LitWridoNaNoWriMo - The Support Thread

Thank you all for your kind words and encouragement... it really means A LOT. It really will help me to squeeze out some more of the novel this weekend and beyond hopefully...

And Mike B., that would be wonderful if you want to use my quote to help inspire some of the NaNo-ers to keep going... I know there are quite a few people who get a rush of energy from the last-minute time pressure and may be able to use that energy to finish or get closer to finishing!
Thanks all,
JJ

I've started thinking about my next novel, I am going to keep the momentum I've gained from NaNo going.
Gotta maintain your forward momentum! *grin*

I know I'm not doing NaNo, so probably I don't have a right to say anything...but IMO, the whole "competition" is against yourself, not anyone else. That's how I'd be looking at it, anyway.

In my book, anybody who wrote anything at all because of NaNo is a winner. That's X more words that you might have done without the "competition". Now just keep going, even if you don't hit 50K by Sunday. Maintain your forward momentum!

WOOHOO!! I did it!!

Coming in at a total word count of 50,540, I finished my novel!! Yippee!!

Whether or not it retains the full word count upon editing is another story entirely but makes not one whit of a difference at this point.

Thanks one and all for the support given during this month. The AH is a great bunch of guys and gals.

As far as I'm concerned, you don't have to be a participant to offer encouragement to the participants or the concept as a whole. Your thoughtful observation is appreciated.

CrimsonMaiden, congratulations on crossing the line. Good on you!

I knew you'd do it. I've got to say it: good on you!

Mhari, thank you. As Mike has already said, just because you aren't a NaNo participant it doesn't make your supportive and encouraging words any less valid. I might use that quote in my sigline, if that's ok with you?

You are so right, JJ. Just think, your quote that Mike will pass on might well help some fellow NaNo-ers complete this weekend. You will be giving people that much needed rush of energy, and help them to thrive on, and positively harness, that last-minute time pressure. Thank you. :rose:

Well, huge congrats to those others that have made the 50k and big hugs for those still writing. As someone else said, if you wrote *anything* this month, that's still more than you would have written without NaNo to spur you on. Take from this experience what you can.

I'm gamely trying to finish mine novel now that the pressure's off, but I've totally lost inspiration recently. Ah well, we'll see if things pick up some.

Well, certainly it's fine with me! Although I myself stole it (or the concept, really) from Lois McMaster Bujold.

Of course we mustn't forget Mike the Mentor from across the sea who's kept the encouragement up and who's assisted our lovely hostess in this effort, I see you're nearly there yourself mate, keep at it, or are you there already by now?
My apologies for not responding to this sooner. I did read it yesterday, but I've developed a bad habit of telling myself "I'll get right to it" then getting side-tracked.

I'm almost there, but I'm taking my time toward the end. My story isn't closing out as I would like, so I'm just throwing in closing ideas to keep place holders for the major rewrite I'm planning.

Thanks for your kind words, and thank you for being a fine example to the other NaNo participants all through the month, Pop.

Raph, sounds like we'll have to create a special RaPhoFinWe (The Raph Finish Week). :D Maybe the time pressure is the key to unlocking your talent.

I'll be doing my penultimate penultimate *UPDATE* in just over an hour's time (9pm GMT). Please PM me with your latest word counts.

Not long to go now folks, including today there's just 4 days remaining of NaNoWriMo 2003. It's been a blast and I intend to see it out with a bang. :D

Lou, still writing

P.S. Thanks for the congrats Raph. I'd happily start up RaPhoFinWe and get my whip out again. :D

Ooh baby ;)

But, there's no need. I have some things to take care of this week, and then I'm going to devote my energy to it again. I knoow I can write it. I know it'll be good.

I just know it.

Aaah, Mhari's good for quotes, she's like me... Like that great Marcus (Babylon 5) one in her current sig.

Hi All

Been out of the loop for a few days.

Wife's had an op. gone well and on the road to recovery. Unfortunately completely helpless and I have to do everything for her, so it's not all bad.

Congrats to TateLou, Adam & Crimson, for getting past the post. I'm delighted for each of you but especially you Lou.

Has Mike - ODM made it? I'm out of the loop again for a couple of days, until I get back to Lisboa on Wednesday. Well done Mike, in anticipation.

Got a Christmas story up. Link below.

Best wishes for Thanksgiving, for those partaking and have a great weekend to the rest of you.

Hi Wills!

Sorry to hear about your wife, but pleased to see she's doing well. All the best to you both.

Thanks for your congratulations. Adam and I are still writing, we'll carry on through the weekend, until we've written the endings to our novels.

Mike hasn't quite finished his yet, I swear he's teasing me. He's at just over 49,000, and he said he's taking his time on the ending. It's driving me nuts, because I want to find out what happens at the end of his novel.

Take care of yourself, and your good wife.

Lou :rose:

P.S. Raph, great to hear you are going to maintain that forward momentum! :D
(The offer of the whip still stands, though. :p)

Thanks for the advance congratulations. I've not yet hit the 50K. By my 2K a day schedule, I should have completed on Tues or Weds of this week, but ironically I've hit a snag at the very end of my story. I realized that I haven't hinted to the background enough over the course of the story, so telling it all now would seem contrived. I plan to do a major rewrite after I've let the manuscript sit in my drawer for a month or two, so I can restart with a fresh perspective.

I'll put in the last 1,000 words today. I've been on the last 3,000 words for this entire past week, so there has been no real threat to my completion of the challenge.

-Mike B.

There's one and a half days left of NaNoWriMo 2003 now!

All the best to anyone who is still typing away, I'm rooting for you all.

This quote made me smile: "You may be on the right track, but if you just sit there you'll get run over." - Paul H. Dunn

Write, write like there's no tomorrow, but don't forget that there is still tomorrow. I don't want to seem pushy, I know a lot of you will continue to write your novels anyway, but it is a great feeling getting your novel validated and seeing your name on the winner's page.

I am so proud of the achievements of everyone in this group. You have all shone and proved to yourselves that you are novelists.

Lou

It's not as if I was expected to finish NaNo's goal, but it's definite now. I was struck suddenly by a very meanspirited microscopic creature late Thursday, just now rising from a personal 'day of the dead'. Mostly I'm pissed off that I missed a full holiday day.

Glad to be alive and sitting up.

You poor thing! Very pleased to see you are feeling a little better now. Take good care of yourself.

Dear Perdita

Sorry to read that the bugs got you.

It is always worse at holiday time, somehow you feel doubly cheated.

Hope your back at the keyboard soon. :rose:

Thank you, all. I still haven't eaten anything but Kaopectate and saltines since Thursday. Having my first cup of tea and doing fine. I don't think it was the turkey or meal as both my sons are fine. Maybe it was the stress of NaNo? Nah, ha ha.

Very nice to be cared about, though.

Perdita :)
