Wait wait wait.

You have pre ordered the game and you may still not get a copy?

That is just messed up.

These are little cds and what, maybe a printed booklet? They can mass produce those cds in mere days to give ever single perosn who wants one two copies. the little booklets may take longer, but I still can't imagine Blizzard not having all that handled.

That is just messed up. <nods>
From when I worked in the video game industry, it takes approximately 1 week to press 1 shipment of CD's for a game. Remember, there is only 1 Master Disk for a game...from that all copies are made (in theory, at least). From there, you need Jewel Cases (or sleeves), Instruction Booklets, individual CD-Keys, Box Art and all that to be packaged, shipped (and not be stolen) and delivered. Provided the company is on the ball about it (and Blizzard usually is), the first shipment is almost exclusively for pre-orders (on a game of this scale). The second and third shipments should arrive within a week and should sell steadily. Now, it's been years since I've worked for the gaming industry, but some things never change. I remember when Starcraft came out there were shipments of 50+ games per store for the initial release (and most stores sold out fast).

I'd also recommend calling the game store and asking them approximately how many reservations they have. Try and gauge how many people they're looking to have show up. If you reserved the Collector's Edition, definitely be careful (check e-Bay for the Collector's Edition...craziness).

Anyways, good luck with getting it. Have fun. What server do you play on?

I asked, he wouldn't tell me how many had reserved. Even if I had that, it wouldn't matter. Let's say that 50 people reserved copies. If they're only getting in 30 copies, that's still 20 people not getting any. Now if they are getting 45 copies, there's less to worry about.

I won't be taking any risks. I didn't reserve the Collectors Edition though. I play on Norgannon.

Well from how I understand it, Blizzard is putting out a pretty limited release for the first set of copies. Funny, you would think they'd put a ton out, considering they just hit 8 million subscribers who play, World Wide. I may also have a better shot at getting one, because instead of just putting down for a deposit, I paid for mine outright. Either way, if I get there super early, there's no line, and I'm the first one there, well that just means I'll get my copy first, and I'll rush home and be able to install it immediately.

So... there's not an option to just buy the game online and download it ala Steam? I could think of a pretty good deal where you'd order the box, they'd send you the CD Key (hopefully via some secure mechanism) and then you download the game and install it so you can play whilst your shrink-wrapped box is meandering it's way through the postal system.

So, in other news, I'm the worst frugal shopper ever. Went to Hastings to return a rented copy of MechAssault, and ended up buying a $20 joystick so I could chat up the cute girl working at the cash register (curly brown hair, very nice blue eyes, the girl is just gorgeous). She goes to the library where I work pretty regularly, and did I mention she was cute?

The only reason I asked about the number of reservations was for you to get an idea of how many people would show up. Anyways, good luck with getting your copy of BC. I hope it doesn't take you too long.

Nope. I'd imagine there are a number of practical reasons for not releasing more copies at once, or having a downloadable copy. Right now, there are tons of people with lvl 60 chars in the game. With the expansion, the new cap will be lvl 70. The new Outlands area with all the new places to level is going to be PACKED at the release, because all these people will be starting at the same time at the same place. *shrug* I'm sure I'll give everyone an update on what happens. :)

Smores are good but so annoying to eat. That damn graham cracker isn't as gooshy as the rest of it.

Who me? If so, is that a good or a bad thing?

I just got FFXII, and I love it! I pull out Duck Hunt every now-and-again. I love shooting that damned dog. How dare you laugh at me you pixelated jackass!

That is a little creepy in my opinion, but each his own.
That was hardly necessary was it. I mean you don't know anything about me, and yet you see fit to judge me.

Why is that so creepy? We started out as best friends, we dated, things didn't work out but we stayed friends. Simple as that.

Maybe you think you have to cut all your exes loose after you're done with them, but I don't.

Thinking of buying a used laptop from eBay, basically something I can get for $50 or $60 or so. Most of the sellers (all rated 95% or higher) insist that the computers are in top condition... BUT they do not guarantee the batteries, the replacements for which often cost around $80, bringing the overall cost for the computer up to around $150-200.

So, should I buy one of these, or just save up my money for a cheap new laptop? All I need it for is basically taking notes in class, since I type far better and faster than I can write, and because a bluetooth keyboard for my Palm Zire 72 will cost about $150 or more.

It wasn't bad. Just we had not a lot in common.( he was more..well..into being a "gangsta" whereas me, I don't even know the first thing about rap or anything like that.) *laughs* Where about's are you in 12? I just finished finding Dr. Cid's lab. (after Floor 68)- In the Draklor Lab. The one game in Duckhunt that I was never good at (still not) is that stupid Disk-flying thingie.
GAH! annoying. :cathappy:
