Welcome! You're quite welcome to pop in whenever you like and join in the discussion! We are quite friendly.

So any specifics on the fantasy books? I do have, myself, a deep fondness for Tolkien.

I still haven't made it past the Hobbit.

I like Raymond E. Feist a lot...I was introduced to him this summer and have like eaten up his books, especially the riftwar saga.

My dad read The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings to me throughout my childhood, before I was even in school. The Hobbit is more of a children's book, a romp through Middle Earth with comedy and wonder, while LotR is more serious. But if you like Feist, you really should give LotR a whirl.

Mr. Feist is a great writer as well, and while I didn't get to read the Riftwar Saga, I read several of his other books. I will say that Midkemia swept me away for quite a while.

Interesting. Yeah, the character of Nick is a really flawed character, torn between wanting to become human, protecting the people he cares about, and keeping secret his vampirism.

Then there's Lucien de LaCroix, who is Nick's master/creator, but to whom Nick doesn't have to obey. He's articulate, passionate, intelligent, and somewhat evil, although he's more as if he was a caring father trying to help his son see what he views as the truth.
yes since vampires look human, and were human, they always have that personal struggle between their human and non-human self going on.

If you are so inclined, you should download the first episode and give it a whirl.

I actually came across the LOTR books on my mothers bookshelf in the sixth grade, before the movies were made. And I read them and liked them, but i didn't know there was such a huge following, it surprised me. The movies though, I just can't get into them.

yeah i love Midkemia, I can say that the lives of the characters in the land just made me fall in love and I was so sad that they had to grow up, even in one book I felt like I lost some of my best friends to love and things like that, but with like Arutha's sons and things like that I feel like I'm able to grow with them as well.

I love that feeling, I had to stop reading one of the books because I was sooo scared of what was going to happen and the "Evil" scared me!..

I really enjoyed the movies myself; they're a fantastic rendition of the novels, although not quite as expansive due to, of course, time constraints. I still think I would have made a great Sam, but oh well.

Now that Peter Jackson has almost finished a part of his dispute with New Line over profits, perhaps he can get to making The Hobbit?

Haha. Yeah, he does have this fondness for bloodlines and great characters within those same lines. He has this great sense of the world and people, and it makes his characters jump off the page.

I love that fact, I like that they jump off the page and I feel like I need to hug them sometimes or go travel through time to save them.

I like the basis of how it started as well, him and his friends hatin D&D then they wanted some history and he started writing.

And LoTR, I bought when the first movie came out or so, still haven't read them but the hobbit was ok i just never seemed to be able to keep moving through it. I just never have time either. Movie wise, I fell asleep during the first, loved the 2nd.

Yeah, the first LotR novel (and movie) is a little slow to get off the ground, but it whisks you away to a wonderful world all its own. I think it is probably my favorite set of movies besides my few other favorites, like Star Wars, The Princess Bride, and The Transformers.

Ah. Good-looking photo, actually. Myself, I have kinda large, sharp canines. But really, to me, you don't look too different from anyone else. But I'm not really into the whole "vampire" thing either.

I won't say I didn't prefer the books, but the movies were very good. The books, however, are magical in a way that transcends the movies.

(Re: The movie FEAST)

Rei! Sweety! That movie is funny as all HELL! I actually bought it. But we all know what a fan of campy horror I am.

Jason Mewes gets his face ripped off...
Henry Rollins plays a motovational speaker....
The movie is established like a video game with character introductions...
No one is NOT a potential victim.....

and to cap it off... demonic money shot...

How can you not want to see this?
