Literotica Forum Update: Share Your Feedback, Issues & Requests

^^^ ... vvv

The issue with the photo thumbnails showing for unregistered users should be resolved now. Please let me know if you see any attachment thumbnails that are still being shown to unregistered users.

The XenForo share button does the exact same thing as the previous "Email this Page" share button on the vBulletin forum that has been here for over a decade. It doesn't share any information other than a link to a post or thread, just like the one on vBulletin did. It's the same as copying and pasting a link from your browser into a Tweet, for example.

There is never any content loaded to or from any social media site unless someone decides to click one of the icons to open that site in another browser window to share a link. We could consider removing some of the sites listed (who doesn't hate FB these days), but the link feature is what has always allowed Lit authors and others to link to specific threads and posts easily. We can't remove the ability to link to posts/threads since many of them are resources for authors, etc.

Thanks for the continued feedback and reports! :)
It's 2022, "We didn't know" is no longer a valid defence. What is your position on the misuse of the share function and any malicious sharing of posts, outside of your author reference sharing?

Avatar edit interface appears to be broken. It will let you go through the motions to recrop, delete, and upload, but it seems to not update anything.

I’m not going to read through this thread so forgive me if this has already been highlighted.

Overall I love the new interface, it’s a vast improvement over the clunky old site. I have just one reservation.

There are “share” icons everywhere. I’m concerned, given that there is an unacceptable level of harassment of female posters on here, that these share buttons could be used to push images meant for lit users into the wild.
What safeguards are there that this can’t happen whilst protecting posters right to post content?

Manu is right and wrong. If the ONLY share option that existed was the email envelope showing on the far right of the string of icon choices this would be exactly the same functionality. The extra steps necessary for someone to hit the share, copy the link, open up another app, paste the link and then post would be an impediment to many folks to sharing a link because these days many people are lazy.

The other impediment would be changing the icon. If it was an Envelope rather than the globally recognized Share button people would also be less likely to use the feature for nefarious reasons and the authors on the story side (who by definition are not lazy or they wouldn't take the time to write stories) would still have an avenue to share their creations relatively easily.

There is a middle ground for many of the concerns and desires of the owners and Forum members. We don't have to think in a binary fashion. We just need to have constructive dialogue and try to find the win-win options instead of the win-lose most people are taught.

Cheers

P.S. This is what the Share button produces https://forum.literotica.com/thread...eedback-issues-requests.1561552/post-94809220. A link to a post. No direct copying of images or words.

Cannot login. Used new password, old passwords, nothing works. Cannot get a password reset sent to my email.

Tried to set up a new user name to report the issue, won’t activate from my email address.

Had to use another email address to set up this account.

Several members are locked out.

What gives?

Virtually every other site of a similar nature is on XenForo, so I'm used to it and find it has many good features. It's been pointed out that there is a similar feature by another name on vBulletin.

Look, posting a pic of yourself on a public forum and expecting it to be private is just unrealistic. Even with no share function, someone can copy and paste. Even PM, texts and emails are risky, unless you know the recipient very well and even then...

I don't know if the share function can be disabled, but I would have no objection to doing so if it can be done. But overall, XenForo has some very good functions including "likes" for posts and alerts for new posts in threads you follow.

Like some here, I am not able to replace my AV photo. I’ve tried and it keeps going back to the original one, which is not centered. I’ve deleted the original to bring in a new one but the original keeps showing up. The new one showed up correctly on the main story board but is now askew and the old one still is shown on the bulletin board. Thanks.

XF is leaps and bounds better than VB is every way. I didn't like it at first when it started appearing a year or two back, but by now most of the major forums have converted.

Privacy is common sense.

I'm sure the button/link could be easily removed, but then there would be complaints about it disappearing.

THIS is a MAJOR Flub that needs to be resolved though. We can't have this at all.

You should be able to click on the thread title. First time you do so, you may have to click 'go to new' towards the top right, but you shouldn't have to after that.
That works if you are looking at a thread directly. However, if you're viewing a thread from your Watch list, there's no option to Go to New. Even if you go to the end of the thread "manually," you still have to start over if you come back later through your Watch list. At least that's what I can tell. Am I missing something?

Confirming this bug. Mine won't change. Browse, select new file, nothing happens, shows 'No file selected'.

It used to be possible to create tables in posts using vB code. An example is here. Now the table isn't rendered correctly, even when I try to use the classic viewer. It looks like there is a new table facility, but it's a shame that tables in old posts are no longer shown correctly.

I haven't seen that. Every thread I've 'set' so far with the Jump to New has stuck and I can then go directly to unread posts when I click the thread title. Not only here, but on the other several XF boards I frequent.

Maybe we need to start posting our specs:

I'm on Windows 7, using the SeaMonkey browser.

That's got to be a coding thing. @Manu, this one's for you. Well above my pay grade.

I couldn't log in until late last night. Apparently the new system couldn't accept my old password because it had a + in it. It didn't seem to accept capital letters either. It took me all day to figure that out. So my new pm is a string of numbers and a few letters.

My main question is was there any warning about this huge forum change on the boards, or did I miss it? I'm still yrying to figure out how to read threads without my eyes crossing.

I agree that it’s better and I agree that content could have been shared before. It’s just easier to do now

Editing on the Story/Main side now displays over here.
Once again you are incorrect or only partially correct.

Not all the entries of members in the Main Literotica Profile are displayed over here to the Forums profile but just a few select ones.

Also, the words that a member writes in the Biography of their Main Literotica Profile are not displayed here at all and they often contain the more important information about them.

You find it very difficult to face the fact that you are fallible misogynist who often make errors but you do not have the decency to admit it.

Windows 10. I've used both Edge 98.0.1108.56 and Firefox 97.01. Problem happens with both browsers when viewing Watched threads: there's no Jump to New button.

In fact, the new table facility doesn't seem to work for me either.

It would be great to get this fixed, because it was always a real pain to enter the code by hand.

Perhaps you're talking about another area?

I just did some testing and I see that in some cases, but not all. Not sure what the difference is, but I'll just attribute it to growing pains of the database for now. It should work itself out eventually.

If I take Manu's counter argument of the writers need the function to reference their works in social media then the obvious answer is to make the share function available to only your own posts. If you wish to tweet your own posts then knock yourself out, but you have no right to tweet other people's posts. Presumably settings can also be forum specific so you can argue for it to be active on writing forums and deactivated on ampics playground and the likes if you want to safeguard further than post ownership.

I think this would be the sensible workaround to fix a problem. Probably easy to have it just produce a link for copying than feature a Facebook or Twitter logo as they produce cookies and tracking within a site, killing two birds with one stone.
