LitWridoNaNoWriMo - The Support Thread

* raising my my cup o coffee in a toast for the Pop *

Well done daddy! Keep on writing. I can't wait to sink my reading teeth into it. :)

17.805.

I'm getting there. I'm getting there. But I think I'll have to reduce my goal to 25.000 words.

Does anyone have the address for Harlequin?

Well, I've found a contest at their page. (Don't know if that link is allowed - if not, moderators may remove it.)

Now I'll just browse their site until I find an address where to send the manuscript.

Ohmafuckingawd...

5.You can write medium-length, complex stories.

At 70,000 – 75,000 words, Love Inspired books are long enough to offer a juicy story with character development and possibly a subplot. But short enough to read in a day or two.

That's a MEDIUM length story?????

I knew it. I just knew it.

My story's gonna fit on a freakin' pamphlet!!!:( :( :(

Harlequin probably isn't for me...

Top 10 Reasons to Write for the Silhouette Romance Series

10. It's short — you can write 200 pages.

9. We usually publish four to five new writers a year.

8. A short book means there's not too much room for the saggy middle.

7. Teal is a flattering color.

6. We've got a wonderful group of fellow authors for you to meet.

5. There's room for some unusual short stories.

4. You can write three of these in a year.

2. You don't have to worry about your mother — or your father! — reading your book.

1. If you marry the characters off, they can have sex.

Look at numbers 10 and 1!

200 pages - a SHORT story???

No sex before marriage??? My characters have sex INSTEAD OF marriage!!!

I considered writing for Harlequin. But the fact of the matter is, I HATE Harlequin romances. They're, well, not really my kind of book to read. *Yes, I'm putting iit mildly.I have a worse opinion of them*

There is truly no romantic involvement except a hint of somethign here and there. Then, at the end of the book he asks her to marry him because he's deeply in love with her.

Last one I read there wasnt even a kiss or a touch or anything. Geeze, If you're going to call it romance, at least put something in there for people to actually THINK there's a love story in there somewhere.

Sorry, but that' sjust my opinion.

Mine are more likely to get married at the end of a shotgun barrel BL rather than before the event:D Umm not only that half of them are related so I can't see Harlequin publishing it.

Keep at it Svenska dear you'll get there:) You're another winner in my book for not giving up when it all seemed hopeless:rose:

Cheers Ice man, I'll take that coffee mate I need to sober up a bit;)

Hey Purdy darling we'll have to curl up somewhere comfy with a cup of something and I'll read it to you both :rose: :rose:

I just gave myself extra incentive. I want to finish so CM (and others) can give me a nana and I get to see Calvin whooping about. :D

writing,

Perdita

Perdita, when you finish, I will be extra sure to put Calvin back in my AV just so he can dance for you in celebration of a fantastic achievement!

Congratulations Pop. We knew you had it in you.

The AH support mechanism worked for me. It seems to be working for most of us.

On one of the threads at NaNo I'm the only one over half way completed. Svenskaflicka's output would be the second largest.

Everyone else, please keeep gooiing...

Og

Apologies for the late congratulations, but well done, Pops! You've done an amazing job, and have provided a lot of inspiration for the rest of the group.

I've had a manic weekend, and haven't got nearly as much writing done as I'd planned to. However, I'm just about to hit 45,000, so I should complete sometime over the next couple of days. Adam is also doing very well, and will probably complete the same time as me. :D

This really is the final push now. There's a little over a week to go and I know we'll all be celebrating next Sunday night, no matter what. We've all achieved so much to be proud of.

It's about time I did another UPDATE, so please PM me with your latest word counts. I'll do it in a couple of hours time.

Lou :rose:

Interresting. I haven't really given it that much consideration. How long IS a regular novvel out there in the paper back stand? Are there examples somewhere of the word-count of something that I might have read? When I'm done (sometime before x-mas I hope) with the full story of my NaNo it might still be too short for fitting the "norm" of it's genre, thus making it harder to get throough a first publishing screening.

Anyone knows?

The "norm", I believe, is anywhere between 80,000 and 120,000 words. Which is about 250-450 paperback pages. These are rough estimations, but I always think of a decent sized novel length being 350 pages (100,000 words).

In reality 50,000 words is more like a novella than a novel, but get anywhere above 75,000 and you are approaching a novel length manuscript.

I think mine, once I've got to the actual end (not the NaNo end) and gone through and edited, adding a few scenes here and there, could reach at least 80,000, hopefully more.

Lou

I agree with Loulou, as always. 80-100K seems average, and I expect I'll be there when really finished.

Somewhere on the Nano faq's they explain that 50K is really a novella but that it's a reasonable wordcount to do in a month and they chose not to call it National Novella Writing Month, ha ha.

Perdita

Thanks laidies. I had a hunch that 80k would be a reasonable figure. I'll have no problem getting there, I think. Sometime this winter. My only problem is that I have gone soft on myself again after marking the 50. And I don't really write better then I did under pressure. Just slower.

Damn I think I'm in trouble.

The last 20k + words is dealing with the events of a single day. The story takes place over a thirty year period. Volunteer editor... make that slasher required.

My idol wrote approximately 500.000 words in her latest novel.

And still it only takes me 3 days to read it.

whoa

Hey Purdy darling, I like fast women, know any more;) :rose:

Cheers Oggie, I'm glad someone else had confidence in me:D Other than the wife and good friend:rose:

Ta Lou Lou, but as Oggie said without this AH support thread of yours and folks had been alone in it, a lot would have said sod this for a game and given up long ago:rose:
(Not only that 90pc of us would never have heard of NaNo without your input here)
Glad to hear you're on the march to the end as is your hubby Adam.

Cheers Svenska love, and that hug made cum over all warm:rose:

Like you Ice I've relaxed and not touched the thing since yesterday, it will be done and it might be a lot bigger, probably pushing 70 - 75 K.

Wills, what can I say, oh shit sounds appropriate, you'll crack it mate, just have to make him a bloody long stayer:devil: :D

Hiya, Pops, you winner you. I'm still cheering you cos you deserve all the joy you can take for winning.

I can be fast, I can be slow, whatever you like, ha ha.

I'm slow though at the writing now, thinking too much, but enjoying it nonetheless. When you're in between writing stints you can cheer me on, I need it.

love, Perdita
