New Poetry Recommendations

Tooosday Reviews

Hello Poets, good morning to you all!

Ten poems on the New Poems page and I see a couple new poets, Nostalgy_Prince and Nolan. Go take a looksy, make them feel welcome and while your at it, comment and vote on other poems as well.

Well, that's it folks for the New Poems, but I'd like to do a little Spinner on an illustrated poems. I spun a several times and kept landing on my poems (you know you've done a lot of poems if that happens!), but I did eventually catch a poem by Lauren. I like this illustrated. The poet merges the art with the text, creating a nightscape and a sense of movement too.

Reviewing poems here on Literotica is an interesting experience. Sometimes you find a gem of a poem to read. More often there is, to put it charitably, less interesting work to read.

Sometimes, since as a sincere and diligent reviewer (cough), I read every last line of every last poem, I find some little thing in a poem I normally would have drifted after the first two lines that gives me a little jolt.

So it is today. Here's some suggestions:

  • pcsocake is a new poet whose work I find interesting. Her invitation to self: 2 is an elegantly formed erotic poem that shows style and a capacity for reflection. Somewhat prosaic, and featuring more semicolons than I've seen in a month, but a good and interesting effort. Take a look and form your own opinion.
  • I want to mention 06' Soldier of Life by midnightj in particular for one line:
    Abuse, hate,
    Fear.

    That tares the heart,
When the poet and teacher Bill Knott finds a particularly good line in one of his students' poems, he offers the author five bucks to steal it from them. MJ, I offer $10 for "tares the heart." Man, that's a good line.
  • The scarily named Sex&Death has posted a number of very interesting poems since becoming active here on the Poetry Forum. Today S&D favors us with another two really interesting poems. These Hands That Kiss Me is a vivid little slice of life piece, and Neverwords is a kind of tongue-twisty fairytale narrative. Both are very good. Read them.
  • I am not a form poet, unless "bad form" counts. But I am continually amazed at the versatility of the hoary old sonnet, when constructed by some of our really talented sonneteers, among whom Lauren Hynde is surely one of the most talented. Ms. Hynde's Drawing Love is quite marvelous. So good, in fact, you aren't even aware you're reading a sonnet.
Well, I have to get back to work, so I'd better stop yakking. There were only ten new poems today, and all were interesting reads. Go read, go vote, go comment, y'all.

Hi All :)

I did not forget the new poems, I had unexpected company all day and now that they are gone, I can get to the new poems. Sorry for the delay.

Neuralgia
by, Maggot420.

I liked the story behind this, but the lack of end punction felt awkward, perhaps intended, Im not sure. It feels like its written in iambic pentameter, has an interesting rhythm. Worth a read :)

beginning again,
sophia jane.

Someone left the PC, "tumultuous." I agree. This has some good descriptions but the line breaks are questionable and threw my thought process off as I read. It is partially punctuated, lending to the tumultuous feel. I think this needs some work, but overall very good at getting the point across. :rose:

The End of MIss Whadjadoo Part 6by, hippiedude.

Hippiedude...I like your story/poems, but this one feels like two for one :). I was with you up until you switched to your uncle and while I see the relevance of uncle to Miss Whadjadoo, you almost abandoned her as the point of the poem. I still enjoyed reading it though, as I enjoyed the previous in the series :)

~~

well, that is it for me today. There were only 10 submissions and I may not have included one that someone feels should be mentioned. So feel free to mention away. as always, read vote comment when you feel the urge. and have a wonderful evening. Thanks to all the poets who took the time to share your work.

Tuesday poem mentions

Good morning Poets. Just a handful of poems hit the New Poems page so I'm going to mention them all. If I didn't mention a poem here, it's because I really did miss it. There is a distinct theme today of the illustrated, non-erotic and erotic poems that posted. The keywords are: submission, sadness, suicide and addiction.

Quite a few new poets today shared the fore mentioned theme as did Tralish with bdsm in 'A Good Night' and 'The Agony of Time Held'. SensualMaitre followed with the same sub-genre of poetry with 'Submission'. ragingturmoil's 'Desire' and 'Dark Goddess' could also fall under the same dark feel. Still more new poets to mention, MyNecroticSnail and Sebastian9.

Topping off the list is Illustrated, my favorite genre of Literotica poetry. There were several poems, but I think 4degrees' poem was the best of the day, blew with its hard-edged, raw subject matter that is intensified by the art with words.

Next is lindiana's Games, which its topic matter is gambling and the whimsical art nicely juxtaposes the words.

My Erotic Trail gives us SnapDragon part III and IV, continuation of his story series, this time in illustrated form.

She's let go by RedHairedandFriendly's illustrates sadness and defeat. Goldeniangel gives us two, 'Mother Nature' and 'Trash'. Jami by Decayed Angel tops off the both the New Poems page with a must see.

-- Okay folks, that's it for my mentions today. Check em out for yourself and if you like what you see, give a the poet a holla' back.

There are thirteen new poems up today. I'm feeling kind of trippy this morning and, correspondingly, find myself attracted to a pair of trippy poems in today's stack:

  • It's been some time, I think, since a new poem was flagged with the little green 'E'. Lauren Hynde's hip prose poem Greener Than Blue-Green Blues snags the elusive little fella, though—and quite deservedly so. A surrealistic little Milesian (definitely not Miesian) riff. Very cool.
There are, of course, several other poems well worth your read, your vote, your comment. Have at 'em, people.

Also, let me congratulate Sara Crewe and 4degrees for completing the 30/30 challenge.

Perseverance—it's a beautiful thing.

Thanks, Tz. :)

And let me add one more poem to today's recommendations, vampiredust's London/Chernobyl, which is as eloquent as it is chilling.

New Poems

Today brings 19 new poems. Last week I mentioned a few, those I enjoyed reading and offered a few comments ( which I considered kind and supposedly helpful and I wont make that mistake again). Sorry for offending anyone by making those comments. I realize this is a porn site and that in itself says all needing to be said.

~ the first one up grabbed an E.
I liked it. Maybe you will too.

what i always try to avoid... by, sandd_bound.

~next up

Neonurotic taking a trip down his own Fight Club memory lane.

I loved this for my own reasons, thats all I need:) I would say it is the best of the day by far.

Its a good one, especially if you saw the movie, and understand the movie. Good work, neo-baby

~well guys, that is it for me. I see one other has already received it's H from where, I have no clue... congrats.

Read, comment, vote, recommend if you feel I left something mahvelous out.

and from yesterday, Lauren, what is your poem about? I feel like I accidentally mixed in some psilocybin with my portabello sauce...and that is upsetting to me.. I guess its the jazz influence lost on me, I havent a clue there either...

:rose:

well, CHEEZWHIZ!, I left something mahvelous out...

Method To The Madness by Liar.

Beautifully sentimental poetry, Liar style. He always has something precious in mind. Okay, so its a tie between Fight Club and Method to the Madness.

The Same Difference~ Every living creature on this planet is the same.,.
We have life! Yet every creature is different...

Every living creature has the same destiny...Death!
Yet we will all die differently.

Every creature will hunger and thirst
But for different things.

We are all bound to this Earth...
But our ties are different.

We are all like the buds of a rose bush.
We will all bloom at different times.

The rose has its beauty that we wish to see,
but if we get pricked do we not bleed?

But the one thing we will all do the same?
see this world ...differently!

Tuesday mentions

Good morning Poets. I hope your day is a good one. There are but a few new poems today so I think everyone can spare the time to read them and vote, what not.

A couple from RhymeFairy, Pleasure ~ and Wanna Play?. I like the latter of the two, it's strong erotica, but written with subtlety.

Next, is one from Alessia Brio, false pretenses. This a great ending for a poem:
"... we leave
only the shell of past pretenses
and the faint hope that our
hours will bleed no more"
My Erotic Trail's, Turned On! made me snigger this morning. I really like humor in sex and this poem delivers that.

- - Well, that's it folks. Enjoy your day....I know I will mine since it's been sunny in Seattle two days in a row. Yes, SUN!

Also, there is a great fucking poem that's topping off the list today.

Switch by neonurotic is, in my arrogant opinion, the epitome of 'erotic poetry'.

I might be biased, but it is a great write nonetheless.

Wednesday, 2006.04.12

Morning, all.

There are an even twenty new poems today, with the usual mixture of erotic and non and of poets less or more familiar.

  • Among the newer poets who have work up today, I found SunrockSin the most interesting. His The Deep Purple Smoke Over Lake Geneva evokes a sense of nostalgia or regret and features some interesting language.

'Course now I have that damn guitar riff in my head and it won't go away.

Interesting new author. Check him out.
  • Speaking of riffs, there are two new poems today from 4degrees, whose work always makes me think of someone coked up on pentothal and caffeine doing stream-of-consciousness word riffs at some open mic poetry event. Kind of the poetry equivalent of the guitar solo.

Anyway. Both flagrant candy and unsolicted scansion rock. Read them.
  • The mysterious dorksicle drops by with one of her wry little observations on life: the worst kind of famous. Her work is always interesting and usually funny. This is no exception. Excellent little poem.
  • I seem to recall Liar saying a while back that he didn't feel like writing poetry. Apparently he's gotten over that. He also has two new poems today. Prelude to a Kneeling is a tasty erotic piece and well worth a read. Cue April, however, is really really good. My pick of the day. Go read.
And while you're at it, read 'n vote 'n comment on our other poems today.

Have a nice Wednesday, y'all.

Thursday forgotten

I have been so busy, it slipped my mind until about 2 last night. I gat started reading and couldnt finish, much less start this. I apologize. And will now turn it back to Rybka if he is feekling any better. I am on the brink of a move and the stress is about more than I can take without having to come into LIt and see the bickering that is going on among so many people. It is disheartening and sad that this is not a friendly fun place like it used to be. I hope it gets better, saner, kinder... for many reasons...

Two from Friday you don't want to miss:

Bolero by recklesschild. This poem deftly avoids sentimentality as it explores a popular coffeeshop topic: kids these days. Tell me you haven't said it!

And if your hunger for poetry runs salacious, try a bit of Honey from neonurotic. It's sure to make you lick your lips!

Now don't make me come over there and lick them for you.

Suggestion: New poets may need more direction to find this thread than the basic comment: "mentioned on today's review*"

I used to do the link to here in my comment on the poem or I would send feedback and say something like:

Your poem has been recommended in the New Poems Review thread on Literotica's Poetry Feedback and Discussion Forum. Click on Forum at the bottom of the page your poem appears on to go to the bulletin boards and view the comment.

Hope this helps. :)
