I'm working on this story idea set in the far future where humanity has moved out into the cosmos.

One planet is owned by corporations and it is the survival of the fittest. The planet is called Xeromos Prime.

One mermaid is working for a rich family and is slave. She has always been a slave but she stumbles upon evidence to suggest that all is not what it seems.

The twist in the story is that she was once a prominent politician on the planet but was turned into a mermaid against her will and given false memories.

Anyone have any ideas for the story?

Not specifically but if you want to see a Visual Novel that plays with similar themes but very different plot: might I suggest Athanasy? I won’t spoil but one of the main branches is you being forcibly transformed and made to serve after you asked too many questions

You can rarely go wrong with world building. It's what makes what would be implausible in our world, every day in yours. But the danger as a writer is that these places get bigger. Like Stephen King's Mid-World. So, whatever you do, be prepared to do more.
