Letters of Love—Official Support Thread

I'm very interested in this challenge and submitted one that got sent back because it's too short. #4 above: "Any length you like" apparently has to be at least 750 words? Mine was a bit under 500, too short for a story, but I thought it would fit here. Ideas?
A long P.S.

Would it be possible to enter the letter I'm going to submit in next year's Valentine's Day contest?

If so, how?

Theoretically you could, but it won't be published until January.

All RIghty! I submitted one early! I got my Letters of Love story submitted:

My Very Dear Cô Dâu

In the next week the Letters and Transcripts page won’t know what hit it. There’s still a couple of stories published in 2021 at the bottom of the New Erotic Letters section.

Great challenge idea, I'm in! The guidance you gave is that it needs to be characters from other stories I've written but the issue is the story has only just started rolling now (What We Say In The Dark) and we aren't going to get to these characters or their backstory for a while. If anything, the letter is a prequel and a foreshadowing to action that will roll out November time.

All good?

So a submission question relating to rule No. 3:

3. An introduction needs to indicate which story (or stories) the character appeared in.

It would be handy for readers to have a link to the antecedent story, but Lit doesn't usually handle <a href="url"> tags well (they get kicked back or submission is otherwise compromised).

Any suggestions on how to do a link to the story mentioned? Put the url in the notes field for admin to include?)

Advice cheerfully accepted.

Yes, and in the prologue. I've done that when a story flows on from a previous one. Just copy/paste the story link - Something like:

This letter comes from Cathy in my "Cathy & Karate" story (https://literotica.com/s/cathy-and-karate-the-beginning)

Laurel usually tidies it up to look like:

This letter comes from Cathy in my Cathy & Karate story

Lit can easily handle links to a published story.

Here's the code to use:

<a href="https://www.literotica.com/s/uncovering-quinn">Uncovering Quinn</a>

Substitute your own story link (copy paste from the first story page), insert your own story name.

Add a note, so Laurel knows there's a link to another Lit story.

ElectricBlue, thanks for providing that HTML code. I've inserted a link in my story and added a note to Laurel.

Since I have another story in the queue and since I'm really busy with work, I'm going to wait a bit before submitting this one to spread readers' "viewing opportunities" out a little.

Just had mine rejected for being either too short = 763 word count (including the introduction - is that a problem when it's part of the story submission) or maybe the moderator thought, when I included this line in the Introduction "I didn't publish it at the time out of respect to Kay's privacy, but she told me she's happy for it to be reproduced here." and then got this slap on the hands
  • All work must be submitted by the person who created it, as that is the only person who can absolutely verify that they are the author. Please have the work's author sign up & submit the story under their account.
which would be pretty laughable and quite flattering if they actually thought Kay had written it and I wasn't the author.

Either way, fuck it - not worth the time

stickygirl, resubmit with a short explanation to Laurel in the unpublished notes at the bottom that Kay is the character in the story, that you're the author, and that you were making it seem more real. It will probably go through then.

Sticky, the vetting reader has not realised both characters are fictional. Just remove the second sentence and resubmit, with a Note to the Editor. But make sure the whole submission text, including the introductory note, is at least 750 words. They're not going to do an exact count (not like you know who ;)).

Cheers. Imagine that - a fictional character. Why would a real person be writing a letter to a fictional one? If they sincerely believe someone else wrote it then removing the sentence won't work because they'll say 'removing a sentence doesn't prove you're the author'. It's kinda Twilight Zone... actually food for thought plot wise. Remember when Hannah deleted herself from the computer?

Anyway, I feel like I've had my skirt measured by some old Matron who'll say 'pulling the waistline down doesn't count - you've got too much leg showing above your hussy knees'.

Well yes, your hussy knees are one thing, getting smut published is quite another. I'm sure Laurel will sheepishly say, "Oops, of course she's writing fiction, what am I thinking?" and we can all read the controversial letter.

This reminds me of that old Two Ronnies gag. "Pardon me, but is your slip showing? I'm sorry, I meant, is your ship slowing?" As the captain said to the sailor.

It's not controversial, it's sweet and wistful and certainly not smut. There's only one reference I included for sake of the audience. The only Ronnie's gag I know is the one about Four Candles

I’m sorry to hear this, Sticky, and your experience led me to rewrite some of my introduction so it sounded less like I was introducing a real life person, even if creating believable real life characters is what the exercise is all about. I encourage you to try again though :)

Thanks ff and I'm glad if my experience helped. I'll get around to it, but I kinda go off at the deep end when I'm frustrated by nonsensical responses... :)

While originally planning to wait until next week to submit, impatience got the better of me and I submitted "I'll Finish This Tomorrow" earlier today. Thanks to Smuttyandfun for the Beta read on it.

EDIT: It's scheduled for release tomorrow, 9/8/22. Thanks, Laurel!

Update, September 10: Based on a quick count, it looks like we're currently up to 25 letters in the Letters of Love challenge. Keep those letters coming!

Yeah, my letter went nowhere. IRL it would have been a hard letter to write. It wasn't a letter of love per se. I'll keep chewing over it.
