Let's talk Ryder Cup, shall we?

WooHoo!....erm...excuse me!

What an brilliant performance in the after noon foursomes.

But i think the key was that point in the morning from howell and cacey, set us up for the foursomes.

Only 3 1/2 points needed....I can hear that fat lady warming up her vocal cords. :D

Aren't you good! I am waiting for my father to call - "Mr. Doom and Gloom" we call him.
I have to say that "doom and gloom" is a realistic assessment of the situation. It could well be that the decision will be made before half the matches have been concluded. The American side will have to win 9 1/2 points in order to steal the cup and that is asking more of this team than the '99 team was able to produce at Brookline. As much as I would like to remain the optimist, I doubt if it can be done.

How great was that? ! (Ugh) I really do admire the team cohesiveness the "Euros" show, wish it would rub off on us.

Great day for Team Europe.

Cat it would be my honour to rub off on you.....blimey that sounds disgusting!

But one has to agree, the europeans help each other out, lining up putts etc, where as the "yanks" seem to go it alone.

You've got a tough task tomorrow.

*I* don't have a tough task - they do. Damn near impossible and that is being generous. It is too bad, kind of takes the fun out of Sunday but I'll watch anyway.

The rubbing part isn't so disgusting! ;)

Wanderer, I'm going to ride along with your prediction chart and post my own as well (which may be every bit as futile as the U. S. team's effort to regain the cup, but what the heck).

USA win the day 7 pts to 5 but Europe win the Ryder Cup 16 to 12 Kisso sees the American team earning 8 of the 12 points, with the European team retaining the cup

Morning all, and what a beautiful morning too. :D

3 1/2 points needed from 12...i think thats do-able.

Kisso, i know what you mena about being Hal Suttons shoes. Why did he drop Riley for the foursomes, him and woods played really well together, i'd have kept them together.

As for todays singles, i like the way langer's spread the experienced players throughout the matches, and we still have a strong first six going out.

Admiral, my practical side tells me that you, Wanderer, Cate, and I could all be playing for the European side today and the team would still retain the cup.

The story I heard was that Riley told Sutton he was too tired to go back out (keeping in mind that he has a two-week old baby at home and may have been keeping some odd hours). Sutton's reply (referring to his own actions at Brookline) was that if a 42 year old fat man could play five matches then a 30 year old flat belly could do it. In reply, Riley said he'd go out if Sutton really wanted him to do so. I was very disappointed to hear that of Riley. It's perhaps very honest but still disappointing.

But surely you've gotta play your best, no matter what excuse they come up with.

Do you think woods or mickleson are really suited to player ryder cup golf?

That is a real conundrum. I wonder if the pressure of playing for one's country and playing as part of a team is simply something they have never adapted to. Even when each was a member of a college team, the game was a stroke-play game and they were focused on producing their own lowest score. Certainly each man has been superbly adapted to pushing himself to great heights - perhaps somewhat more so than any of the other team members - and they may not be able to adjust their mindset to be a full partner in a team event like the alternate shot matches.

That said, it still strikes me as odd that neither Woods nor Mickelson has a good record in the four-ball matches. It is definitely a puzzlement.

They were saying on the commentary last night that Mickleson had lost 9 consecutive matches, in both ryder and presidents cups, until last nights win.

But they were also saying that woods and mickleson just don't get along anyway, which makes it seem even more strange to pair them together.

Lights up one of Clarkes Cuban cigars :D
