Early in a sex scene in my WIP, the man tells the woman that he gets more aroused for her than for other lovers. He does it by saying something like, "I have a special kind of 'hard' just for you."

I had the idea that, later in the same scene, the woman would reply in kind, saying that she gets more aroused for him than for other lovers, but I haven't found a way for her to say it. The options I've considered either seem implausible or they don't seem to get the idea across. My initial try was the exact corollary to the man's statement--that her clit gets more full or more sensitive for him. "More wet," would be another option.

For the time being I've decided that she won't reply that way--that there's probably no single, common element in a woman's arousal that can be isolated that way.

Your thoughts?

"My nipples explode with delight!"

...More seriously, though, when you say:

there's probably no single, common element in a woman's arousal that can be isolated that way.
this is of course true. This woman, however, is the character you are writing, so you can ascribe to her whatever arousal patterns you like. Anything you've mentioned could work if it is established that it's the typical symptom of excitement for her in particular.

Jason stroked her hair and whispered. "I have a special kind of 'hard' just for you."

Marion kissed his chest before sighing and hugging him tightly. "Thank goodness. I'm glad it isn't just me that feels this way."

Something like that might help, but it isn't a statement/response. They're bathing each other in the shower and playing with each other a little., so there's a continuous series of events that aren't very tense or serious. She does something that elicits his statement and several paragraphs later he does something that elicits her response.

I’d have to see the story to understand why “a special kind of wet just for you” couldn’t suit.

I did see what you said about “a single common element in a woman’s arousal” but - two points:

One, it doesn’t have to be something common to all aroused women. Presumably these two people know each other and each other’s arousal well enough that if wet IS one of her own elements, personally, then that would speak to the man in the scene as well as to readers who aren’t too pedantic to let it go un-criticized. Those same readers have just as much ammunition to criticize “special kind of hard” with.

Two, it is enough of a cliché that even a woman whose arousal is more complicated and less consistently about getting wet can say it, in the same way that we talk about “wheels” when we mean a whole-ass car. Having someone say something like this to her lover is not in any way a fuckyou to accuracy about all women’s arousal everywhere ever.

I've saved my best just for you.

Like Debbie Harry sings ...

I will give you my finest hour
The one I spend watching you shower

"I have a special kind of hard just for you."
"Hmm, that's good," Lily lifts her skirt to reveal what's beneath it. "I'm pretty hard for you too, baby."

Okay, sorry, I think I'm still drunk from last night.

House full of family and a brand new bottle of Jim Beam. That story wrote itself.

That was my first thought too. I hadn't been at the whiskey though.

One doesn’t need whiskey to not-overthink.

Fire is usually a good word. I have a special kind of fire just for you.

My wife once told me that the reason I love sex with her so much is because she adds MSG to her vagina. 🤣😂

I agree with Britva, It doesn't have to be biologically accurate to get the point across. Nothing wrong with a little white lie to make your partner feel good.

Here's the thing about great dialogue, in my opinion. It doesn't all have to be punchy and witty. If I can't find a way to express an idea clearly, I'll often have my character struggle with the same dilemma. That makes it far more genuine

She gazed deep into his eyes, struggling to convey the whirlwind of emotions that this man was stirring within her. "You make me feel..." she paused, unable to turn her thoughts into concrete, expressible ideas. Her entire being was craving him, and the passionate desire passed beyond her ability to describe. "I don't even know how to explain how badly I... well..." She swallowed hard, attempting to force the words out manually. "You turn me on more than any man I've ever known."

Her words were hardly eloquent or concise, but she realized at that moment, she didn't care.

That may not be anything like what you're looking for, but my point stands that if you can't think of a clever line, maybe your characters can't either. That can be a feature, rather than a bug.

PS If you HAVE to go with a physical description. I would recommend "wet" "slick or "moist"

A bit crass, perhaps... but it's all I can think of.

Based on my experience, a woman would be less likely to express this feeling in anatomical, physical terms than a man would, and it would be more plausible if she described a feeling rather than a physical sensation. She could reply back that she was "aroused" or "excited" or something like that. But it all depends on the character. Think about your character: what would she say? None of us can speak for her.

She could get wetter, or like him, more hard, since the clit does, or can get erect. If that's the path you're still gunning for. Or maybe she sez she climaxes easier and/or faster.

I mean, there certainly are degrees of wet.

It's also one of the (many) things we can be self-conscious about. If it fits with the character you might have her express the idea with a bit of a blush.
