Old School Musicianship… Rock and Roll.. Jazz… Blues… Big Band even…

A little cross over from one of my other passions (movies)…

From the proper movie “The Italian Job”

Okay, that isn’t fair, I actually like most of the actors in the remake, and there is only one guy who I f-ing despise in the remake… but I do think the original, is so fun! 🥰🥰🥰🥰

Matt Monro - On Days Like These

Can't be as bad as Leonardo DiCaprio, OMG I have cockroaches crawling over my skin while typing this.

So - Professor of Rock was doing his usual set up - which I find maddening because I just want to get straight to the meat.

But in all fairness, he is pretty awesome and totally owns Casey Kasem's title (in my opinion).

In this video, as he is going on I suddenly realize he must be talking about Faith No More! I bought this on CD back when it was new - and loved it. I had given up on radio as being stuffed full of trash and happily, this caught my ear. And it is.... EPIC!

Faith No More - Epic

And I have to give credit to the man - he reminded me of this epic piece, and does a masterful job of telling the whole story... he really is quite awesome (I'm just quite impatient).

OMG! The Midnight Special!!! So much goodness there!!!

And back in the day, it was actually simulcast! You could watch it on TV, and tune in on your FM stereo to hear it through your stereo (not through the mono TV signal)... total greatness, back in the 70's. ♥️ ♥️ ♥️

I love professor of Rock too! Like you, just get to the meat! . And yea we get the whole zenny eye wear😂. After his videos I listen to the songs and understand the artists differently.

The Bash - Dixie Dregs
Based on 'The Wabash Cannonball' - a superb example of musicianship.
Thank you for posting that! Awesome musicianship!

Please allow me to submit... my own favorite version of The Wabash Cannonball...
Jerry Reed - The Wabash Cannonball

Jerry did different arrangements of stuff he did all the time... this is the only time I heard this arrangement, which I absolutely love.

"Don't out loud me!" Jerry was ... so cool!

Count Basie - April In Paris

I have to admit the first time I heard this was in the film "Blazing Saddles", which was my inspiration for posting it, as the movie premiered 50 years ago today, on February 7, 1974. Hard to believe it's been that long and that I was around when it came out.

On the song, it's cool when, at the seeming end, you hear Basie say "One more time", and replay the chorus, and then when they finish again, he says "Let's try it one more, once." I like things like that in recordings. Not sure if they do that sort of thing anymore.
