Looking For Your Thoughts

Obama had very little experience when he ran, and I believe he was an excellent president. I'm sure there have been many presidents in our history who had less than ideal experience, and many who had the right requisite experience who turned out to be awful presidents. So a balance of relevant experience, high moral character, and sound decision making skills would be ideal. But that's a big ask, and that person would still infuriate half of the country.
I agree S/F. Regardless of who sits in the Oval Office we have unfortunately become so divided politically that half the country is going to hate them.

And that’s sad.

Agreed. But please don’t fall victim to apathy. Vote.
I'm reminded of the South Park episode where the boys had to vote on a new school mascot between a giant douche and a turd sandwich, as I recall. I think it was Stan who became cripplingly depressed at having only those choices. Now I can't remember if he even voted. Outstanding social commentary, though.

Yeah, but I’ve always maintained, as in this thread, that this election isn’t about 2 candidates. It’s about Roe. It’s about trump vs established American ideology. The op made a stronger defense for the Biden administration than for a potential Vance presidency.

Except that calling Biden a turd sandwich isn't accurate.

Unless you discount everything he's done, the strength of his administration and his policy goals.

I noticed though that you threw in the towel after the debate.

Let me disabuse you of that notion, adrina. I haven't thrown in any towel. And I'm certainly not calling Biden a turd sandwich, but I understand how people are apathetic at least about this election. I've been a Biden supporter since his senatorial days, and I believe he waited one election cycle too long to run for president. I was really hoping he would run right after his vice presidential term. I think he would have beaten Hillary and mopped the floor with Trump. But it is obvious that he has lost a step, both mentally and physically. I would still vote for Biden on a ventilator than Trump on his best day. But I do understand how people are dissatisfied and disappointed by their choices.

As for why I haven't been on as much, which you seem to call "throwing in the towel", I didn't watch the debate, because I didn't think it would offer anything of value and certainly wouldn't change my mind. Also my phone finally shot craps last Thursday. I just got a new one on Sunday afternoon and have been working to recover restore and reinstall as much as possible. But I highly doubt my presence was missed.

I hate that we are all having to be subjected to this anxiety but I think we all knew this election would never be a cakewalk. I personally don’t want to play into divisiveness that the media and republicans wish for. I’m not the person to really talk on kumbaya but I’m saddened to see the unnecessary flare ups between like minded members (ie - dk and 1174).

America faces a fork in the road in the upcoming election.
Team Red White And Blue stands for democracy and support of attacked nations.
Team Orange stands for fascism and Russian appeasement.

You will never see a more stark choice again in your lifetime.

The frustration is that this election should be a cakewalk for the Democrats.

Agreed on the one cycle too long, but life hit him hard. He took the loss of Beau too hard to be campaigning for president immediately after the VP turn. What he should have done, though, was to recalibrate how long to spin this out. He's done that one cycle too long as well.

Yeah, I know about Beau and I understand why he wasn't up for a campaign at that point. Just sucks all the way around.

I remember that a poster here landed hard on Biden not running for president then, saying it was his duty to run. I said Biden didn't owe the country anything more at that point if his private life was overwhelming him. Any loss of child is a whammy, but if comes on top of memories of losing both a wife and a child at one go (along with being challenged by a surviving problem child), it's justifiably challenging.

I'm sorry for sounding bitchy. I appreciate your response.

I missed your presence. 😎
