NaNoWriMo 2004 - Sign Ups!

I simply cannot commit this year, or even think about writing another novel yet. My RL is good, but I'm focused on another major project (photography). However, I encourage anyone else who is interested. It was a great and fun experience. The camaraderie of the group, plus Lou's leadership, was such a help. I believe we all felt support from the rest of the AH too.

Good luck to all! Lou, you're the best!

Thank you so much, Perdita! Those words mean a lot to me. It was a wonderful experience and it was made all the richer by your involvement. The exceprts you posted from your novel were just brilliant.

The photography project sounds great. All the best with it, let me know how you go!

I'm in, which means that for the month of november I will be both completing a novel I've been brainstorming for awhile now (haven't written any of it, or at least will be fully starting from scratch for the contest, so I will be within the rules). On the other hand, it means to fit it in I'll have to stop sleeping that month. Oh well, price one pays and all that.

People will be available for random questions, right?

I'd like to sign up! Alas, considering my writing method, I will only be signing up for the cheerleading squad and for the emergency research backup team. :)

I got to chapter 8 or 9 last year, and then my mind went blank. I've had to put "Bimbo" on ice for unknown time being. Hmmm... Bimbo On Ice... I hope I won'tget sued for plagiarism (sp?).

Anyway, I'll be in the NaNoWriMo again thsi year. It was so much fun, even if I never made it to 50.000 words. I hope I'll do better this year.

Besides, since I have to travel by bus for 2 hours every day (I work in another town - heck, in another province, even!), I'll have some time to doodle. I might even doodle at slow times at work!;)

Lou,

Yup, I think I'll have a go at that.

No idea what the story will be, but a fairly good idea how good/bad it will be.

Still, got to do something while resting between Man U's inevitable strides to the Champions' League, haven't we?

Whoop!

Great to have you join us, Lucifer. There certainly will be people available for random questions. I'll be starting up the support thread again, as I did last year. It really did prove to be a great support for us all.

Thanks, Lauren! I'll know who to call on. ;)

Woohoo! That's great news. Wouldn't have been the same without you. :)

Cool! That's the spirit! :D

Hahaha! I see you're the delusional type. :p

I already wanted to participate last year and than real life happend :D, as in fun at the unversity. Anyways ... I doubt I'll have the discipline to commit to write 50.000 words in one month. I wanted to write 50.000 between 1st of august and end of september ... so far I've completed about 5.000 words, so I seriously doubt I'll get it in one month.

But maybe I'll change my mind. Other languages than english were allowed if memory serves, right?

Is there a group of Litsters to join, like in that Euro 2004 predictor game?

CA

All right. I'm in.

I know I shouldn't, but I just can't keep away. It was so much fun last year (even without Lit & Lou support) that I'll ignore the little warning signs and plunge into it once more.

Got full time studies.
Got almost full time work.
Got a busload of minor responsibilities to take care of in November.

Haven't got the know-how.
Haven't got any idea.
Haven't got time.

This is gonna go splendid. :D

Match desparatly wants to use the novel she's started- she needs that extra push and doesnt' want to start a new novel.

What if her word count started from what she wrote in November only?

<deep breath>

Hmmm....

sure...
count me in...
I need to work on my discipline and develop stronger antiprocrastination techniques anyways...and, even if the first draft is mostly crap, it'll be finished crap which is easier to work with.

Isn't it? <g>

First question

Okay, I get that the writing is done between Nov 1 and 30, but do we need to begin any kind of prep work with regards to plot, setting, character(s) etc before then?

Are we even allowed to do that?

Hi CA! It would be cool if you could try it again, but I won't put any pressure on, I promise. ;)

There's no actual group for us to join on the NaNoWriMo boards, but last year I did start up our own thread there, where a lot of us posted and chatted. That and the support thread here, it really did feel like a group.

Let me know what you decide!

Yay! That's great to hear, Liar!

You're a nutter, though. ;)

Hi Sweet, the answer to that is technically, no.

Here's the rules from the FAQs page on the NaNoWriMo site, which might be of interest to you and others here:

The Rules

Can I write one word 50,000 times?
No. Well... No.

Can I participate if I'm not American?
You bet! We are an international event. We would call it "International Novel Writing Month," but it doesn't roll off the tongue in the quite the same way. Dubious fiction writers from all nations are invited to participate.

Can I write in a foreign language?
Sure! Foreign-language novels are great.

I have a lot to do in November. Can I start in October and end early?
No. One of the best things about NaNoWriMo is the way it spreads the agony of creation throughout a large community of co-sufferers. For the pain to be properly distributed (and thereby diminished), all participants must be working on the same deadline.

Do I have to start my novel from scratch on November 1?
Yes.

Does that mean I can't use an outline or notes?
Outlines and plot notes are very much encouraged, and can be started months ahead of the actual novel-writing adventure. Previously written prose, though, is punishable by death.

Can anyone participate in NaNoWriMo?
No. People who take their writing (and themselves) very seriously should probably go elsewhere. Everyone else, though, is warmly welcomed. (I loved that one!)

Can I share writing duties with a partner?
No.

Not many rules, but basically the spirit of NaNo is to write your own novel from scratch (or 50,000 words of one, at least) during the month of November. Believe me, doing it that was is a very rewarding experience!

Brilliant! That is exactly the right attitude. You'll do well, my son. :D

Seriously, that is precisely why I did it last year, and why I am doing it again this year.

Yep, you sure are! See the rules I posted, a couple of posts above.
