Nerd Power!

Howdy Nerds and Nerdettes! Just another day, getting closer to the end of the week, which is nice.

Next week the expansion for my crack aka World of Warcraft comes out. I've preordered my copy, and the place I'm getting it is having a midnight launch party. The problem is, I've never been to one before, so I'm not entirely sure how early I should go to get in line to ensure I get a copy. Any nerds out there have advice?

I'm an epic nerd. At least I'm not alone on the boards! Been playing every RPG, RTS and Strat game I can find for the last.. uh..10 years.

Highlights of my nerd resume.. in chronological order..

Magic the Gathering CCG
Dungeons and Dragons RPG (from 95-96' till current) including 1st, 2nd, ADD, Skills and Powers, 1.5 and 2.0.

Vampire the Masquerade RPG
Gurps RPG
Rifts RPG
Starwars CCG
Startrek CCG
Werewolf RPG
Live Action VtM (once)
Palladium RPG
Birthright RPG
Pendragon RPG

and others I can't remember anymore.. plus a solid percentage of most RPG and RTS PC games. Nerds rejoice!

Speaking of Vampire The Masquerade, Was it this RPG that they claimed that Caine was the first Vampire?

First thing to think of is did you pre-order? If not, then you're in for trouble. Get in line as soon as possible. With the way World of Warcraft is going to sell out, the those who didn't pre-order might have to wait until second or third shipment of the game (or get lucky at a Wal-mart). If you did pre-order, then it's a mater of how early you want to start futzing around in the world of Burning Crusade. Personally, I'm off work at midnight, so I'm driving straight to the store I pre-ordered from and paying the rest of my deposit so I can start that night (much to the chagrin of my wife).

All I can say is be careful out there. It's gonna be mad, and there might be people there who'll rob you on the way out.

Of course I pre-ordered. The manager at the store said basically only people with preorders would get any, get there early, and make sure i have my receipt. They'd only be letting 5 people in the store at a time. The store opens at midnight, and it's basically right next to a starbucks, so I guess I'll just head down at around 8pm (is that too early?) and see what the line is like. If there is none, I'll go into starbucks and read. If there is, well, guess my ass is gonna be sitting out in the cold for 4 hours.

I'm thinking about trying to bribe the boy I've been seeing to come with me for protection, lol. Lucky for me, the place is right near where I work, so I'll be able to park close by and all that.

Yeah that's a good idea. At least I wouldn't go alone if I were you.

I'd also recommend calling the game store and asking them approximately how many reservations they have. Try and gauge how many people they're looking to have show up. If you reserved the Collector's Edition, definitely be careful (check e-Bay for the Collector's Edition...craziness).

Anyways, good luck with getting it. Have fun. What server do you play on?

I think you should get someone to go with you... and boy's are easier to bribe for stuff like that. I hate going anywhere after dark bymyself, even if there is going to be a crowd of people.

Kind of, the first (and one of my favorites) Vampire the Masquerade Redemption. But it also ties into the Pencil and Paper RPG. It was introduced in the form of the "Book of Nod"/ Maybe a 50 page "Vampire Bible" if you will. (I own the shirt). Basically it goes like this - Cain, after killing Abel was cursed by God and banished from Eden, In his time of trouble, (if I remember correctly - been a while since I've read it) he meets a mysterious woman named Lilth, She sires Cain and introduces him to the powers and sacrifice of Vampirism. Explaining the weaknesses of the Kindred kind. (Fire being one, explained as a curse delivered upon Vampires by the Archangel Michael the Angel of Vengeance with the flaming sword.)

It's a good read, and my favorite Vampire genesis of all time.

(Disclaimer: The Book of Nod is a VtM setting aide. I'm not preaching a religion - hopefully no one here gets "hung up" on this kind of post.)

Oh yeah, also played EverQuest for 5 years, still have an active character w/ 483 days played. And World of Warcraft (currently),DAoC, and others.

Wait wait wait.

You have pre ordered the game and you may still not get a copy?

That is just messed up.

These are little cds and what, maybe a printed booklet? They can mass produce those cds in mere days to give ever single perosn who wants one two copies. the little booklets may take longer, but I still can't imagine Blizzard not having all that handled.

That is just messed up. <nods>

So I said "Alright and left". I went back 2 weeks later to see if they had any copies in (this is after the release date) and he said no. He tells me I can preorder now for the next shipment which I did. After I give him the 10 dollar preorder fee. he THEN tells me that I might not get mine because I'm not on the "Superior" list. -.-' Needless to say, I still don't have my damn GH2 and I still never got my money back for my so-called preorder. GAH! :cathappy: But aside from all this I still love Cheesenips and Freaks.

Steps to buy GH2.

Cross the border.

Find a Best Buy.

Go into store.

Buy game.

Recross the border.

I don't know who or what Spinel Sun is...

But I've been to my local Best Buys several times in the last month and a half and never once have I seen them not have a copy of Guitar Hero. Sometimes they dind't have the big box set with the guitar, but they always had the game :)

my name for you.
But here- for some reason, it's really hard to find- mind you I live in a tiny town.

Oh...I see. <ponders>

I don't suppose you have the ability to order if off of Amazon or some other online store?

And, if you go back into your game store and ask for your money back they should give it back. :)
