Losing votes/ratings/traffic

Some strange behavior I just noticed on the story info cards.

Upon first opening a story, it is displaying statistics that seem to properly jive with available information.

For example, the number of comments here matches the number of comments that are visible on the story at the time.

After a few seconds of waiting, the display changes:

Yeah, the problem may have been stopped, but I won't consider it fixed unless my tanked ratings are restored.

I agree. My latest story reduced from 4.65 to 4.53 as a result of a big chunk of 5* votes removed that I'll be lucky to see back in the next year, the rate it gets voted on.

I've seen something similar, too. But in what I've seen it takes just a second or so for the view to change.

Thank you for the screenshots and URL. We're aware that some data may update after a page loads (some data needs to be updated more often than other data), but it should not be that far off. I'll look into it and see what's happening here. :D

Grabbed a couple more screens from the same story a minute ago. As before, the first is upon loading. The second is after a second or two.

It looks as if the info card initially is displaying current data, but then ends up displaying an earlier snapshot when it updates. That earlier snapshot seems to be rolling forward in time, because the stats from my previous screens have increased in the new ones.

So eventually, once activity dies down, they'll probably be almost identical. It's only obvious on this one because it's a brand new story from an extremely popular author.

I have received a PM from Laurel saying the problem has been fixed. I lost some more votes overnight, but perhaps that was before Manu pushed ENTER.

Correction to that. I misunderstood what she said. It was a different issue which has been fixed. Views and votes problem, still working on it.

Just lot a "Hot" tag on a story the went from 4.8/10 to 4.4/10

Sure would be good to know what's going on with this.

I took a snapshot 10 hours ago and compared those numbers to one I just took. It appears the views are registering correctly, and the "vote bleed" has dropped to the levels we had been experiencing from mid-August last year through last week. I'm showing a net of positive 2 total votes across my stories on 3049 views.

Several of my stories are showing a net loss of votes, most notably Faculty Meeting (-12) and How Did This Happen? (-13). Both of those standalone short stories are over 2 years old. Spinal Meningitis Is No Joke Ch10 and The Hypnotist both dropped another .01 while showing zero net votes.

The bleeding has slowed, but I'm still bleeding votes and scores continue to drop.

Lost Traffic and Ratings

Since some of us have stories in the April Fools Contest, and all the ratings and views are off, I wondered how that would affect the outcome.

As of this morning, votes are still being returned, average rating is going down.

Interestingly, one story has a lower rating with the same number of votes as yesterday.

FWIW

I had the same thing happen, a 0.4 drop with the same number of votes (10) cost me a hot tag. It later updated votes to 14, but the same rating. Seems very odd. I actually did submit a story for publication this morning, demoralizing as this experience has been, mostly out of morbid curiosity. So we'll see how that goes I guess...

One week since I reported this issue and zero information on what is going on. Disappointing.

I'm still short a few hundred votes, and those stories are still down score-wise.

It would be nice if someone here would let us know WHEN you figure the problem is resolved so we can check the final totals.

I checked all the categories, and all the ratings are down across the board. There are only a few current submissions over 4.50.
Lots of my ratings are still down, as well as the traffic. So it will sure be nice when this is resolved.
I have one submission for the April Fools Contest, and two stories for the Reader's Choice Awards for last year, and all three ratings are down, so I have no idea where they stand. Since my two stories that were on the first page of the Hall of Fame in Mature had their scores drop, hardly anyone is reading them. So I think I'll hold off submitting anything else until this is sorted out.

I just checked. I have a story in Mature - A Fool In Love, and since all the scores are down, I have the top story of the last 7 days at 4.45! How can it be that for an entire week, not one story cracked 4.50? Something is definitely off.

As of the last time the ratings were updated, only 12% of the AF entries (9 of 75) had scores of 4.5 or more, and the median score is only 4.25. I've followed scores on every contest for the last two years and I've never seen any contest scores get even close to being that low.

My 'How Can I Persuade You' is currently 19th in the Mature 30 Days list at 4.39. It is currently at 4.43 on my page so should therefore be higher. Seems ridiculous such a low score can be that high.

Also still showing only 3,000 views in 9 days despite 124 scores and 25 faves.

A bunch of my stories have received in the last couple of days the number of votes they usually get in months, lowering each of their scores by even 0.1. Is Lit somehow reinstating votes from older sweeps? WTF is going on with this website?

I've also noticed a lot of readers favoriting my work lately, but it doesn't show up anywhere. Someone mentioned it's harder to get votes and favorites to stick using this new rollout.

I have to ask. How to you notice readers favoriting your work if it doesn't show up anywhere?

In my recent activity a reader indicates that they're favorting one of my stories, but then it doesn't show up as another favorite. Some readers will do the same story over and over again, I guess to try and make it work. I noticed this is happening a lot lately. Throbb, one of the artists also mentioned that it's harder to score and indicate a favorite now, because as he put it, it doesn't stick.

Thank you for the report.

Do you know where the user is clicking the Favorite icon when it isn't sticking? I was testing this quite a bit just now and I can't trigger that bug, but it could be that I'm not testing in the correct place or on the correct device.

Some members do use Favorites as reading lists, adding and removing Favorites frequently as they read them, but I'm assuming that you are seeing different behavior from before the new story page rolled out?

If you see someone add your story as a Favorite, you should be able to see that favorite on their user profile since Favorites lists are public. It might take an hour to show up on their profile (the system doesn't update every page instantly).

If you have specific stories that you can see in your activity that have been added to someone's Favorites that are not showing on their Favorites lists, please let me know the stories/users, and I will do more research. Because Favorites are public on Lit, checking on this should be pretty easy.

Thanks again for the report. :D

Hi Manu,

Does it show in a writer's activity list if a reader removes a favourite after adding? I had noticed that one of my readers, solepleasing, had added my stories Fucked Stupid and Fucked Stupid Pt.03 to his favourites on the 13 and 20 March respectively, but I can't see them on his favourites list. He also started following me on 23 March, so I suppose it is possible he removed them from favourites when he did so. He has contacted me since, so I could check.

In the Last week or so I've had the following favorited that didn't show up on the reader's list: 3/29 - A Kiss to Build a Dream On by JakeDraper29, 3/25 - Meeting the Brothers Ch.03 by KallMett, 3/24 - Sexy Sadie by Thatoneover, 3/24 - April Fools Games by Bamo68, 3/23 - Daddy Does Didi by FictionRomantic, 3/22 - A Little Too Close For Comfort by Pallas9457.
The artist Throbbs mentioned how to get the votes to stick, but looking back on his page now I can't find that tip. He does mention the problem though in his drawings Clear the Desk and Black Wings.
Hope this helps.

I had some votes restored today. "Nude Enough" went from 4.61 on 126 to 4.62 on 133, which might (hard to tell with these numbers) correspond to a 4.71 average on the restored votes. The vote total is still lower than it was before the removal.
