Let’s have dinner!

Seems like everyone enjoys their chili, whether it's cold outside or not.

Topped with cheese or sour cream, chips or 'cado? maybe you're a plain Jane? What are your chili accompaniments?

I'm a texture girl, so I do crushed up chips, pickled onion, and probably crema over cheese.

I really like cornbread on the side, too. Jalapeno cheddar corn bread. OR jalapeno cheddar popovers if I am feeling fancy and have time (so, never).

I used to do topped with sour cream and avocado. But lately I’ve been getting into finely shredded cheese that melts instantly and gets all gooey. Yum! Now I want some chili.

Since no one likes topping chili, I guess we'll move on to nostalgia

Is there a food from childhood that, when you eat it now as an adult, it transforms you back in time?

Sheep ramano cheese and a buttered rice cake or two. Sometimes on rice.

Haha YES.
As a kid we would eat these.. potato shapes in the shape of letters of the alphabet? They were called Alphabites. They still make them! I had some last year (maybe?) and i was right back to nine years old.

Though this time I didn't use the letters to spell out rude words.

I remember chicken alphabet soup!

Let's get something spicy going on here.

Are you a heat seeker? I don't mean spice, I mean spicy. Do you like to test the limits of spicy/hot food, or are you a wuss? What is your favorite spicy food?

I love spicy food, but as I get older, my ability to tolerate them has decreased, unfortunately. I like spicy food where the heat isn't the main flavor, and the type of heat I like differs.

I love zhoug on my jachnun. I love spicy indian curry (but that's definitely one I can't handle as well these days). Spicy Chilaquiles for brunch. Chili oil on dumplings. All yummy. And I love growing all types of peppers in my garden.

I like spicy food, but not when it’s just painful and doesn’t taste like anything. I need a flavorful hot sauce. My go to is good old Sriracha, which isn’t even very hot but I like the tanginess.

I just cooked for myself some spicy chicken sandwiches, they're made from ground chicken, which is not my preference but it is relatively cheap.

I also diced some red peppers and sliced some cucumbers and there's plenty of black pepper, chicken-themed mixed spice seasoning, and some cayenne.

Not enough to burn, but every bite from start to finish will be warm to hot. Not too hot, but quite flavorful.

I find this makes up for the fact that it is ground chicken, when I prefer sliced chicken breast meat, cut thin and in the general shape and width of a burger bun.

I make those whenever I have a package of just raw chicken breasts, and I do enjoy to make them into shake and bake chicken. I love flavorful breadcrumbs on the outside.

Myself, I don't mind mild heat, but I don't want the heat to block or overshadow the flavor of what I am eating. Maybe that makes me a wuss. I don't love having my lips burning for 20 minutes after I've finished a meal. I usually ask for a 2 on a scale of 1 to 5 if you are talking about Thai or Indian.

I like variety and flavor. As for favorites... too many. I like a lot of "ethnic" food like Thai, Indian (all kinds), Korean, some Chinese, some Indonesian, but also middle eastern (including North African), Italian, Greek, and French. I've also enjoyed Latin American food- Caribbean, Mexican, Colombian, and Brazilian. I loved the food in Iraq when I was there.

I've cooked various things from almost all those cuisines. Some recipes more Americanized than others. Sometimes had to make a stop at ethic food market to find the right ingredients. I also like to grill or smoke various foods.

I love the magic of a quality spice rack. For example...I got couple chicken breasts sliced up soaking in a can coconut milk with black pepper, cumin, and turmeric. I will let it marinate for 2 days in the fridge. I will make a stir fry from it. Not sure what...but something I whip up. It won't be a curry even though I love a curry. I just like the texture of the meat that marinates in coconut milk. Might be a tomato beef but with chicken?

Now...do i like hot spicy food? Yes. But I stop at sweating heat. I don't like holy fuck that's burns hot

My chuck roast is smelling good. Simpler the better. Seared it in bacon grease in cast iron. Transferred it to a roaster with celery, carrots and onions...and about 1.5 cups broth made from the jar of goo. Not sure what it is called? Not buillion...but similar. Added taters...both sweet and russet and tossed in a parsnip for flavor. My stomach is rumbling. Cooked slow and low....can I wait another hour?

It's superbowl sunday here in the states! An event where we watch commercials on purpose, pretend we know what Bad Bunny is saying (he's a mumbler!), and root against the Patriots and their pedo associated owner.

What is your favorite sports viewing food? Do you go all out when there are big games on?

Damn near anything with a kiss of habanero. Makes iffy nursing home food palatable. That's as far as I go with heat.
