Losing votes/ratings/traffic

I lost another 11 votes from my most recent story, and that takes my vote total back to where it was on August 24. My Romance Top List story lost 36 votes and 0.01 on score, which will probably send it back to page three or four.

The people in the current contest are reporting no views or votes over the last few days. The glitches are now beyond the "glitch" stage. The site isn't working. I can't even read a story without damaging the author's results.

Can we revert to the old story view before all the wheels come off?

I have so few votes on most stories that I can't attribute odd changes to anything other than background noise, but on "Nude Enough" there was a drop from 139 votes to 127, but not much change in the rating, from 4.63 to 4.61.

Flipnmelonfarmer here (couldn't log in with that account for some reason) - I can confirm that I've lost votes on most of my stories, some at a higher percentage than others. Every story I have published had a 4.5+ rating- now two have lost votes and dropped below the "Hot" threshold. Can give specifics if needed - comparing to a snapshot taken March 3.

One of my more popular stories has been bleeding votes every day for a week. And I had like two dozen views - total, for all my stories and poems - vice the normal of several hundred. Sure...

I must reluctantly agree with NotWise. I would hope that the site goes back ASAP to the former system until the new one can be put straight. With all its faults, it was less demoralizing than this.

I’ll be holding off posting stories for the time being.

My stories are down another 1220 votes today, and scores on 11 of them dropped again. I'm now showing over 8000 votes removed in the past 4 days, and 32 of my submissions are showing lower scores. None of my stories were ever submitted in any contests, and some of the stories that have lost the most votes were submitted over two years ago.

Whatever impact this was having on my scores, it was not affecting the site's bottom line until this latest glitch on the "views." My stories consistently generated 5000 views a day, on days when I had no new submissions. Over the past 4 days (and this is right on the heels of my latest story being submitted) I am showing barely 4000 views for that four days combined.

I'm sure Manu is working hard to fix all of this, but I hope you guys will understand that I will hold off publishing anything new here until this mess gets sorted out.

Any news to share on the fix for these issues? Vote counts are being effected as well.

My latest story has just 33 total views after 2 days, yet 20+ favorites. This makes no sense. I know it's getting more views than that. Main problem since the beta change has been views.

I'll add a little more detail on what I posted earlier, although I do this only to provide more data in the hope of helping the fix be developed. "Don't Ever Love an Alpha" lost four votes (33 to 29) in one pass, and somewhat earlier, "3 Women, 3 Men, 3 Days," went from 17 to 14 in one pass. Those may just be background noise and/or legit sweeps.

I'm down almost 1800 votes now, and no end in sight. Every time I check, it's worse. Scores are dropping obviously because the HIGHER 4&5 votes are being removed.

Holding off on submissions?

Several authors above have indicated their intention of holding off on submissions until the glitch has been fixed. I have several consecutive chapters of my current series in my pending folder, and several more waiting to be submitted. Although I'm eager to keep the momentum going on this novel --- the first chapters of which were published before the upgrade --- I too am wondering if it might be better to hold off on submissions.

The effect of the glitch is indeed demoralizing...a good word for it. I'm only a small-time author on this site, and although votes and views are not a first world problem, accurate feedback has always been much appreciated and helpful.

If you are delaying submissions, any thoughts on how we'll know when the issues are fixed? I'm keen to get back to a responsive feedback system (via views, votes, etc) that this great site has always done so well.

astuskin,

First off, let me say that I am not throwing mud at the site owners. This is a big site and poop doth occur. I am sure they are doing their best.

That said, I'm happy to present my stuff here and accept that the only compensation is reader approval. That's fine. But in the present situation, I would rather know that what I'm seeing in terms of reads, votes and comments (my payoff) is a good representation, not something caused by a dyspeptic computer. Hence I'm going to pause to give the IT wizard(s) (of which I am definitely not one) to find the problem.

When will I know? I guess when my stats aren't jumping up and down in an unprecedented fashion. You get a feel for what's 'normal' and what isn't.

No grudges for the owners. I'm sure it will be soon.

I expect that Manu will announce the fix on the Lit Tech Support forum once it's done. Even without an announcement, you should be able to see when the views bug is fixed because the views on your stories will start going up again. Without an announcement, it will be harder to spot the votes bug.

It's a shame that excellent authors are facing these issues. Hopefully it is fixed soon enough.

To be perfectly honest with you, I would have preferred had Lit fixed the ongoing inability to change profile email addresses and passwords, rather than initiate a cosmetic change that really wasn't needed.

We don't know what was behind the change. Given it's to do with the basic numbers, it could well be structural in terms of the databases, not cosmetic. We have no idea as to the need.

Login isn’t working

The site stopped automatically logging me in. When I go to log in manually, it accepts my password, but then doesn’t log me in. Now can’t access my account

Views appear to be registering properly again.

I'd taken an Excel snapshot 12 hours ago, and my stories are showing 3200 new views since then. Take away the 600 views from my latest submission, and the view total is right on track. Unfortunately, I lost another 320 votes over that same span.

I thought that looking at the figures for 'How Can I Persuade You?', my latest story which was published just before the 'glitch' occurred.

Figures are as follows:

900 views in two hours after publication on Friday
400 more views in the following 5+ days after the new page format issued
300 views since last evening, which is roughly what I'd expect for a newish submission after 6 or so days

Still no sign of the missing views being reinstated, but we can hope. Based on the number of ratings (93) and favourites (20) i would expect something in the region of 20-40k views by now.

My traffic appears to be back to about where it should be, albeit a bit of a 'slow day', but at least it's more like what it should be. Still losing votes but not on the scale I was or, it appears some others are.

Overnight, my story "Ruth's Experiment," published in mid-2019 and with little traffic lately, went from 40 votes to 35. All of the removed votes were 5*s.

I have received a PM from Laurel saying the problem has been fixed. I lost some more votes overnight, but perhaps that was before Manu pushed ENTER.

Thanks for letting us know, TP. Sadly, it had to come from another author rather than the owners!

I'll be far happier when he pushes the RESTORE button if they intend that. Fixing the glitch is great. Restoring the damage is paramount—350+ votes and counting on one story in romance alone.

Yeah, the problem may have been stopped, but I won't consider it fixed unless my tanked ratings are restored.
