Question, doesn't anyone else find it really attractive to watch the opposite sex strip done to their skivvies and re-build a computer? And it's the fact that they are re-building a computer that really turns you on?

You know, I've never had a girl do that for me, but I'd sure like to! :D

What we need is a Geek with the physical properties of a jock BUT the mental and intelligent properties of a geek!

WE WILL RULE THE WORLD! :D

PSA:
Ladies and Gentlemen all around our world today Geeks are being mistaken for nerds. These days the high level of beatings on Geeks due to mistaken classification is high. One must always be on guard to prevent misclassification of our members. In order to make it easier for our members to be classified by others we have handed out the attached cheat card. Hand it out to the local bullies and prevent acidental beatings!

-Nerds: Put plainly nerds are losers, even amongst geeks. Nerds are dirty, unkept, and generaly do not have any friends

Nerd example:

-Geeks: Are successful, clean, well groomed, and while they may not have many friends outside of Geek circles they do have several (or more) friends within their circle. The VAST majority of Geeks are miss clasifyed as "nerds"

Sorry, I'm bored...

Yes, I am full aware of how old this position is for you but, if anything you've got it backwards, but frankly I would say they are just synonyms.
A Geek is : A carnival performer who performs sensationally morbid or disgusting acts, as biting off the head of a live chicken; a person who is single-minded or accomplished in scientific or technical pursuits but is felt to be socially inept; a peculiar or otherwise dislikable person, esp. one who is perceived to be overly intellectual; alternatively a computer expert or enthusiast (a term of pride as self-reference, but often considered offensive when used by outsiders.); or in its oldest and purest sense a person regarded as foolish, inept, or clumsy. Coming from the Scotish 'geck' meaning 'fool' probably form the Dutch 'gek' meaning 'mad,' 'wild man,' or 'drunkard.'

A Nerd is : [mainstream slang] Pejorative applied to anyone with an above-average IQ and few gifts at small talk and ordinary social rituals; [jargon] Term of praise applied (in conscious ironic reference to the former sense) to someone who knows what's really important and interesting and doesn't care to be distracted by trivial chatter and silly status games: a stupid, irritating, ineffectual, or unattractive person; an intelligent but single-minded person obsessed with a nonsocial hobby or pursuit: a computer nerd. The word nerd, undefined but illustrated, first appeared in 1950 in Dr. Seuss's If I Ran the Zoo: "And then, just to show them, I'll sail to Ka-Troo And Bring Back an It-Kutch a Preep and a Proo A Nerkle a Nerd and a Seersucker, too!" (The nerd is a small humanoid creature looking comically angry, like a thin, cross Chester A. Arthur.)

Philology for the win baby.

Frankly trying to make them different just reeks of an unsustained need to be valued by making a secondary class beneath a class you might be considering yourself a part of, I say be happy with your ass regardless anyone else above or below and do not worry about betters and lessers.

remember it was your choice

*grins* I'd let Arucard suck my blood any day. If only I was Seras Victoria or Sir Integra.....

Maybe Integra, considering she's Arucard's master and all... I'd make that immortal vampire do so many naughty naughty things.....

*shakes head* I mean, err... um...

Oh yeah!

For Chronie:

Remember when we were watching Ah! My Goddess a while back and you wanted to make the Goddesses Heroclix? I someone who did that. It's like someone was reading our minds- weird....

For some odd reason he didn't make one of Urd or Peorth... or any of the Demons...

I just tend to think of geeks as being general-purpose nerds. Sure, we obsess over nerdy things (in my case, photography), but we also stick our fingers into other pies (I also like writing, computers, cooking, and science fiction) and may be more socially outgoing in general. A nerd, meanwhile (in my mind's eye), is a lot more focused on their thing, perhaps even better at it than an equivilant geek.

That said, yeah, the definitions are entirely regional at best, and purely subjective at worst.

Soudesuka!

Here here! Fully agreed, Bully! For instance my corner of the Deep, Deeep, DEEP, South, a Geek would be a person obsessed with a particular subject area to the irrational exclusion of other important knowledges, while a Nerd would be a person possing a wide and deep knowledge of various subjects to a degree significantly greater than the average member of his society. Quite the mirror of your region, no?

I dunno, I don't exactly find photography nerdy. If you were obsessed with building your own technologically advanced super camera, sure that'd be pretty nerdy. Photography is an art form. Artist doesn't always instantly equate to nerd, just usually eccentric :D

There is actually quite a bit to be nerdy about on the mechanical side of photography, particularly if you're into optics, but yes, I can see what you mean. :D

Yes, the definitions are quite subjective, either regionally, or even sometimes within social groupings. The regional definitions for my locality is that nerds are the stereotypical, hyper-neurotic, uber-OCD, pasty basement dweller, with no social skills to speak of, and usually posessing a vast amount of knowledge, esp. on their speciality. Geeks, on the other hand, are generally vastly more socially able (generally), but otherwise posess many of the same interests as nerds, however with far fewer neurotic tendencies. Geeks tend to be more generalized than nerds, too.

Incidentally, byt these definitions I'm a geek, and mostly socialize with geeks, though I do have aquaintences that are nerds.
