Ack, Perdita! :( I hope you keep feeling better! Being ill is no fun. Being ill and knowing you're running out of time on a deadline is even worse. *hugs*

Thanks, Mhari. But being ill while on a much anticipated 4-day holiday is the absolute worse*. Now I'm just looking forward to the xmas break.

I've finally dragged my slow arse over the finish 50K finish line. The story still needs to be completed, but the NaNo 2003 has been achieved.

I feel doubly blessed this year because I got to participate with some very driven and inspired people.

As stated before, we're all winners for having learned and benefitted from the overall NaNo experience.

I'm still 100% behind everyone that is still plugging away through midnight tomorrow. You can do it.

Edit: Had to correct the NaNo year as Ice so kindly (and humorously) pointed out.

No wonder that it took you some extra days then. The rest of us have barely finished the -03 race. ;)

Thanks for catching that, Ice. It's a bad habit that I've developed. I work for a video game company and we always title our sports games one year ahead. For example, our soccer(football) game this year would be FIFA 2004. I confused poor Tate a lot in the beginning.

Mike, congrats from me (totally out of any running now as I was laid up malaise-wise for the holiday).

And a personal thanks for bringing NaNo to Lou, and so to us.

best, Perdita :rose:

1 December 2003

Hi all and congratulations to everyone :rose:

My final word count for 30 Nov was 27667. Frankly I'm stunned. I never thought I'd write that much in my life. Still, the tale is barely begun and my characters are dragging me hither and yon and I'm having a ball. Heck I may not even finish this thing in time for next year's NaNo! ;) (There's nothing quite like stringing out the enjoyment).

I have to say though, I've averaged 922 words in my half an hour of writing each day and it's shocked me just how much that has built up over the month.

The consistency in dicipline was what I was looking for as well as the start of the novel. I'm over the moon and feeling like a winner myself because I've achieved both my goals.

Congratulations to everyone else who has achieved goals you've set. :)

GOOD ON YOU!:D

Woohoo! Congrats, mate! :nana::nana::nana:

I am pleased on so many levels. You are an inspiration to me, thank you, for everything.

The best bit? This is just the beginning.

Tate

Edit: P.S. Me, confused? Never! :p

Congratulations on achieving your personal goals, WSO! :nana:

You did great. You are right, it is amazing what you can achieve just writing for half an hour a day.

Lou :rose:

I know the day isn't over yet, but I wanted to throw in a final "Good on us all". This for the people who completed, participated, started, supported, excerpted, discussed, shared, encouraged, tolerated (in the case of NaNo widows), learned, and the list goes on.

November has been a month of winners.

I agree, and on the subject of NaNo widows, my wife - not a Literotica member - despite taking three evening classes each week, plus a morning class, told me today she's managed 37,000 words, but as I said elsewhere, she said 'I'm not behind, I'm on a different timescale' :)

Alex

PS: Mike, congratulations yourself!

I recall that quote, Lex. Congrats to Mrs. Lex from another 36K NaNo. And I want to remind you that it was your early post that hooked me, after Lou's intro, so many thanks, sweets.

Thanks, I'll pass on the good wishes. At least you're thanking me, and not cursing! I don't know everybody else, but I thoroughly enjoyed NaNo, although since I hit the 50k I've been tied up with RL trivia, like marking, so I haven't finished the tale yet - and it needs quite a bit. Then I can edit . . .

I just ordered a book from Amazon that Whispersecret mentioned to me some while ago. 'Self-editing for Fiction Writers' by Browne and King. Just might come in useful.

Alex

Well done

Nice one Mike, now join the ranks of the, 'must pull myself together and finish this bloody thing' brigade with the rest of us:D

Well done Wildsweetone you done good darling, bloody good with that restriction on writing time:rose:

Well done Mrs Alex as well for her efforts off screen as it were.

I hope my darling Purdy's feeling better by this time as well, sorry to hear you've been a bit down with a bug lover:rose: :rose:

Time to Celebrate!

Yeah, well, I did today.

My hubby brought home a DVD player for my Birthday last night. Thing is, I needed to get to the Radio Shack this morning for a RF-Modulator. On the way I picked up my very first DVD. heheh it was absolutely fantastic. Now I have a dvd AND a vcr to watch stuff with.

incidentally, I'm officially 38 now. ;) But i'm so happy. I got what I wanted for my Birthday.

A very happy day after then, B. Lady. Good thing your b.day wasn't earlier or you might not have finished the novel and we'd all be the poorer for it.

So what was your first DVD?

Perdita :rose:

First DVD

*sighs* I Wanted the first DVD to be something like Reign of Fire or Dracula 2000

But all Walmart had in their 5.00 bin was The Avengers. That and some really really OLD movies.

*shrugs.* Hey, but at leat I know my first DVD movie. I liked the boot changing scene with Uma Thurman and Ralph Fiennes. Kinda sexy if you ask me. ;)

Thanks Pops

I'm just in complete awe of you and everyone else who managed to go full steam ahead. An amazing feat. :)

Congrats to all

I had an ear infection for most of the month in both my ears, which curtailed my writing, but I don't want a lame excuse. I failed the 50,000 word goal, but I did not fail on the 30,000 plus words I did write. So pat on back for me, yay me! Next time I will outline the novel before I go at it with no story at all. That was a mistake for sure. For the rest of you that were hoping to finish and didn't, at least you tried. It felt good to make the attempt. Unsatisfying, yet it was inspiring to see all of you keep up the spirits with your posts.

A personal thanks to Tatelou for inspiring the group to do this and look forward to another stab at this in '04. Thank you dear for the work you put in for the rest of us. :rose: :rose: :rose:
Also a hearty congratulations to all who met or exceeded their goals. :nana: :nana: :nana: :nana: :nana: A 5 Nana salute to your accomplishments, well done! Those of you who enter the winter contest as well, I tip my hat to you.

Happy Holiday Season to you all! :D

Well I didn't make it either. Final word count: 42,875. But I had a great time getting off the dime on a novel my kids have been trying to get me to commit to paper for the last 20 years.

Things I have learned:
1. There is a whole lot more background and cross-reference work than I anticipated to make a sci-fi novel work - I think I needed two more months to complete it (meaning I still have a lot of that kind of work to do).

2. My experience here at Lit has helped my writing quality a tremendous amount.

3. Without having familiar voices encouraging the slow typing participants I might have given up (meaning the novel, not just nano).

4. There are a lot of good novels in progress among my friends that I want to read (I read a lot, so this is a realistic plan).

5. Having a high goal (50,000 words - OMG) is a good thing, if it gets my ass glued to the chair and my fingers typing away.

6. That I need to find a way to do this every month, and still participate in the threads with responses, not just reading.

7. Reading is good, reading good writing is even better. I tried to read maybe a dozen different epic books by fantasy and sci-fi authors and found them to be of a lower quality than I wanted to write. Then I read half a dozen award winning sci-fi books and found that I still wasn't reading what I wanted to write. Then I re-read Perdita's piece and felt it was much closer to what I wanted to do (writing style, that is) and picked-up Anne Rice's latest: Blood Canticle and Stephen King's latest: Wolves of the Calla and discovered what I was doing wrong - trying to write someone else's book. So I completely revamped what I wrote (yes, I know that probably was the biggest delay for me, but it was worth it). I like the results much better and I am following in the same vein for the rest of the book.

8. Write your own book (see 7 above)

9. Write whenever and wherever you can. My oldest son graciously gave me the key to his cabin - and then arrived with his family (3 of my 7 grandchildren) and we had a wonderful Thanksgiving - and only 5000 more words in 5 days. I kept sneaking off to write and probably only got in 15 minutes at a time. Bad, no - it was good. I learned that I can write in very small bits of time without losing my thought.

10. I am far fonder of my friends here than anyone else I met at Nanoland. Thank you for putting up with me and thank you for all the encouragement you've given me here.

Thank you Tatelou - for all your work, your encouragement, your accomplishment. Thank you.

I agree with Og that writing on the boards takes time from writing the story, but I think we all need a way to get the juices flowing and sometimes our posts help that happen.

Perdita, I still love your title, Alegría y Lamento. Please keep it going, I want to read it. I think you could have a winner at the bookstore with it.

Polly, (or SvenskaFlicka - I like both nom de plumes) I still want to read your novel, you've done quite well as far as I'm concerned. You started with no idea of what you wanted to write and look how much you did. BTW did you ever get that address for Harlequin? I have it if you want it.

Champagne - Good going, only keep going. You write so well, just keep at it. I expect you to become highly published.

wildsweetone - you too, a great start. All you have to do is finish on your own schedule like the rest of us.

To anyone who won their own personal best, good job.

All I can add to this is:

Wait till next year!

-FF (still typing away)

Congratulations to anyone who wrote anything for NaNo!! :rose: :rose: :rose:

And remember: Don't lose your forward momentum just because NaNo is over. Keep going till you're finished!

Yes, yay you indeed, Dingus! Sorry to hear about your ear infection, those things are nasty. Congratulations and well done on writing all you did. I'm glad to see that you did get a lot out of NaNo.

Thanks for your thanks, it really was my pleasure. See at NaNo in November 2004.

Congrats on a very impressive word count FF! More importantly, well done on making a great start on your novel. 20 years? Wow! :rose:

You made some great points there, it is great to see you got so much out of it. You have done extremely well, give yourself a huge pat on the back.

Thank you, as I've said before, it really was my pleasure.

See you there again next year!
