~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I remember getting ready to go to the gym when the
first plane crashed into one of the Towers......I remember
at the gym when both Towers collapsed and we were all
watching it on the tv while on the Elliptical trainer, and I
recall letting out this big scream..........I remember racing
home right after and crying......only to have to go to
work for the 3-9pm shift at my job, and to find that CNN
was turned on......
As soon as I got home after the gym I frantically called
some friends who I know that work and/or live in the city
and was unable to get thru on the phones.........but
sent emails .......luckily those friends did not work in
the WTC.....but they were okay.........
Such a beautiful blue sunny day that Tuesday last year
turned into smoky tears.........I remember getting home
from work later that night and I cried.......and called up
friends....and cried some more......
That Friday 9/14 I recall was the "day of rememberance".....
it was a cloudy, rainy day......I remember saying that
"the world was crying".........(fuck, my eyes are welling
up already!) ..........I cried when watching the service
being broadcast from Washington DC........
I remember as a child, whenever me and the family
would drive to JFK to leave for a trip, my mom would
point out the skyline......I will never, ever forget that.
And when walking thru downtown to catch the Staten
Island ferry when I was in college.....passing the area
where the Towers are..........a sight to behold.
I saw Ground Zero for the first time, on my 28th birthday
back in May. I was with a good friend of mine, and one
of the things I wanted to do was to get down to Ground
Zero. It was weird, scary, and very very sad all at the
same time. Seeing the different pictures and memorials
up was real sad and I started crying on the sidewalk. I
could not believe that "there's no more" "I can't believe
they aren't there".......(I'm babbling please forgive me)....
However, I am glad that I got to Ground Zero when I
did......and I know a lot of people, including some good
friends of mine, will not go down there, either too many
memories or too upsetting, and that is understandable.
Last week here in CT, there was a state memorial set
up in honor of CT residents who died in the tragedy,
and the memorial is at Sherwood Island State Park in
Westport........
On a lighter note, I want to take the time to say thank you
to all of you.........for being good friends........for being
there.........
United we stand.......together.......![]()
eyes are glued to the TV today for the 9/11 memorial
to the fallen victims!
This morning the Waterbury Republican had some of the
victim's names on the front page. There on the cover
was Evan Gillette my nieghbor's bother. It is still hard
to believe that we shared a Christmas party December,
2000. Now he's been removed but not forgotten. You
would think with Vet Nam and losing close friends that
it would become easier! But, it never is.......![]()
Well, hope you have a great evening at work.....![]()
Someone recognize the importance? Well, only one person commented on my posting of peace in this thread, and isnt that what this world should be about peace???? and where does peace begin? with US, each individual. Making peace and finding common ground. If it can be AMAZING what this country is like today, UNITED at least one day, to put down religious, ethnic and racial differences, to come together, why cant it continue? If "we" have become divided because of some misunderstandings...why cant we re-unite? UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL....tigerjen said:
sueanninct said:Good evening, everyone. My plan was to post when I got home from work, after a day of reflecting. But I came home to discover that we had lost power. We just got it back 20 minutes ago.
It's been a very long day, and a difficult one. My uncle saw things from a distance a year ago. He works in Washington, DC, close to the pentagon. He was walking out of his building when he saw a plane flying by, close to the ground. He immediately ran inside and called my aunt to tell her he was ok, figuring there would be a story on the news about a plane crash. It wasn't until an hour or so later that he found out the plane he saw had hit the pentagon.
I am very fortunate not to have lost anyone on that day, and I thank God for it every day since. My heart goes out to everyone today.
I received this poem at work. I don't know who wrote it, but I wanted to share it.
One
As the soot and dirt and ash rained down,
we became one color.
As we carried each other down the stairs of the burning building,
we became one class.
As we lit candle of waiting and hope,
we became one generation.
As the firefighters and police officers fought their way into the inferno, we became one gender.
As we fell to our knees in prayer for strength,
we became one faith.
As we whispered or shouted words of encouragement,
we spoke one language.
As we gave our blood in lines a mile long,
we became one body.
As we mourned together the great loss,
we became one family.
As we cried tears of grief and loss,
we became one soul.
As we retell with pride of the sacrifice of heroes,
we become one people.
We are:
One color
One class
One generation
One gender
One faith
One language
One body
One family
One soul
One people
We are The Power of One.
We are United.
We are America.
