Magic in Words (Closed)

He held her to him, simply remembering.

It was on the third night she came to him. She'd climbed into his window, and he'd been waiting. They were getting bolder, eager to be with each other.

When she entered, he'd met her, pulling her into his arms, and kissing her passionately.

"I got something for you," he said.

"I bet you do," she replied, playfully, trying to maneuver him to his bed.

"A moment, please," he laughed. "You're insatiable!"

She'd laughed with him, their voices low to avoid detection. That's when he'd pulled out the necklace.

It was simple, just a creation of the village children that he'd seen and it reminded him of her. He'd paid the child three times it's worth, so thankful he was to have a gift for his love. It was a simple thing of smooth, polished stones and feathers. Great care had been taken to make it more than just a "pretty", and the stones held runes that the child's mother had sworn was some ancient language, a ward against evil.

But it had reminded him of her. It had reminded him that she was beautiful, wild, and free.

And it was the only thing she wore as they made love.

Tears pricked his eyes at the memory. "Oh, my Nadya..." he whispered. "My sweet Nadya."

He looked at the necklace. "I think that this might be what kept her here. If we bury this..." He focused on her eyes. "I think her spirit will finally be free of this place of evil."

She nodded with a weak smile to him.

We are slowly becoming one so yes to bury it with the bones would be best.

She didn't realize she was reaching a hand to his cheek her eyes now looking at his the necklace still in her hands but no longer her sole focus. It felt natural to lean against him like that to be in his embrace... Nadya truly solely loved him it was so touching.

Her touch. It was different yet familiar all at once. He could feel Nadya, his Nadya, in that touch. But he could also feel this Nadya, the Nadya that had brought him here.

Two women, both of whom he'd come to respect, to cherish, and maybe even love. Both of them in the same body.

He didn't know what to think. He just knew what he felt.

But he was afraid.

Is this right? he thought. It's like having the waterfall and the lake. Not one or the other, but both halves of the same whole. Do I deserve such a thing? Do i deserve such a wonderful woman? No man in the world deserves this much love!

So his thoughts went. But as Nadya's eyes filled with a love both old and new, there was only one thing to do.

He cupped her cheek in his hand. He leaned into her. Then he froze.

The young man, the one he'd sent out to get the shovels and the men, had returned. But...something looked wrong about him. Whether it was his close proximity to Nadya, or something wicked about this place, but he could see a presence around him.

It flowed around him, at first. Like smoke in a heavy breeze. But when it coalesced, in the moment when you could see details and features, he saw it for who it was.

It was his brother. It was Nicolai. The heir to the Dragomirs, his twice again elder.

And now, it was the man he hated above all else.

"You!" He screamed. "How dare you show yourself here!"

The young man convulsed as a voice came from him.

Father did this to her. Nadya's powers could have freed both of us from him and made our failing.g family great once more but no... father sought to kill her here slowly to torture you and she refused me because of you.

The young man then screamed and collapsed.

The young man was in pain. Whether from the possession or from something else, it didn't matter. He knew who was responsible.

"Let him go," he commanded. "If you want to talk to me, then talk! Don't drag another innocent into this!"

He put himself between his brother and Nadya. After how long they'd waited, after all they'd been through, nothing was going to hurt her ever again.

"Tell me what you want, Nicolai!" Alex demanded.

I want what is mine as the eldest to make this family name great once more and how better than with that gypsy witch at my side.

He smirked...

After all it wasn't just you that her powers brought here... brother.

Nadya whimpered hiding behind Alex. Combining prevented Nadya from hiding anything from the modern half as she hissed...
You attacked us when your father left his office... demanding submission for our possible safety from your father. We would not andyou had to hurry away.

Alex's mind was in a flurry. He had to find some way to protect Nadya, but his brother was incorporeal. And the addition of a third mind into Nadya's conscious would be nothing short of disaster.

Then it hit him.

"Do you trust me?" he whispered to Nadya. "Do you trust that I love you?"

He said it to her. To the Nadya that was, and most importantly to the Nadya he'd grown to love over the past month in her care. You could tell by the fact that he said it in English.

She nodded whispering the word trust and smiled at him the merging seemed almost complete but with his brother here the past Nadya was more fearful.

What?

Alex turned back to his brother.

"If you want to bring back our family's power," he said. "You're going to need a body. One that no one can doubt belongs to the Dragomir line."

Nicolai paused.

"If you take me, you can have all that power, and be alive again, too," Alex continued. "But you won't get my body without a fight unless you swear to me that you'll let Nadya go. Her powers aren't something you or anyone else can control. But, in this new world, there's plenty of things more powerful out there than one girl."

He stepped forward, toward his brother. "Do you agree to these terms?"

But this boy is a Dragomir brother... it is just that he... FIGHTS me! Apparently he believes the two of you were wronged or some rubbish as that.

It was clear the boy was winning the fight as the brothers voice became pained. Distracted enough the old woman walked up and locking a cord around the young mans neck with a strange stone on it she hissed...

Silence demons spirit... leave him you are commanded!

The moment the stone touched the boys skin his eyes rolled back and then he shook his head looking around a little confused.

I... I am sorry I was cleaning the carpets in the hall but now I am here... how is this possible and where is this?

Alex let go of the breath he had been holding. By some miracle, his gamble had worked, albeit in an unexpected way.

If Nicolai had possessed him, he would have fought. And if he would have lost, he'd have killed himself, then and there. So strong was his desire not to lose his love again.

Instead, fate had been kind, and had chosen that he would live with his love.

He turned and rushed back to Nadya. He cupped her face in his hands. "Are you alright my love?" he asked in Romanian.

She looked to him nodding with a smile.

I guess that whole Yin and yang balance to everything in the world is really a solid law I could not imagine bringing something that cold and evil through I am not a horror writer.

She looked to the young man... its alright go with the old woman she will help you.

Shaking her head she just stared once more at where they found the bones... She and I are... almost completely one now... its strange I know what he did to her trying to convince her he could protect her from your father... He couldn't your father hated us too much but... in his anger and lust he really thought he could... if he could prove we carried the heir... his heir.

Alex pulled Nadya into his arms.

"They can't hurt you anymore," he said, beginning to tear. "We're finally free, Nadya. Free to love each other, to be together. Nothing can stop that now."

She smiled to him curling into his arms. She knew the necklace was only a temporary fix but she would not burden him with that right now.

We... we should grant her a proper burial now.

The old butler chimed in. Even though there was not body found for the young lord there is a grave with his sword and some other royal items were buried. Perhaps burying her next to his grave would be most fitting.

Alex smiled grimly. "Yes, they would have tried to bury me, wouldn't they? I think that's very fitting."

The gathered up the bones and the necklace and took it to the family cemetery. They unearthed "his" grave and laid the bones reverently beside his items. After saying the proper prayers in Romanian, a weight seemed to lift off him.

"You know," he said, a small tear in his eye. "I know that now your spirit and hers are one, but still...I can't help but to feel sad. All that pain..."

He placed an arm around her and held her by his side. "It's good to know that the hell is finally over. We can start our new life together."

Yes we can... though I still have questions about my "magic" or whatever it is that brought you here. And my ancestry but all in good time I guess.

She knew it was the actions of both halves now whole as she turned a little and leaned close and kissed his cheek softly.

Alexandru Dragomir, supposed last of the Dragomir line, smiled at this sign of affection.

"I know that you must have conflicting feelings, Nadya," he said. "I know that you are part spirit of the woman I...made love to, and part woman who still doesn't know me. Just know that I will respect your wishes and desires. If there's anything you wish to know, you have only to ask and I will be happy to tell you all."

He kissed her forehead. His eyes twinkled merrily. "Besides, you still have that book to write, don't you?"

Yes... Her... our story that she can no longer hide from me.

She felt strangely safe and comfortable in his embrace. It was like nothing she had ever felt in her various flings in her life. This was so far beyond her understanding but she liked it.

Why down't we just go back to the room and relax and I will write... I... I think I would feel safer with you close by.

He smiled. "Ok," he said in English.

They went back up to her room, Nadya writing, and Alexandru telling his side of the story.

"Back at the camp," he said. "That first night. That was an amazing night. There was dancing, singing, good food, everything was wonderful and exotic."

He gestured excitedly. "But the best part of the evening had to be when the festivities had ended. You guided me to the edge of the forest back to this castle. But, before we left the clearing..."

He smiled. "Do you remember what we did?"

She nodded smiling to him as she sat writing. Her thoughts all circling but clearer than ever. The more she wrote with the favored quill and ink she could see the images clearer and clearer in her mind.

Yes... I remember.

"It was our first kiss," he said, his eyes going out of focus. "We were standing by a tree..." He pointed out the window. "That tree right there, more than three hundred years ago. I stood there, feeling like a fool but not wanting to leave. Finally, you grabbed me by my shirt and pulled me to you. My mind went...alive with an explosion of emotion, stronger than anything I ever felt before."

He smiled sadly. "I kept sneaking away every chance I could. But, finally, father forbade me to go out anymore. Said that only his 'worthy' children were allowed such privileges."

His smile became an almost boyish grin. "But that didn't stop you," he said. "The next night, when i didn't show up, you climbed up to my room, and demanded to know why we couldn't be together."

His eyes became dreamy as he remembered fondly. "That's when I said 'We're together now.'"

He blushed, then coughed. "Sorry...uh...what happens next, well, I'm sure you know...um..." Finally he sat down, almost like a puppy that didn't know what to do with himself.

She set her writing aside and moved over to him. Sitting on the bed with him and curling close.

I remember

Her eyes closing it gave her a chance to ignore and forget what she was writing more about this time. The darkness and pain that led to her being imprisoned in that pit.

Alex tilted Nadya's chin up, looking deep into her eyes.

"I will always be here, my Nadya," he said. "My beautiful...beautiful...Nadya."

He kissed her, a new kiss, one that neither he nor either Nadya's had ever experienced. It was filled with passion, with longing, with hope. It was a promise and a hint and a suggestion.

It was Alexandru's way of saying "For all of time, I am yours."

She pressed softly into the kiss feeling everything was strangely right about her being here like this with this man she barely yet completely knew. Curling closer to him her hand moved to his cheek as they kissed her eyes falling closed as she sank deeper into the feelings and sensations of it all.

It was magic. Like the powers that rescued him and his love, this kiss contained their combined feelings.

He broke the kiss for only a moment, the need for air trying to beat the need to show love. But as they looked deeper into each others' eyes, they felt the pull to deepen the kiss. His arms wrapped around her, pulling her close, her body pressing into him.

Everything is perfect, he felt.
