Mythical beast

Hi MsL,

I think that you should describe some more detail of the activities going on. I like the scene's, the knowledge of the characters going on, I just think that you could go more in depth. Keep up the great work! Looking forward to reading more.

It's not you, Linnet;

I was flooded with a number of email notifications from 2-4 months ago on the 15th of July. I've no idea why.

Me too. I blame the computer!

BTW, I like Linnet's new avatar; but then we Brits who are unacceptable to some plural identity Lit members have to stick together.

Gender issue

Linnet...

Artemis is actually a goddess. She's the twin sister of Apollo, and is a greek moongoddess, protector of hunters and women giving birth. The Romans call her Diana.

I've always found it a tad ironic that Artemis is a patron goddess of childbirth when she was also a patron goddess of virginity and chastity, and used to punish her nymphly handmaidens for fooling around (not to mention the fate of poor Actaeon, who just spied on her bathing).

Some half human half animal hybrids that I know of are:

Centaur: Human upper body attatched to the body of a horse at the neck (of the horse, I mean.)

Wemic: Basically the same thing as a centaur, but instead of a horse body, it has a lion body.

Bariaur: Again, basically a centaur, but with a goat's body instead of a horse's.

And then there are werewolves and all thier kin, such as werebears, wererats, and my personal favorite, weretigers.

My source for all these is the Dungeons and Dragons books. If you know somebody who plays D&D, you might ask to borrow thier Monster Manual.

Anyways, I'll post some more human-animal hybrids if I think of them.

I had in no way finished researching this project as it is on hold at the moment.

But thank you for this information and will look at this further

Well, according to the myth, Artemis was the older of the twins, and helped her mother deliver Apollo, which is why she was called the protector of women giving birth. (Way to go for a newborn!)

Swedish folklore

In Swedish folklore, trolls are not the monster-looking creatures you see in comicbooks, but rather human-looking. And they are reputed (is that the word?) to be veeeeeeeeeeeery well-equipped.

We also have the legend of Näcken, the naked man who sits by the riverside and plays the violin, luring young women into the water to drown them. I always suspected that he did something else once he ha dlured them to come close to him...

They seem to be the same at Lit...

half human half beast

Star, I found your post about the different kinds of animals very cool and useful for those kinds of stories. If I were to write one of these, about a half human half animal creature, then I would definatly think it was a great idea to check out my boyfriends D&D monsters guide. Earlier in this post, by that I think I mean in April, we were discussing whether one of these stories would end up in the Extreme category...I'm wary to try one of these stories for that reason; I don't want my peice to get lost forever = (
