NaPoWriMo Chat, Comments, Commiseration

Writing poetry is cathartic, I forgot that. I've been sooo exhausted, both pissed off and heartbroken for over a year because of Covid-19 as a caregiver. Day 1 of NaPoWriMo starts out angry and quickly takes me back to me. The psychological relief is lancing and draining poison. Unfortunately, the poison may very well be some shitty poems!

oh, neat. just realized there are undo/redo buttons. wish I noticed before, would've saved me from rewriting what my damn cat deleted when she walked across my keyboard!

Jamis my dear man I'm just glad you're posting again. And hey 30/30s always result in some klunkies...but from what I'm reading you still got it. I agree that it *is* cathartic. I wrote about depression and immediately felt better. Sometimes just getting those words written means you don't have to carry them around, right?

I've thought of you this past year, knowing you must be in the thick of it. So good to see you and that you're ok.

So many good poems... you folks are crushing it.

"and I realise what its like
to break like bread
rise with steam and fervour"

Todd, it's not just because someone is always getting drunk or fucked or punched that I like your stuff. It's because of all that AND then you drop lines like these as though it was just some lint fell out of your pocket.

Calli's 5th was so strong; not quite tears - but a definite deep shaky sigh. If I'd read it after Angie's In Memoriam link I'd have been a blubbery mess.

Angie's 4th is also one I know I'll come back to.

Neo, I feel like 'Nothing Gesso Can't Fix' will still be my favorite title on April 30 at 11:59pm.

I like 29 Words' Crossword, and his Easter egg/butt plug made me laugh out loud. That is a butt plug right? Am I projecting again?

Tzara writing Onegin Stanzas about writing Onegin Stanzas is like watching a snake eat it's own tail, and I'm guessing it's easier for the snake.

I'm going to relish this now: I can feel the bad ones coming.

Champy, we are thinking of the same things, spring and sex; I'll pretend the reference to the latter is "spring beds"!
Well, that trip was with my sister-of-my heart and was by no means sexy, but I like the way your dirty Casanova mind works. I'll try to get erotic on the page sometime this month

Thank you for the prompt! I ran with it for poem 5, Catharsis.

It's so good to be reading you Jami-san.:heart::heart: your poems, as crappy as you think them, make me happy to see you using the medium to get it all down. Psst, they are NOT shitty

Take a break from agonizing over what to write next for NaPoWriMo and read this article in praise of poetry. It's relevant and has great links. :)

Thank God for the Poets

That was a very nice break, indeed. Thoroughly enjoyed the article, and I'm keeping that browser tab open to remind me to follow all of the poetry links as I get the chance.

Just had to chime in and say that's a big reason why I like his writing, too. :)

That one demanded to be birthed last night, which surprised me. I expected I'd end up writing about it, just a bit later in the month. The anniversary is in just over a week. Thank you for mentioning it. I'm trying to come up with a title for it, but I'm not very good at that part, so it may be a while.

I like what you did with Rolling Stones. This Song really speaks to me, the way a song can transport you in time, can connect you with moments and the people in those moments.

For what it's worth, my applause doesn't feel at all awkward so far. :D

Thanks everyone for buying a group ticket for this month-long therapy session. It certainly comes with a huge payback.

To everyone, adopting Piscator's...
Promise me your words
all the way counting up to thirty
your first lines made me thirsty
promise me these words

That is a butt plug right? Am I projecting again?

I was more thinking of one of those vibrating eggs...but, of course, interpretation is up to the reader.

Tzara writing Onegin Stanzas about writing Onegin Stanzas is like watching a snake eat it's own tail, and I'm guessing it's easier for the snake.

The whole thread with insights is great, but I agree with Levitating_Bed, this one is my (current) favorite. May I, maybe in May, come up with one or two question about the Onegin's form?

I am in constant awe of you all.

Was going to do the 30 in 30 this month, then this thread idea became a thing... now I worry I’m just throwing my garbage amongst your beautiful flowerbed.

Anyways, so lovely to read so many people clambering through this together. 💜

Yes! Good to see that you're too. We've been around Lit for almost 20 years--Champy too, can you believe that? I still remember the poem I wrote for 26 Licks, a dirty triolet for my birthday and you commented on it. You and Champy were kind. Rybka and Senna er... were not! WE said something, well, something wicked. (Cantdog probably made fun of the title.) 2002, was a good year, 2020 will be a year I want to forget.

Thank you! The title before the poem on that one. (Bob Ross :rose: )

 Do! Melt my glasses off. Ange made laundry hot. By the way, that avatar makes me think of Ange, that's if she put boobs on her avatar! You always had some spicy avatars and erotic poetry Champy.

Yet. There's still today or the next. It's coming though!

Todd, your 6-30 is fucking stunning.
Yes, fucking stunning is right. That first line, though.

@ Moochienanu, Not garbage, fertilizer. Like a garden needs it, so do poets. Many times I have found interesting word choices, images, or attliteration in someone else's writing that sparked ideas.

So good to hear from you here, and I'm glad you decided to join us in this NaPo thread. I've enjoyed your writing. You fit in just fine. :)

There's a sister one loses
in a flash, a private Hiroshima
that blows up the world
though no one else sees
the slow half-life that follows,
the quiet decay in which one tries
to animate moments.

This is so damn good.

All this current poetry action reminds me of early days here when we had same title challenges and poetry shoot outs and Wicked Eve and smithpeter et al egged us on. I love when we write together and get synergy going and inspire each other. And the poets are just crushing it with this challenge. I wish I had butters' ability to give succinct feedback on every poem. Maybe when the challenge is over we can revisit some poems in depth. Thats too hard for me now with the need to produce a daily poem hanging over me like the Sword of Damocles!

Oh and I realized the other night that my laundry poem is the fourth erotic laundry poem I've written. It must be a fetish. I do love me some clean clothes. :D

Agree with Champ on this one Neo, and I may have thought of donning Pom-poms just to make Calli Jealous :D

Clean sheets and vibrating washing machines, what’s not to love ;)

I wish I had more time to play and pen thoughts but things are insane here, I’m seriously wondering how many rocks in my head I actually have!

If you'd ever have time to count them, we could do one of those guessing games, like guessing how many jelly beans are in a jar. :)

And you sound like me when I first started writing in this place :D

Although I think it’s a rare occurrence that I’d write lovely, or use coloured writing, or a love heart....

Maybe it’s the constant awe of the others and thinking my writing never measured up, you’ve a unique voice so use it, stretch your writing styles, play with words and have fun.

Also read something you really like and try to find out why so you can use it yourself

Appreciate you being along for the ride

:nana::nana::nana:Kudo's to both of you, I totally agree with tod's comments. :nana::nana::nana:

and maybe we should use coloured text
- I think red might be best for tod's verse

Really enjoyed 29’s piece today

This here

“kicking us from our B-movie dreams
that miss colors, sound and subtitles
thus complaining about decaf poems
would be senseless”

Was my favourite part

Thanks, wished I could remember what it means :) Damn late night writing

Update: 'decaf poems', something that won't keep you from sleeping?

Do you know I still try and make people read
The Charm of 5:30? I mean, it's not like I keep it
in my back pocket, like The Watchtower or
anything like that.

But whenever I get
a chance and they're the right sort of person -
you know what I mean - I'll say something like

you know what's a good poem?

I wondered if I might be the right sort of person. You did get me to read it, and I can say I understand why you'd want to make people read it. So, thanks for that. And I liked your poem, too. :)
