I've already tried posting in Threads Seeking Writers, so far no bites.
Also, I thought about it, and Sean is right -- it would be easier to just go with the version of Asgard shown in the movies and make them have Universal Translators, so we'll go with that. We can say it's Kree technology and at first when Thor appears, he is trapped on Earth and his UT is broken at first, so all we hear is him speaking Old Norse, but Selvig understands him and Tony Stark is able to fix the UT or something. Then he replicates the technology for all of our characters so we all have UTs. Sound good?
We can also use the timeline in the movies as far as the Tesseract goes -- it was left on Earth in the 900s, Red Skull found it in the 1940s, and then he was sent through a wormhole, probably to a distant planet where he eventually becomes an ally of Thanos. I still think that's what will be revealed to have happened in Cap 3, lol.
We can say though that the Tesseract is still on the plane with Cap, frozen under the ice, and they are discovered at the same time, which hasn't happened just yet. Sean, your character could be there when they pull Cap out and that way when he thaws, there is a friendly face, lol.
For the record I was just saying the UT to solve the communication error. I don't really think in Marvel or DC (especially DC, I'm less familar with Marvel's interstellar travel techniques) that it makes no difference if you're a different plane of existence or a different planet. So far the Bifrost doesn't seem to have any powers that say a Boom Tube doesn't so if you wanted Asgard to be counter Earth hiding on the otherside of the sun, or on the far side of the galaxy, or in Hell it doesn't really matter much. No normal means can get you there, but if you have various super gizmos getting in and out is just like pushing a button or raising an awesome hammer.
As for being there to greet Cap. . .I thought I was on the run. I mean I like it and if you think between amazing stupidity and shape shifting ability that he'd go anyway that's cool. He very well might and I'm more than willing to act a bit out of character to keep a story going. Ben isn't usually quite as haughty as I played him with the Reaper but it was fun and gave me something to do.
You could act as like you're one of those who aided in the excavation of Captain America, acting as one of the support personal helping discover him and/or retrieve him.
I meant when we get to that point, after we've teamed up and your guy is no longer on the run. I meant in a future story arc when our characters are there as Cap is discovered. Your guy would probably be like, "He used to be my friend back in the day," or something.
I like that plan, or the original. I have no problem with the idea that he at some point decided that the best place to hide was in SHIELD. That's the same kind of crazy thinking all my favorite characters do.
Also SHIELD is EVIL!!!! BAD!! We are screwed. It's time, it's time, it's panic time!
Well officially SHIELD doesn't exist yet in this world -- it is created as a result of the outbreak. I was thinking at first maybe Fury and Coulson and Romanoff are CIA agents and then their little sub-agency kind of branches off into its own division and they become SHIELD. Maybe at first Fury answers to the Director of Central Intelligence, but then once he is promoted to Director of the new SHIELD, he answers directly to the Director of National Intelligence and the National Security Council, putting him on equal footing with his old boss.
Maybe the Office of Strategic Services -- the precursor to the CIA -- was responsible for Erskine's lab. And then, since SHIELD wasn't formed in the 40s like in the movies, we say HYDRA infiltrated the CIA instead. Because frankly, I find the idea of SHIELD being around for 70 years with no superhumans kind of weird, haha.
Gah. There have been so many different story ideas talked about in this thread, it will probably dissuade new writers, lol. We can use this thread to sort out exactly how we are presenting the RP world, and then I will create a new OOC thread along with the IC.
I think it's simple enough if you ignore the details. Don't give a lot of background, just give the most current stuff and let people fill in the back story as they will.
Alright, I'll keep that in mind. I decided to wait to start the RP thread to see if any one new came in, but after posting the new OOC, I won't wait more than a day or two before getting the RP rolling.
