my magic...it would only appear to be a blank scroll," Tal said as he laughed. "If we could find these things, I can give you the reward I promised, and perhaps get my inn that I came for."

Tal looked at the flying Elf that had landed not far away. "You have a lot of magic here, Hrothgar. I think I am going to like Bloodpool."

If only Tal knew of what their future held........

Hrothgar grinned at Tal. "Hey, you're talkin' to the right guy! Feats of amazing dareing-do are my forte! And besides, these pirates don't need their ill-gotten gains any more! I say that, to the quick, goes the gold"

Standing, he helped Tal Varsus to his feet, and turned to regard the winged elf, drunken mage, and the armed woman who had just finished chasing a couple of the pirates back onto their ship (which was setting sail right now as fast as they could make it). "Hail friends!" Hrothgar eyed the womanand the winged elf 'enthusiastically' from his position. He whispered to Tal. "And some fine looking friends at that!"

He was about to step forward when the skies darkened. All to fast for a storm, and without any sound. It was as if the coulds just decided to congragate over the town.

"What in the seven hells...?"

A booming voice rang out over the town, seemingly coming from the darkened skies. "Hear me mortals! The days of science lay in the past, and the time of magic speeds toward it's apex! With this rise, a chalenge is thrown down! A trial awaits at Iron Mountain, and to all who pass, great magic power shall be bestowed apon! You have three days to decide apon your fate...."

And with that, the skies returned to their normal blue.

"Well if that's not an attention-grabber, I don't know what is!"

Little did the residents of Bloodpool know, but the challenge had been delivered to every village, town, city and fortress in the land.....

Rudy Roughknight was in the process of making shells for his weapon when he heard a booming voice make some sort of declaration. He sighed, and quickly gathered the shells he had made, infused with the energy his grandfather Zeppet had said was within all things. He had managed to make quite a few, mostly lead, but some combined with other, more interesting metals and powders. Most people shunned him when they found out he had the Forbidden Power known as ARM, but lately, people had seemed not to care. Especially in this town, where everything was busy. In fact, one of the local metalsmiths had taken an interest in the process he used to make the ammunition for the weapon.

He slid the shells into his belt, then slid the weapon into the holster attached to it, before sliding a sword into the sheath on the other side. He figured that booming voice meant trouble, which was fine by him. He had been a little lonely since parting with the few friends he had made.

Looks about at all my newfound allies.

"They call me Galen. Good to meet you. That was an interesting little skirmish, I hadn't been in a scrap in a while, and while I can't say precisely I enjoyed it, it is more fun to be on the winning side."

Looks at Seelky, "I don't know about the whole bestowing great magic thing, the last person to offer to bestow great magic on me, tried to kill me...course I probably shouldn't have been all snuggly with his daughter..."

Realizing he is drunkenly babbling

"Anyway, I might go to this Iron Mountain...just out of sheer boredom. Is that where you folk are headed to?"

Tal Varsus sighed, glancing to Hrothgar.

"Yep," he stated, "that's about as omnipresent as something gets I reckon." He shook his head. He knew they were about to embark to Iron Mountain. Such was the life of a battlemage, even if he professed to be retired.

"So whereabout is this Iron Mountain?"

Rudy walked out of the room he was staying in, and shrugged his backpack onto his shoulders. He walked down the stairs of the Inn, and then out the door, walking past some people who had heard the message as well. He pulled out a map as he reached the door, trying to see if Iron Mountain was within walking distance. He didn't notice one of the people gathered nearby watching his every movement.

"Iron Mountain? Well, I know that it's to the north-west of here. About a day's walk from start to finish. It's really big. Can't miss it! Size of a, uhhh, mountnain...." Hrothgar scratched his head. He'd never heard of a 'trial' or anything at Iron Mountain. All he had heard was that everyone who has so far journeyed into it's depths in search of treasure had dissappeared. Of course, now that they were being invited, he decided to keep the knowledge of such stories to himself.

Clearing his throat, he continued. "Well, of course we'll have to traven through Darkthorn Forrest. Not somewhere you tend to juist stroll through unmolested. Goblins live there, and in large numbers. Rumer has it, there's even been a few Orcs leading the blighters!"

Rudy stopped, hearing someone talking about the Mountain, and listened. With the location of the mountain now in his mind, he looked at the map, finally spotting it. He nodded to himself, using a small pen to mark it, and then stepped out the door, intending to find it, and hopefully stop whatever evil lurked there. He pulled his cloak around himself, hiding his weapons, to keep people from panicking at the sight of them.

Jankor Bloodside kick the Goblin warboss to the floor and picked him up to head level, So Baz you think paying me no tribute is smart idea do you.
Well I have got a little job for you and your boyz and throw him to the floor.

What is it that you want me to do boss hissed Baz eagerly?.

They is a fortified tavern through Darkthorn Forest and I am sick and tried of those pink skins going in my woods without asking my kind permission said Jankor sarcastically and I want you and your boyz to go with Klonter and his troops while he take care of business.

Sure boss any you say boss replied Baz as he run out of Jankor hut.

OOC: Be warned I have a response to every post I've missed bellow. As such it's quite long. Hun1918, I didn't respond to your of coarse. The end of the recap is marked.

IC: The winged elf landed gracefully, apparently happy with the results. 'My name is Seelky, what's yours?' "Slsun" My companion then gave his name. I looked out to the sea, a smile came to my face when I saw numerous retreating ships. "I think we might of just won the battle."

I heard rustling and whispering a few feet behind me. "Crap more pirates." I reached into my shirt and pulled out my dagger, I brought it for protection and thus far had plenty of chance to use it but not the wits of mind. I turned to see a wounded traveler and a suspicious looking figure. Both clearly not pirates.

'Hail friends!' I waved feeling it was proper, my mistake since the same person stared at me eyes moving up and then down and proceeded to do the same with the elf. Then he whispered in the ear of his companion. I stepped closer to the drunk, just in case they were pirates. Thats when the wind picked up and the sky went blank. The suspicious man then said what the rest of us must of been thinking. 'What in the seven hells?'

Just as he finished the sky spoke in clear loud voice challenging the town to travel to the iron mountain and accomplish some strange goal under the promise of rewards. I felt that my mind might of snapped but the others seemed to here it too.

My companion decided to continue the formalities. 'They call me Galen. Good to meet you. That was an interesting little skirmish, I hadn't been in a scrap in a while, and while I can't say precisely I enjoyed it, it is more fun to be on the winning side.' I nodded at the truth behind it. I was happy to be alive.

He turned to Seelky, 'I don't know about the whole bestowing great magic thing, the last person to offer to bestow great magic on me, tried to kill me...course I probably shouldn't have been all snuggly with his daughter...' My eyes opened shocked by the drunken honesty and I found myself stepping away.

Noticing my actions he changed his tone and speech. 'Anyway, I might go to this Iron Mountain...just out of sheer boredom. Is that where you folk are headed to?'

The quiet newcomer glanced at his loud companion and sighed.

'Yep,' he stated, 'that's about as omnipresent as something gets I reckon.' He shook his head and paused. 'So whereabout is this Iron Mountain?' I thought to myself briefly, well I haven't been there have I? Still it's passed Darkthorn Forrest, and I've done some digging there before.

'Iron Mountain?' The loud newcomer spoke again. 'Well, I know that it's to the north-west of here. About a day's walk from start to finish. It's really big. Can't miss it! Size of a, uhhh, mountnain....' He scratched his head, and I knew he wasn't to bright. He then cleared his throat and continued. 'Well, of course we'll have to travel through Darkthorn Forrest.' I smiled to myself, I thought so. 'Not somewhere you tend to just stroll through unmolested. Goblins live there, and in large numbers. Rumor has it, there's even been a few Orcs leading the blighters!'

....end recap....

"Wait a minute I was there no more then 4 years ago you give them a few gold coins and maybe some food and they leave you alone." My memory was slightly sketchy on the details, but I was semi confident in my statement. "I am sure they'll only be the slightest nuisance unless a lot has changed in four years."

I looked around the group, I knew the drunks name was Galen and the elf's name began with an S. "And if I am going to do anything with you, I am going to need a peace of paper and a quill to write down every ones name."

Hrothgar grinned at the woman. Obviously she had done some traveling in her time, but alot could change in four years. Confident that Tal could stand on his own, Hrothgar removed his handy backpack and placed it on the ground, opening it, and started to summage through. "Hmmm...let's see there.... light gem..no.... broken wand..no.... rabbit foot..no.... trolls ear..no.... ah! Here it is!" He proudly produced a sheet of parchment, quill, and small ink block. "Oh, the name's Hrothgar, by the way. And this is Tal Varsus"

Rudy stopped, and realized he should take at least some medicine with him. He turned back to the tavern, which had an item shop in its lobby, and walked back in. He shrugged his cloak's hood back down, and walked up to the clerk, asking quietly for some herbs and other medicines, before looking at the adventurers planning a raid on the mountain. He took his medicine, and placed it in a pouch, then walked over to them, and cleared his throat.

Warboss Baz scouts reported a group of people arriving to the tavern; good mean more loot he said to his troops who all grinned at the thought.
The plan seem simple enough he thought to himself with him and his boyz attacking the tavern.
And making a false retreat into woods and making sure the tavern defender follow him and his boyz while Klonter and his orcs break in at the back of the tavern.

All right boyz attack he screamed as his goblin fired a volley arrows and rushed toward the tavern gates.

Rudy blinked, hearing a shouted order outside, and shrugged off his cloak in a heartbeat. He reached for the sword at his waist, drawing it quickly, before sliding Grandheim out of its holster. He ignored the looks he got from the people in the tavern, as he stepped out the door slowly, chambering a round. He saw goblins and what looked like an orc or two charging them. He slowly slipped into the deadly calm that was required to bring out the fullest power of the weapon in his hand, even as the goblins swarmed closer.

A goblin with a war axe tryed to strike Rudy as he neared him, Warboss Baz saw Rudy and told his boyz to kill him.
Kill that pink skin screamed Warboss Baz and follow me as he walked forward toward the tavern.
Other of his boyz run forward armed with swords and spears.

Rudy moved fast, deflecting sword blades and spears with his sword, then firing a single shell with a roar like thunder, which arced into the air and exploded on contact with one of the goblins, vaporizing him. He hoped that would scare them, otherwise he'd have to kill them all. He didn't count on it, of course, and was already slashing with the sword, and chambering another round. Grandheim had a max capacity of 4 rounds, but he didn't think it would take all of them.

Baz watch as one of his soldier was hit by Rudy weapon and knew he and his boyz where no match for him and he called a retreat, hey boyz back to the wood he shouted and run.

He rushed behind a tree and looked back and knew right then he wanted that weapon for himself.
"With that weapon i could rule the tribe and even become a warlord of the orcs as well he said to himself".

Well i see how Klonter and his boyz act before i make it back to da boss and began to look for his boyz.

Rudy saw them retreating, and breathed a sigh of relief. He opened the chamber, and placed a round in the empty slot. He then closed the chamber and holstered the weapon, before sheathing the sword and walking slowly back into the tavern. He pushed open the door and saw that no one who had actually gone outside, but they had heard the noise and were clustered around the windows.

Meanwhile a large group of orcs smash though the backdoor of the tavern and started to quickly rushed into the courtyard and caught everyone by surprise.
Take those pink skins as slaves shouted Klonter and smash a human head in with his fist.
A woman scream as her husband was murdered before her eyes but was knocked down by an orc in chain mail hood.

There wa a ruccus brewing in the town again. Hrothgar could hear the screams of people coming from down the street, mixed with the grunts of greenskins. Oh great. Just marvellous. We fand off a large group of pirates, and now the local goblins decide they want a raid. Fantastic." He chuckled as he set off down the street. "Of course, this will make a brilliant song!"

IC: I was watching the sky and admiring the parting clouds as the magic seem to fade away. It was dusk and the colors were showing threw in rays of red and gold. The see how ever remained its unnatural red color, suggesting the pirate attack wasn't just an illusion.

There was another clash of lighting fallowed by screaming and other assorted noises. Perhaps the pirates weren't gone. Hrothgar moved to the edge of the roof investigating the terrain. 'Oh great. Just marvelous. We fend off a large group of pirates, and now the local goblins decide they want a raid. Fantastic.'

I moved over to the edge to see the kind of trouble I was in. 'Of course, this will make a brilliant song!' I turned to the outgoing rouge. "Is that your occupation? Oh and I guess I owe you an apology, the goblins do attack humans." I considered my position in current events, since I wasn't much of a fighter things didn't seem good.
