Yeah, it is an issue all over, isn't it? I generally find these days that people, especially bosses, supervisors, and employers, have forgotten all about the human aspect of things. Even simple things, like how a kind word, or something as simple and financially inconsequential in the long run as a thank you note or paying for the holiday pary, will go a long way.
I think it's a problem from the top to the bottom, and as you go down the food chain, there's always someone shitting on you from above, so it's that much harder to stand up and treat the people below you decently yourself.
It's like everyone is so freaked about about where the next 50 cents is coming from that they've forgotten that maybe if they relaxed and looked at the horizon instead of an hour from now, that 50 cents might be $2 instead, just because everyone liked where they were and wanted to do a good job just for the sake of it.
But maybe I am living in an Ozzie and Harriet fantasy land.

Work is a "Four" letter word. but I get on here and chat with a "Special Lady" from work.. it's a Beautiful thing...lol and I LOVE MY JOB.....

truly, how does one apply for a position of "Special Lady at Work?" I work in a predominantly female business....i think everyone i work with would consider herself to be "special". But I actually have to work--i don't get to use the computer for fun things! oh well, but the week is over!
What i hate is that I work two jobs and mostly my second job goes to taxes. That is just wrong! I vote that you shouldn't have to pay taxes on a second job. The american dream is a lie. It just means owing more to the government.

I realize this is as much a fantasy as anything else on Lit, but wouldn't it be nice if our elected representatives came to grips with this issue and actually did something about it?
My pet peeve: the waste and redundancy created by the absurd number of municipalities in our state. I can't remember the exact number but I think it's between 550 and 600 local governments. Think of the tax dollars needed to support all those town halls, school districts, town clerks and police, fire, sanitation and public works departments.
From my windows I can literally see four municipalities. You could walk across each in (literally) minutes). All four in about an hour. Is this really necessary? Of course not. But everyone wants to control their zoning, and protect their community identity (not to mention, for some, not everyone, but for some, increase the kick-back potential), so no township, borough or city is ever going to merge with another to achieve cost efficiencies... and lower taxes.
Unless they're forced to. Wouldn't it be nice to see our state government come forth and say, "Look, we understand where you're all coming from, but this is absurd, and for the greater good of all of us, we have to force this issue."
Otherwise, this state is going to collapse of its own weight some day.
I don't make a huge living, but I am fortunate enough that one job takes care of me. I am also lucky that I don't have a family or kids, otherwise I'd be living in a hovel. I honestly don't understand how folks with families survive, even with two or more jobs in the family.
