Letters of Love—Official Support Thread

Is it possible to start something and get it finished in fifteen days? I have the germ of a plot, and two letters written as preamble, but as yet, no joining up of the erotica dots. Except in my head...

I'm pretty sure you can do it, EB. I wasn't feeling the letter thing until I started, then wrote it in no time. I probably spent more time proof reading and editing than writing!

It took me a long time, but I finally came up with a story concept for this event. I'm going to give it a try. I've stalled on some other projects so I might as well shift gears. The hitch was the requirement that it has to be related to a previous story. I finally figured out a story/letter idea based on my Unwitting Porn Star Wife story. It's got a Loving Wives vibe but hopefully since it will get published in the Letters category not too many knives will be drawn. I've got a good idea for a twist at the end of the letter. 14 days to go. That should be plenty of time.

I just submitted my second entry.

My first entry was written in about a day, including editing. I probably should've taken some more time with it. This one took about two days, but I've been sitting on whether or not to submit it. Finally decided "Fuck it, What've I got to lose?"
My thinking too. I've had an idea in my head for ages then an evening free so my second is submitted. I hope it'll read okay and I'm not using the event to dump thoughts!
I think other topics are valid and will make strong reads, but there's a clue in the challenge's title.

My first entry was a letter from a self-destructive woman to a friend and lover who killed himself when they were both 19.

I think heavy letters can fit the theme, especially the hard to write ones.
True. I'd like to finish it, but it is a hard thing to write. I definitely need to be in the right mood to work on it. Late on a dark, gloomy night after a couple of Scotches.

I'm glad I took this on. Mine is about three-fourths done. It's been interesting and enjoyable writing in a different format.

I agree. I've done a few epistolary stories in journal format over the years and have included brief letters in stories but a letter as a story all to itself harkens back to my pen pal and long-distance romance (well, an attempt at that anyway) days. I'm about 500 words into a second letter that may be done before the deadline but upcoming work deadlines are taking all of my usual writing time at the moment. We'll see....

What's the submission deadline for this event? I know it's today, but what time/time zone? I'm close, but if it's 9 pm PDT I'm not sure I'm going to make it.

I believe it's east coat USA, but I'm pretty sure if you're an hour or so late Laurel will take pity on you. If you plead nicely. :D

No, can't be done.

I've got two thousand words worth of letter exchanges, and I've only just got to the erotic premise - typical EB slow burn.

The writer's trick for me, though, is to move from a genuine exchange with a long ago school friend who contacted me when my mum died, and I in turn contacted her when my family scattered our parents' ashes - at the beach village that turns up in many of my stories, which is the next town up the coast from where the friend now lives.

So, sex and death and decades old longing. How can I keep that short?

Oh well. If it was midnight EDT then I'm too late. It's too bad because I was almost 6,000 words into it, but I don't want to rush the ending.

Thanks to everyone who participated or even thought of participating! Sorry I haven’t been around much- you know that life thing that people go on about?

It’s been great to see some new blood in the L&T category, even if it may not have translated over to extra reads!

I’ll probably do this again next year! When I set for stories to start on 1/9, I didn’t realise that that is actually International Letter Day with today being International Love Letter Day. I didn’t send my other half a love letter, but I sent him a text asking him to pick up chocolate, so I’m saying that counts ;-)
